PREFACE

This bibliography of books, documents, and periodical articles supports the Civil-Military Relations special theme of the U.S. Army War College's curriculum.

Divided into two main parts, the first group of entries focuses on the principle of civilian control over the military in the United States. The second covers civil-military relations in coun- tries other than the United States. To keep the compilation manageable, materials about specific civil-military operations have been omitted. Most of the items have publication dates of 1990 to the present, however a few older titles which appear to be of permanent importance are also listed.

All the items included in this bibliography are readily available in the U.S. Army War College Library. For your convenience, we have added our call numbers at the end of each entry. Please keep in mind that call numbers may vary from library to library. This bibliography is also available on the Internet through our Library's home page (http://carhsle-www.army.mil/library/).
