2017 FROM OUR PRESIDENT They say time flies when you’re having fun. It’s hard to believe we are heading toward our 28th year. The commitment of so many to The Cincinnati International Wine Festival is truly a labor of love – a shared love of wine, food, our community and of course the non-profit organizations that we support. I am thrilled to report that we have reached a milestone. In fact, as of last year, the total that we have now given back is $5.3 Million. These donations exclusively support local charities in greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Since 1991, we have had terrific success due to all of the amazing people who help with the festival each year. I am very grateful to the wineries and distributors who so generously provide all of the wine, and work countless hours to make these events great. I also want to thank our growing number of sponsors and volunteers. These events would not be possible without their continued support. I am truly humbled by the dedication of our magnificent board of directors and exceptional staff who work tirelessly and always go above and beyond. They are truly inspiring. Our city has been recognized for being one of the greatest food and wine communities in the country. The Cincinnati International Wine Festival is so proud to be a part of this. Our grand tastings, dinners, seminars and auction and luncheon attract visitors from many other cities and states. It’s a terrific, fun-filled week for Cincinnati, and once again, I encourage you to get involved. Come to the Party! Connie Wiles

WINERY DINNERSThe Wine Festival kicked off on Wednesday, March 1 with a special winery dinner at Orchids at the Palm Court, hosted by Honorary Chair Genevieve Janssens of Robert Mondavi Winery. Seventeen of the area’s finest restaurants partnered with wineries from around the globe to host the popular winery dinners. These unique and intimate dining experiences allow guests to learn from winery hosts about each wine as it is paired with delicious cuisine, created by local chefs. This concept adds a new twist to your favorite restaurant that you won’t want to miss!

GRAND TASTINGS The dazzling Grand Ballroom at the Duke Energy Convention Center helped the festival celebrate its 27th year in style. An estimated 5,000 attendees joined Honorary Chair Genevieve Janssens at the Grand Tastings on March 3 and 4. This remarkable two-day event allowed guests the opportunity to taste more than 700 international and domestic wines, sample a variety of delicious foods, and bid on impressive silent auction items. The grand tastings only continue to grow and attract new wine lovers each year.

Enjoy sampling unique wines and food with great friends.

CHARITY AUCTION AND LUNCHEON The excitement for the charity auction and luncheon was bigger than ever before. Auctioneer Dan Greathouse, of Heidelberg Distributing, enthusiastically presided over the live auction. Guests enjoyed fine wines, while bidding on magnificent silent auction items with Co-Chairs Lee Flischel and Kathy Merchant. Chef Todd Kelly created a beautiful lunch menu to compliment distinctive wineries featured at each table in the Hall of Mirrors at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza.

Each table is hosted by a unique winery to pair with the delicious cuisine.

RUSS WILES MEMORIALGOLF TOURNAMENT The breathtaking TPC River’s Bend was home to the 18th annual Russ Wile Memorial Golf Tournament, with Honorary Chair Rick Huberfeld. Foursomes competed at the “tournament like no other” while enjoying delicious cuisine, fine wine, and ice cold beer on the course. The day concluded with a reception overlooking the 18th green along with exciting contest prizes, and fantastic tee gifts to commemorate this special tournament.

Project Peace partners with local hospitals and organizations to meet the needs of Head and Neck Cancer Patients in the Tri-State area. Project Peace has created more than 200 “Peace Paks”, which include items beneficial to patients during treatment not covered by insurance. They work with local patients to provide practical needs such as covering car repair, electric bills or rent payments for families facing hardships due to their treatment. Lastly, they donated two bells to area hospitals for all cancer patients to “ring” at the end of their treatment to signify and celebrate the end of their treatment.

At the inception of the Wine Festival, it was unknown as to how much the organization would grow. It all began in 1991, when $35,506 was granted to a single beneficiary. The Wine Festival has grown tremendously since then! In total, more than $5 million has been donated to 45 charities in the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. This year, we are happy to announce that 36 local charities received a total of $350,000.

The Mission of Project Peace is to promote hope and peace for families affected by head and neck cancer by providing practical services and offering emotional support throughout the diagnosis, treatment and recovery stages to allow families to focus on what is most important –winning the battle against cancer.
