We wait to see the new and greater relationship God has in mind for us in the new heaven and the new earth. I have memories of Dad and especially Cathy which are my constant companions. Some make me sad. Some make me laugh. But the memory on this day brings strong encouragement from two people who journeyed this circle of life as it was intended. They came from God, and they have returned to God, as all of us will do. But the difference in people is in how well we listen and submit to God during the journey of that circle of life. And, oh, how they listened. I have been, and continue to be, blessed with people who show me the way to walk this circle of life to please the One who brought me here and the One to whom I am returning. -Dewayne

Circle of Life

A couple of weeks ago we were in Nashville to see our granddaughter’s, Elsie, in her school’s performance of “The Lion King.” We heard again, the song, “Circle of Life.” It really is a circle in many ways. I was thinking about one of those ways. We come from God and we return to God. Saturday, May 7, would be Cathy’s birthday. She would be 66. But she isn’t. She is no longer bound by time. No longer bound by days, months, seasons and years. No longer troubled by the things of this life. She waits in peaceful rest for the day she lived for all of her life. In March of 2009, Larry, Gary, Keith and I lost our Dad. Our Mom lost her husband. In June of the same year, I lost my wife. Mom lost her husband and I lost my wife for ever, at least in the since of husband and wife as we know it in this life. -Dewayne

From Useless to Useful

John Mark is an interesting character in the Bible. He is mentioned no less than 8 times in the Bible. What I know about him is mostly from the book of Acts. He was a relative of Barnabas. He was the reason why Paul and Barnabas departed ways and went to different locations to establish churches. In Acts13:13, John Mark left the group of missionaries from Antioch, and he returned to Jerusalem. We can speculate as to what caused him to make that choice but the Bible doesn’t say, because it is not important. What is important is that he abandoned the group in the middle of the huge task of evangelizing the Gentile world.

On the second missionary journey in Acts 15, Barnabas wanted to bring John Mark, but Paul was against it. They decided it was better to go on separate teams. Barnabas took John Mark, and Paul took Silas. It wasn’t wrong of Paul to not want to take John Mark. You have limited resources in the mission field. You have to be able to count on the people that join you to help accomplish the mission. Paul didn’t think that John Mark was “that” man. When you know someone and have a close bond with them, you can see their potential. That you understand that they’re going to make mistakes and encouragement is needed in order to flourish. Barnabas saw that in John Mark. Only time will tell what happens. More next week. -David

Giving Your All

Tony Brimingham

If you ever want a life lesson handed to you, just spend a few Sunday nights teaching the Adventure Club. These little ones have life in the palm of their hand. They handle situations in ways that I only wish I could. My prayer is that these little guys will always keep their heart close to Jesus. My prayer is that they will always have the genuineness of love that they show to those around them. This past Sunday night, one of our Adventure Club kids brought a handful of coins. These coins are put into the collection plate and then passed on to Por Los Ninos at the end of the year. We raise an amazing $150, one quarter at a time. As time to pass around the collection plate approached, this little girl noticed that the kid next to her did not have any coins to put into the collection plate. She gave one of her coins to this kid. A few minutes later she noticed another kid with nothing to put into the plate. She gave that kid one of her coins. Throughout class she did this over and over again until she had nothing left to give herself. She had given away all her coins. When prompted about how nice that was to give her coins away, she just smiled, blushed and looked down, not wanting any credit. This little girl had given all that she had so that others could have something of value. I am reminded of the song written in 1865 that goes like this: Jesus paid it all, All to him I owe, Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow. I am so thankful that Jesus was not stingy with His love. I am so thankful that Jesus was not afraid of the sacrifice. I am so thankful that Jesus passed His quarter to me. I am so thankful that Jesus gave His all.
