This business is an entertainment service falling under the category of the tertiary sector because we will be providing a form of customer service (ie. pop culture) to the youth of our community.

Where Do We Build?

Page 17: Citing A Business Neil Fisher and Dee Kisner Group 1 Human Geography 105-02 Mel Lorentz December, 2004

Zoning•Where is the most convenient area to develop the business?

•What area would best suit our business without creating troubles with surrounding residential homes, interfere with other businesses, and have ample parking space for customers?

According to the Zoning ordinances of Carroll County, an entertainment business would be a part of the general business district. (p.11-1)

Carroll County Department of Planning informed us the general business district includes Carroll County industrial parks and shopping centers.

This helped to narrow our choices to four locations.

Where??

Ex Lowes

1. The Airpark

2. The Ex-PA Farmers Market

3. The Ex-Kmart (next to Office Depot)

4. The Ex-Lowes (now Old Navy)

Page 19: Citing A Business Neil Fisher and Dee Kisner Group 1 Human Geography 105-02 Mel Lorentz December, 2004

ParkingIs there enough parking spaces for customers?

Article 14 of the Zoning Ordinance of Carroll County Manual states “Dance hall, assembly hall,

community center, sports arena, skating rink, theater, auditoriums must have one parking space

for every three persons, based on maximum capacity.” (p. 14-2).

In consideration to the previous businesses at the shopping center locations, there is enough parking for a small entertainment business targeted towards 15 – 24 year olds.

Location Appeal

After our research of • Zoning laws• Parking• Possible nuisance factors for

surrounding businesses and homeswe looked into size of the buildings,

and monthly rent.

Range – How far people are willing to travel to use a service

Because this type of business is found in larger towns or cities we predict customers would come from local villages and hamlets surrounding the town area. As far as the Manchester area in the north, Finksburg in the East, Taylorsville to the south, and Taneytown in the West. A 12-15 mile radius
