The past year has been a bit of a challenge for the board but we pulled thru with flying colors. We had a great Lasting Impressions show, lots of great demos, a ton of great food, seriously good company, beautiful art displays around town, good fundraisers and most of all we have a website that's up and running. I have enjoyed my time on the board but am definitely looking forward to sitting back and enjoying the meetings and not being in charge of anything except finishing my own meal!!! I would like to thank all of the board members and committee members and the general membership that also volunteered their time, worked hard to get the job done and helped make our guild awesome. As usual we will be closing out the year with our Christmas celebration and optional gift exchange. The guild will be supplying the main course (meat) for the luncheon and we ask that you bring a side dish, dessert, or something to drink. You are welcome to participate in the gift exchange by bringing a wrapped gift, around $20 in value, that says something about you. This is a lovely time to mingle with members old and new and celebrate the holiday season. Hope to see you there! Sincerely, Gail Graham, Outgoing Grand Poobah

Hello fellow CLAG artists, Once again the year is coming to a close and I wonder how it goes so fast.

- CLAG MEETING - WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 11th ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY POTLUCK AND $20 GIFT EXCHANGE

~Tye Preston Art Display~

Please contact me: 210 842-6695. Email [email protected] Thanks

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I can’t believe it is that time of year. Where did the year go? Thanks to everyone who displayed their at the library. We have some amazing artists. At the January meeting we will be changing the art in the cases and on the walls. The cases have enough artists but I still need artists for the walls. Please email me if you are interested. The art will only be on display three months as the art students from Canyon Lake H.S. will show their art for a month in the spring.

I am stepping down as library coordinator and I am very pleased to say we have two individuals who will take over coordination of the cases. Thanks you both Judy Cobb and Jean Whileyman. A coordinator or two are still needed for the walls. The following is brief description of what needs to be done. 1. Provide a sign up sheet at our meeting and remind people to sign up. 2. I call everyone a couple of weeks before the art is to be changed as a reminder. 3. Day of: the artists are responsible for their own art, taking down and putting up. I do help if needed. 4. The artists complete their inventory sheets, give to you, you turn in the sheets to the library. The art on the walls is changed three times a year, except when the high school students show theirs. The display were changed quarterly and can be changed back if that is more convenient. I will be there in January to help with change. Please contact me if you have any questions. With two it shouldn’t be too hard.

Judy Cobb and Jean Whileyman have assumed responsibility for the Artist Display Cases in the Library.  In order to best manage the use of these cases, we need to know how many CLAG members are interested in displaying their artwork there.  Once we have that information, we will send another email with more details to these members.  PLEASE RESPOND to [email protected].  If we receive no response from you, we will assume no interest and no further communications will be sent to you.  Thanks!

Turkey Don’t Have Webbed Feet

His hand was held behind his back and a smile broke across a tanned face as he came in from the sun. She looked at him and her eyes revealed the questions in her voice. “Hi Sugar! Where have you been? What are you up to?” He held out a small brown paper bag to her. It was gathered tightly at the top. “Here Hon. Here’s our thanksgiving turkey.” She carefully opened the bag. Inside was a small ball of yellow fluff, with pink webbed feet twice the body size. A continuous peeping sound was made in protest as the tiny bird was brought from its protective packaging.

“Why Dale, this can’t be our thanksgiving turkey.” Turkey don’t have webbed feet.” Jacqui’s grandmother had raised turkeys on their property in Pennsylvania and she knew without a doubt this was not a turkey. “Well the sign at the feed store said “Turkey” and I thought it was a turkey.”, said Dale in disgust. Jacqui loved the presents he brought as surprises, like the roses and plants and the porch swing which they shared in the cool evenings, but still, this present had to be correctly identified. The beak was not hooked like a turkey, but pink and flat, and the large pink feet were definitely webbed. So they both went back to the feed store.

The man at the store laughed and apologized for the confusion explaining that he had sold all the turkeys and put the other birds in the pen marked “Turkey”. So the “Turkey with the webbed feet” became known as “Alexandria Goslonof” the Christmas Goose.

She was a ball of yellow fluff with light brown shading and her eyes were baby blue like a new born child, rimmed with a delicate pink shading. Her legs were long for her body and her feet were oversized, pink and fully webbed. She soon followed her new surrogate “Mother Goose” and constantly peeped in distress whenever she lost sight of her “Mother” for even a moment. As soon as she saw her, she lowered her head and stretched her long neck low and forward, launching into a full run, peeping all the while. Hence her informal name became “Peepers”. Life was pleasant as she grew up.

She had a wonderful swimming pool to play in while “Mother Goose” sunned herself in the yard. She was still too little to be left alone and had a small upturned bucket on which to stand when she got tired of swimming. “Mother Goose” still had to take her in and out of the pool for she was not tall enough to climb out and jump to the ground.

“Grand Mother Goose” would come to visit and was always taking pictures of her. She liked to call “Peepers” over to her by her full name, “Alexandria Goslonof”. She’d lean down and fold her arms around the fluffy baby goose, talk softly while telling her how sweet she was. She held her close and kept her warm. However, “Mother Goose” was “Peepers” favorite because she would lift her up on her lap and sit in the big wooden swing on the back porch and sing to her. “Peepers” would rub her head on her Mother’s neck and arms and pick at the hairs on her head.

So the goose, known first as “Alexandria Goslonof” and finally as “Peepers”, did not become a turkey dinner, or even a Christmas Dinner. Instead she grew up beautiful and white with sky blue eyes outlined in orange and with large orange webbed feet. “Grandmother Goose” even painted a picture of her as a grown goose looking back at herself as a baby taking her first steps to being grown up. It is titled, “Here’s Looking at You Kid”. It’s currently in the private collection of “Mother Goose”. Meanwhile, for that Thanksgiving, Jacqui and Dale bought a Butter Ball Turkey from the grocery store for a very delicious dinner. Happy Thanksgiving!
