COVID UPDATE–At this time, Saskatoon Public Schools will be requiring K-8 students to wear

masks in schools. Masks are not required outdoors. Saskatoon Public Schools highly recom-mend masks for students in grades 9-12. Staff will be

masked. Please do not send your student to school if they have symptoms of illness or aren't

feeling well.

Last year we tried online consent

forms and we will continue with

this practice this year. Please fill

these consent forms out right

away when you re-

ceive your separate

email regarding

these so that we can

post things and/or book fieldtrips right away. We will be participating in

fieldtrips and extra curricular opportunities this year.

What’s NEW?

We are launching a new accounting system this year where we can ac-

cept e-transfers and credit cards as well as

the traditional cash and cheques. This will certain-ly be helpful and handy

for many of us.

At Saskatoon Public Schools students are our NUMBER ONE priority. We want

our students to be safe, healthy and excited to return to school and we want

parents and caregivers to feel the same comfort come September. To this

end, our SPS schools will be setting up a STAGGERED START for programs with

larger numbers of students (Montessori and OLCE for us at City Park). Stag-

gered starts will happen for many, but not all, of our students (see below for

specific dates and times). Families will be also be contacted by a teacher

before students join us. Feel free to ask them questions when they call or con-

nect with you.

The rationale for staggered starts are to:

• reacquaint students with school again and to support safe return to school

• provides greater ability to respond to students or parents who may be feeling overwhelmed or anxious

• solidify routines and procedures with students

ECOQUEST students ALL attend beginning Wednesday, September 1st from 8:55-3:20.

ECOQUEST students will lock up bikes at the bike racks at the back of the school and meet Tyler and Reed there to

show them their entrance side door.

FLEX students (Grades 6-12) ALL begin their classes Wednesday, September 1st from 8:45-3:00.

FLEX students will enter through their side entrance to the commons area to formally meet the FLEX teaching staff:

Ms. Fraser, Mr. Lockwood & Ms. Vandersteen, along with their Vice Principal Mr. Peterson, and then proceed to their

classrooms.

MONTESSORI students attend either Wednesday, September 1st OR Thursday, September 2nd and will be greeted

and dismissed from the park behind the school.

Wednesday, September 1st (8:55-3:20)-Families with last names A-L attend

Thursday, September 2nd (8:55-3:20)-Families with last names M-Z attend

Friday, September 3rd ALL students attend (8:55-3:20)

MONTESSORI students will join the Montessori staff on the back field. New students who may not know their teacher

will first go to the table in the middle of the field to meet their Principal, Ms. Jonelle Ulrich, to be guided to their

teacher. Our Lower, Upper and Middle Years teams will be waiting to greet students on the field in the back of the

school and then will head inside using designated entrances. Finalized class lists will be ready to go ASAP. We do not

anticipate many changes from our staggered start days, but sometimes small changes happen. We want to be

thoughtful in forming all of our classroom learning communities. We will be working diligently on the Montessori class

groupings in the first few days of school to ensure we are all settling in.

OLCE students attend either Wednesday, September 1st OR Thursday, September 2nd and will meet online via

ZOOM.

Wednesday, September 1st (8:55-3:30)-Families with last names A-L attend

Thursday, September 2nd (8:55-3:30)-Families with last names M-Z attend

Friday, September 3rd ALL students attend (8:55-3:30)

If you plan to be away please let the school know at 306-683-7550, email City-

[email protected] or use the Messenger APP.

Your City Park Teaching Team can’t wait to see you all in person

and virtually!

On Line Learning Center K-8

We have approximately 500 students

(100 FI and 400 English) enrolled right

now. As an online elementary student,

you are expected to attend school dur-

ing the school hours of 8:55-3:30 (some

is live (via ZOOM) with the whole class,

some is in small groups with classmates, some is one on

one with your teacher, and some is independent). You

will have a minimum of 150 minutes (75 for kindergarten)

per day of live interactive instruction. You will require a

computer (laptop or desktop computer are preferred to

iPads or tablets), internet access, Zoom installed on your

computer and your Learning Management System will be

Google Classroom. General supplies like writing tools,

colouring supplies and paper will be used, but do not go

out and buy a whole bunch of supplies. Your teachers will give you notice when you

might need something and often things are readily available in your home.

For those of you who may have been online with us last year we want to let you know

about a few things that you may find different from this year:

• Our students will have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities over

lunch hour and before and after school at City Park School, for those who live in or

near Saskatoon.

• We will have a smaller staff than last year, but they are exceptional none the less!

• We will continue to accept registrations online HERE for those interested until Septem-

ber 1st. We do continue to have new students enroll with us and are happy to have

them join us.

• Student transitions from in person to online and vice versa will occur at the end of the

first term (January 31st, 2022). Students should commit to, at minimum, the first term

online, or ideally the entire school year.

• Some students will reside in Saskatoon and others may join us from other locations in

Saskatchewan (provided their home school division is consulted).

• We will have some combined grades this year (often referred to as split classes). We

do not see this as a detriment and many of our programs are purposefully grouped

this way already at City Park because of the benefits we find, but it can be something

new for some families.

• Kindergarten, at this time, will be offered in the

morning everyday unless new classrooms open up

due to enrolment increase.

City Park Ecoquest Program

Typically Ecoquest hours are 8:55-3:20 with lunchtime

landing at around 11:45-12:33, however sometimes

learning opportunities present themselves at slightly

different times and therefore it isn’t unusual that these

hours organically change with reasonable warning

to our families and Ecoquesters. Sometimes students

will meet off campus in the morning as well, but

again all involved will be well-informed.

We are hopeful camps and overnight excursions will be back this year and so there will

be times where the hours are extended. Expect this to be an adventure and a very

memorable year for your learner. Also, prepare

for them to become highly independent and

confident citizens.

There is a $200 program fee (plus minimal service

fee) for Ecoquest students. This is payable in the

fall and we are able to accept credit and e-

transfers as well as cash and cheques next year.

If cost is a barrier, please connect either with one

of the teachers or your administrative team. This is kept confidential.

School Supplies and a gear list will be communicated with you from your teachers in an

email to families and again at the Parent Meeting in the fall. We do have supplies to lend

if they are not able to be borrowed or purchased and a partnership with Outer Limits that

help ensure all students can participate. Please find access to a bicycle and U lock as

they are the major mode of transportation for your child for the next year.

City Park School FLEX Program

FLEX hours can seem odd and unusual as each stu-

dent has their own schedule. We provide a blended

learning experience for our athletes, musicians and

artists who train during the school day. Each class is

set up with a Google Classroom and an incredible

staff who allow students to excel in the classroom

and pursue their out-of-school passion. All that said,

when students are not training in their activity we ex-

pect them to attend class in person. Our hours are

8:45-3:00. Our staff are proud to help offer this program to meet the needs of their stu-

dents: Ms. Kayla Fraser, Mr. Dana Lockwood and Ms. Vandersteen are slated as our

teaching team for next year. Next year, FLEX is following a Quarter/Semester Schedule

calendar found in other collegiates in our division, which will allow students to also take

any OLC (Online Learning Centre) courses they may wish to in order to compliment their

in-person FLEX classes. Students will be enrolled in 3 classes each quarter—two will end

at the quarter and one will run for two quarters or one semester. Our quarters line up with

other collegiates, however what makes us different is that we flip flop our classes day to

day so that the same courses are not offered at the same time each day and support

with a blended online classroom for 24/7 access. This helps students not miss the same

subject if they tend to miss either mornings or afternoons due to their training schedule.

Here is what the quarter calendar looks like:

Quarter 1-September 1-November 5

Quarter 2-November 9-January 28 (also end of first-semester class)

Quarter 3-February 1-April 13

Quarter 4-April 25-June 28 (also end of second-semester class)

School Supplies will be communicated to students later in August, but for the most part

consist of a binder, paper, writing tools, and some highlighters. They is no program fee for

FLEX, but some courses do have additional costs and special excursions may as well.

MONTESSORI PROGRAM

Montessori students are to attend classes from 8:55-

3:20 each day. We provide supervision at 8:40 be-

fore school and until 3:35 after school. If you re-

quire supervision outside of those hours, please

contact the Before & After School Program offered

through the Boys and Girls Club. Students cannot

be left unsupervised, however are welcome to en-

joy the playground with a parent or caregiver that is in close proximity.

Montessori students DO NOT bring any school supplies. We purchase

them as a community for the students and provide for them all year

long. We collect a $100 school supply fee (plus possible minimal service

fee) for each Montessori student. This is payable in the fall and we are

able to accept credit and e-transfers as well as cash and cheques next

year. If cost is a barrier, please connect either with one of the teachers

or your administrative team. This is kept confidential.

We also ask that you send indoor shoes for general use and Physical

Education classes. Students also need a water bottle and we ask

that they dress for the weather

each and every day. Your stu-

dent must be prepared to go

outside to learn no matter the

season. We try to get outside for learning as much as pos-

sible (it’s often the best place to learn). Therefore, unless it

is unsafe to be outside we expect the students to be

wearing proper footwear and clothing to be outside. This

includes rain (umbrellas/rain gear), shine (sunscreen/hat),

or cold (winter gear including boots).

We also offer an optional Polar Bear Club in win-

ter for those who want to enjoy winter even in in-

door recess conditions. There are very few bad

weather days—only poor clothing choices in our

opinion. Our location is THE BEST and we take ad-

vantage of our community, the city of Saskatoon,

and the outdoors often!

Ecoquest: 8:55-3:20 (Lunch 11:45-12:33)

FLEX: 8:45-3:00 (Lunch 12:03-12:54)

12:33)

City Park Home & School

This dynamic, positive group is made up of City Park parents (from any and all programs-Online Elementary, FLEX, Ecoquest, and Mon-tessori) who plan fun activities and a few fundraisers to enhance the school experience for our students. This has been invaluable the past few years with such significant budget reductions. Are you interested in getting to know other parents and helping out the school? Perhaps you want to become part of this awesome volunteer group, or wouldn’t mind putting your name forward as either Treasurer or Chair? The whole Home & School team helps the Treasurer, Secretary and Chair fulfill the roles. The outgoing Treasurer and Chair are availa-ble to help with the transition. We already have a Hot Lunch Convenor and Secretary wish-ing to continue in their roles. The following roles are up for grabs: Treasurer (outgoing is still going to be a member, but can't make the meetings)-This individ-ual has signing authority and writes cheques as required. They keep track of the income generated and outgoing financial support they give. They often accept e-tranfers and help the whole parent group by attending and helping at events. Chair (outgoing is unable to continue as they are moving schools for another great program)-This individual checks the Home & School email and mailbox in the school, creates agendas for monthly meetings, facilitates the meeting, helps the whole parent group by attending and helping at events. Some events/activities the Home & School has supported include: Teacher Appreciation

Meals and Snacks (we are a bit spoiled), Fun Lunches, Farm 2 School Veggie Fundraiser,

Winter Greenery Fundraiser, Spring Plant Fundraiser, Paint Party in the Park, Funded projec-

tors in 5 classrooms, Funded Classroom Materials, Support Fieldtrips etc.

City Park SCC (School Community Council)

We are looking to ensure all of the important formal roles on our SCC

are filled and wanted to provide the opportunity for community

members or parents from any program to know what they are and

how to either self-nominate or nominate someone else. Members at

Large are very welcome!! Some events/activities the SCC have sup-

ported include: Welcome events, Math Days, Literacy Events, Arts Education Presentations, Parent

Connection Evenings, Corridor Cafés, Track Days, Marafun, Clubs and much, much more.

Chair-currently is Tanya Gokavi. She is willing to continue in this role, but others are welcome to

offer as well.

Vice-Chair-we are hopeful to have someone step up for this role just in case the Chair isn’t availa-

ble.

Secretary-currently is Janine Muyres. She is willing to continue in this role, but others are welcome

as well.

Treasurer-we are hoping to someone interested in this role for the 2021/22 school year.

*Any positions that are not acclaimed will be voted on at the AGM on September 20th at 7pm.
