This year, CKI members will have a chance to participate in CKI Week. It’s our week to shine a light on CKI, our preferred charities and the great work we are doing in our home towns. By participating in CKI Week, clubs will have the opportunity to highlight the impact we make in our communities through CKI's three tenants: Service, Leadership, and Fellowship. In all, more than 13,000 college students will participate. CKI Week is an marketable event that clubs can get excited about. Channel CKI Week to help your club earn publicity, build awareness, and recruit new members! In the Kiwanis family, CKI members perform the most community service hours per member and CKI Week is a chance to highlight this on college campuses and college communities around the world.

Whether it is packaging food, building playgrounds, or working with animals, each of us has a service project that we love. CKI has a diverse group of partnerships that work to address a wide variety of issues. During these days, we challenge you to collaborate with our partnerships so we can continue to be catalysts within our communities. The projects ideas are divided up by partnerships so start planning now and don't forget to take lots of pictures!

SH Hey Key Clubbers! We’re in the same boat! If you’re passionate about the Thirst Project, you’ll love teaming up with CKI to save water for Haiti this year!

Celebrate Kiwanis One Day this year by sharing CKI’s WASH initiative with your Kiwanis Club. Circle K’ers can teach Kiwanians a thing or two about saving the world! The power is in our hands to educate kids in Builders Club on why it is important to wash your hands and how to. Visit your local Builders Club and participate in handwashing demonstrations to show how to properly wash your hands and teach how handwashing with soap can keep you healthy by fighting germs!

01 Want to help save lives this year as your service goal? Then save water! Cut your water down. Each minute you knock off of your shower saves 2 – 2.5 gallons of water

WATER you gonna do to help save water today? Try giving it a rest. While washing your hair or shaving, turn the water off. The same goes for brushing your teeth.

Give the gift of survival by taking only what you need. If you’re pouring a glass of water, fill it only with the amount you plan to drink; if you overestimate, use what’s left to water the plants.

Want to spread awareness for WASH on your campus? Post on mirrors in bathrooms about the importance of clean habits in all nations. It can then be turned into a fundraiser for the project!

Host a Water Walk! Get club members to register for your walk and have other members or community members sponsor them. For the walk, gather Jerrycans and fill them with water. You’ll raise awareness for the lengths that women and children must walk to get clean water, while raising money as well!

02 Host an On-Campus Book Drive

Get started at www.betterworldbooks.com! It’s super easy! Just fill out the sign up for to host a drop box on your campus. Better World Books will send you everything you need! After hosting your book drive, you just have to pack the books and send them back! This is a simple way to support children’s literacy!

Potluck Picnic

Host a potluck at a local park with a playground and invite all the K-Kids and their parents, as well as builders, key club, Kiwanis, and Aktion. Each K-family member (besides the K-Kids and builder’s) can sign up to bring a dish and ask Kiwanis to provide the “cookout” items such as hotdogs and hamburgers, Ask each person could be asked to bring a lightly used book or a dollar to be collected and donated to better world books or one of their affiliates. What a great, easy and relaxing fellowship time. Afterwards, you can work together to sort and package the books for Better World Books.

You don’t have to recreate the wheel. Contact your local soup kitchen or meal service like Meals on Wheels to set up a shift for you and your club members. This is a super easy way to help those facing hunger in your local community!

STUDENTS TEAM UPTO FIGHT HUNGER

Partner with a local food pantry to fight hunger in your local community! Invite your local Builder’s Club or Kiwanis Family Branch to join you as well so they have a chance to learn about hunger disparities and ways they can help fight them. Here are some ideas of what you can do with them:

Your club can celebrate CKI Week today by holding a STUFH the Bus event! STUFH the Bus is an event where a club rents a bus, parks it somewhere on their campus, and stuffs it with food to donate somewhere in their local community. This not only is a great way to fight hunger insecurity, but also raises awareness of the issue to other students on campus. Start by contacting your local or campus transportation authority and ask if you can have a bus “donated” for a particular time period, i.e. (10am-6pm).Once you’ve secured your bus, it’s time to start marketing! Advertise throughout campus and to your local Kiwanis Family Branches. Make sure you let them know the time, date, STUFH’s mission, and how they can be involved. You can also plan broader outreach to the community by leaving fliers with a description of your STUFH the bus event on neighborhood doors. Include the project details and drop off location!

Locate your Local JCI Chapter!

Head to www.jci.cc, type in your zip code, and find the nearest chapter! Then, you can send them an introductory email and invite them to your next club meeting!

It’s super simple!

J U N I O R C H A M B E R I N T E R N A T I O N A L

Get to know the key players in your community! Team up with your local JCI Chapter to plan a speed networking event to get your club members acquainted with local community leaders and young professionals. You can plan this as an after meeting event for either your local JCI chapter or your own CKI club! Don’t forget to bring name tags!

05Call to Aktion: Lead the FightStart a team with your Aktion club to Brave the Shave

Look online for an event near you and sign up to be a team captain for shaving your head! There is also an option to just volunteer at an event rather than shave your head that still allows you to raise money. The online fundraising pages make it easy to share on your social media and raise money. Every member of the team can set their own fundraising goal and anybody with the link to their fundraising page can donate. In-vite your local Aktion Club members to be shavees with you, or even justvolunteers at the event.

for Cancer

Put on an event in your community to raise money for St. Baldrick’s while raising awareness of pediatric cancer! You can host a talent show, bake sale, movie night, breakfast, a pageant, or anything else you can think of. For a talent show or pageant, make sure to reserve space ahead of time. You can send out an invitation to participate or emcee to students and student organizations. You can also have a contest among participants to see who can raise the most money for St. Baldrick’s. Be sure to charge an entry fee to the audience to help raise more money! For a bake sale, movie night, or breakfast, reserve space, and try to get as many sponsorships as you can. Consider approaching local restaurants and businesses to see if they are willing to donate goods or fundsin exchange for an ad at the event. Advertise your event around campus, and charge an entry fee to collect funds for St. Baldrick’s. Be creative with your event! Regardless of what event you do, be sure to hand out flyers, brochures, and/or pamphlets about St. Baldrick’s and pediatric cancer to raise awareness of who the money is going to and why.

Work with your local hospital’s volunteer/event coordinator to plan a fun event for the pediatric cancer patients! Be sure to have a variety of activities. You can play board games, host hands--on crafts, put on a show for them (play instruments, act out skits, etc.), play video games with them, or anything else! When planning your activities, check with the volunteer coordinator to ensure you are meeting hospital guidelines, both in terms of activities and supplies. Also consider hosting leadership development activities for the kids! Make them hands-on and engaging. Some examples include helping them visualize leadership qualities by having them fill out an outline of a person by drawing qualities of a good leader, having them work together to solve riddles, doing scenario simulations, or other activities that allow them to explore their leadership style as a group.

“Big things often have small beginnings”

Get it? Because preemie babies are smaller than normal babies? In any case, this is something that is used as a slogan for MoD, so I thought we would use it in a way to say that small things that you do at meetings (or just general get-togethers) can actually make a big impact.

YOU CAN HOST EVENTS LIKE: “Baby shower”: Have everyone donate a baby item at your club’s meeting. Feel free to invite Kiwanis Members and other Kiwanis Family clubs to do the same.

Get creative! Make fabric flowers to deliver to your NICU. These can really brighten up the days of the families and children.

Make cards and deliver to your local NICU (think outside of the box with events like May Day. Don’t just limit yourself to condolences and typical holidays.) This is an easy meeting activity or after-meeting

Contact your local MoD Representative so that they can come to a meeting. This provides a great educational speaker for a meeting. You might even be able to ask them to host a workshop!
