RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS:
There were a total of fifty (50) respondents included in this study.
Results of the study revealed that for the family; out of the 50 respondents only
19 of them which is equivalent to 38% had families involved in smoking. A small amount
of six (6) respondents which is 12%, had their families knew they were smoking. Ten
(10) of the respondents, which is twenty percent, had this habit of smoking caused by
family problems. Only 9 of them said anyone from family members influenced them to
smoke. Thirteen (13) of them admitted that one from family encouraged them to quit

smoking, while only 6 of the 50 respondents admitted that there was a time that
smoking habit became a big problem to their families.
With regards to friends, the study revealed that 11 of the respondents that is,
22%, had their friends knew they were smokers. Thirteen (13) of them said they spend
time smoking with their friends. Eight (8) of the respondents said their friends influenced
them to smoke. But 15 of the respondents said some of their friends tried to stop them
from smoking. Only two (2) said that they smoke only when their friends told them to do
so. Twelve of them said that smoking had affected their relationships with their
girlfriend/boyfriend.
For academic performance, the results showed that only 7 of them or 14%
admitted that they smoke before attending their morning classes just to be attentive in
the class. Again, seven (7) of them said that smoking boost-up their self-confidence
whenever there are recitations or reporting in class.
Regarding academic performance, 12 of them said smoking is a hindrance to get
better grades in school. Six (6) respondents had experienced skipping classes just to
smoke.
Another six (6) respondents said smoking had affected their daily study habits
while 5 respondents said smoking have a factor in improving their grades in school.
For the self, 5 respondents admitted that they started smoking at the age below
15. Smoking made them addictive as revealed by 7 respondents. But 27 of them which
is equivalent to 54% said they can live a day without smoking. Although 4 said smoking
is good.
Fourteen on one hand said depressions pushed them to smoke while 6 on the
other hand said they save money to buy cigarettes.

Two of them said their common companions when they smoke were member of
the families.
Ten of the respondents said smoking affect their spiritual aspects, but they did
not elaborate. In relationship, fifteen (15) of them said that smoking affect the
relationship.
When it comes to brands, 13 admitted that they smoke the same cigarette brand
always. Only 5 said that they believe that smoking makes you ASTIG in the eyes of
the observer.
But significant number of respondents, which is 17 said that they will stop
smoking if they feel the illnesses brought about by smoking.
Most of the respondents prefer to smoke in private areas which is 38% and in
public areas which is 18% of the respondents.
