All Souls Day Envelopes

We will be fast approaching the Feast of All Saints (November 1) followed by All Souls Day (November 2). Traditionally the Church offers Masses throughout the month of November to pray for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Offering Masses throughout the year for the souls of loved ones is one of the treasured practices of the church. The Church consid-ers the Mass as the greatest possible prayer of intercession insofar as it is the perfect offering of Christ to the Father by making pre-sent the paschal mystery of his death and resurrection. Because of the particular role of the priest as mediator between God and man, acting "in persona Christi" when offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, it is usually considered that special graces may be obtained when he applies the Mass to a particular intention. The faithful generally make an offering, called a stipend, to the priest in order to apply the Mass to a specific intention. By mak-ing this offering, the faithful, by parting with something that is their own, associate themselves more intimately with Christ who offers himself in the sacred Host, and obtain thereby more abun-dant fruits (See Pope Paul VI's letter "Firma in Traditione" of June 13, 1974). Special All Souls envelopes are made available to you in your envelope packet as well as in the pews. Please place all envelopes in the collection basket by Sunday October 31st so that we can prepare the envelopes for placement on the altar for the month of November, remembering your loved ones and praying for their souls.

IMPORTANT PARKING NEWS

Space for parking has been a life long issue for the Newman Center and many of you are fully aware of it. Every year, we put a notice in the bulletin to remind people that double parking and parking in the fire lanes and other unauthorized areas is not

only prohibited and frowned upon, but it also ille-gal and dangerous. With the thousands of people

who come through our doors, we have been blessed that perhaps only once or twice a year there is an emergency where civil service and paramedics

need to visit us. But we certainly do not want to be known for the inhibited treatment of one of our

community members due to the inaccessibility of our building. During the week, we spend many

hours monitoring our parking lot in order to keep traffic flowing and to enable our community to utilize the Center. We make sure that handi-

capped spaces and staff spaces are not abused, and fire lanes and doors are kept clear. We announce

license plates over the intercom and tow cars every week. Moving forward, it appears that we will

have to incorporate these same policies during the weekends. We implore you; please park legally

and safely for everyone concerned here at the New-man Center. There is ample parking on the campus which is completely permissible on weekends that is directly across the street on both sides of us: Lot 46 across North Pleasant and Lot 34 across Mass Ave. Remember; the Newman Center was origi-

nally designed and intended predominantly for foot traffic from university students which is why we

only have 34 available parking spaces. Therefore, please be kind and courteous to those who may be in more need than you for a space, and also do not

be offended if you are asked to park in an adjoining lot because there is no space here. With that, we

want to sincerely thank you for being a part of our community and supporting the mission of Blessed

Cardinal Newman. We certainly couldn't do it without you. Thank you for your cooperation.
