Welcome to Church Web Design

I'm Ken Bradford and I'll be your tour guide for the next few seconds.I will help you understand the importance of a professional church website and show you some very important bits of information peopleshould be able to find there.

I have been helping businesses communicate through a prominent online presence forthe past twelve years. I feel that the online needs of a church are not really that differentfrom any other type of business. Everyone wants to make a good first impression and theywant to attract people to come to their business.

I possess excellent communication and customer service skills which help me communicate with people, present web design ideas, and manage business relationships. My artistic ability, creativity, and eye for materials allow me to understand what works well in particular design projects. New trends are always emerging and I make it a point to stay up-to-date.

So, let's explore church web design just a little.

Rule #1 in Church Web Design

Never assume people feel invited to worship with you.You must tell them.

Church Web Design Must Throw Out the “Welcome” Mat

Most visitors are looking for a vibrant community that looks welcoming and is a place where they feel they will fit in.

The “Home” page of your church website must clearly make people feel welcome.

Church Web Design Must Tell Visitors What to Expect

● Dates & times of services● Is nursery care available?● Do children attend a different service?● How long is the service?● What type of music do you use?● How should visitors dress?● Where do people with disabilities park and enter the building?

Church Web Design Must Deliver the Right Message

You are wanting people to come worship with you, not look at your building.Pictures of your building should be on the “Directions” page.

If you include pictures of your sanctuary, make sure it's one of a full house, not anempty sanctuary.

Church Web Design Must Introduce the Pastor

Having a brief bio and photo of the pastor helps people feel more connected andlet's people know who they are looking for when they visit.

Church Web Design Must Have a Clear Invitation to Contact

Trying to convince people that you are a friendly church and then telling visitors to your site that someone will get back with them within 24 hours is actually counterproductive.Visitors should be able to quickly communicate with you in the way that’s most convenient for them.

Take a minute and really look at your church’s website from the viewpoint of a potential visitor.

● What draws your attention first?● What would you like to see that isn’t there?● Does it properly reflect the priorities of your church?

If you don’t have a church website, you may want to take this opportunity to seriously discuss it. If you have a church website that looks like it was created in 1997, you may want to take this opportunity to discuss a church web design makeover.
