Papal Visit

Usually, Papal Masses typically begin with an entrance procession that includes seven acolytes carrying candles. This practice of acolytes carrying candles is attested to a document called Ordo Romanus primus that was written in the 7th -8th century. According to the document, the seven acolytes represent the seven ecclesiastical districts into which Rome was divided at that time. This practice signifies the Pope as the bishop of Rome. The Bishop of Rome is the title that Pope Francis has emphasized repeatedly ever since he became the Pope. He was elected the 266th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church in 2013. Our archbishop Timothy Cardinal Dolan explained in an interview that to society at large the Pope is seen as a world leader, a political leader, and a media personality, all roles that he plays to one degree or another. However, Catholics see Pope Francis first “as our Holy Father – he is a pastor, an apostle, an evangelist.” There is no doubt that the historic visit of Pope Francis to the United States made a big impression not only in the faith of all Catholics, but also in the lives of many non-Catholics and non-Christians. In light of Holy Father’s visit to the United States this year, he has been called the “Pastor to the World.” Pope Francis embodies the love of Christ in his humble, gentle, and hospitable life-style. The popularity of Pope Francis is undeniable among Catholics and non-Catholics. One of the reasons can be that he meets and addresses everyone where they are. His writings, homilies, teachings, and encyclicals speak about the sorrow, brokenness, joys, and hopes of people. Not only does he meet the people where they are, he also expresses his humble nature in how he lives, what he says, and what he does. In an article, “A Big Heart Open to God” in America magazine, Fr. Antonio Spadaro, S.J., who himself is the editor of the magazine had an interview with Pope Francis in 2013. In their dialogue, Fr. Spadaro asked Pope Francis, point blank, “Who is Jorge Mario Bergoglio?” Pope Francis nodded and replied to him, “I do not know what might be the most fitting description….I am a sinner. This is the most accurate definition. It is not a figure of speech, a literary genre. I am a sinner.” Then, he further stated that I am one who is looked upon by the Lord. He always felt his motto, “Miserando atque eligenda,” which is taken from the Homilies of Bede the Venerable which are very true to him. The translation of this motto is; “By having mercy and by choosing Him!” He has already made some remarkable statements during his papacy. In a special vigil that he held in St. Peter’s Square for the peace in Syria in 2013, he stated, “When man thinks only of himself…(and) permits himself to be captivated by the idols of dominion and power, the door opens to violence, indifference, and conflict. Again, in a General Audience in 2013 he mentioned, “May the Church be a place of God’s mercy and hope, where all feel welcomed, loved, forgiven and encouraged to live according to the good life of the Gospel!”

ParishPay is the best means available of supporting our parish. Currently, we have 96 families in our Parish participating and we would like to grow that number. Often times as we’re preparing to head out to Mass, we forget to put money or a check in our envelope and decide to postpone giving until the following week when we can give two envelopes. But any delay in tithing could potentially hinder the parish from paying its bills in a timely fashion. With Parish Pay, there is no delay. Even if you can’t make the Mass due to inclement weather, Parish Pay ensures that your giving to Infant Saviour will be available to the parish when it’s needed most. It’s a more consistent way of giving and it enables the parish to better calculate what amount will be coming in which makes things easier on the parish financially. With Parish Pay, tithing may be made through your checking account, savings account or even a credit card every week or month at NO cost to you. It’s a secure and confidential way to tithe. Once you’ve seen the Parish Pay website, you realize just how quick and easy it is to modify your giving or even stop it entirely should you run into some sort of financial difficulty and find yourself unable to give. The quickest way to enroll is by using the website www.parishpay.com , or calling the Parish Office 744-2391 x10. There is also a link to Parish Pay through our own parish website, www.infantsaviour.org. For those of you who worry about what other people will think when you don’t put anything in the basket, you can simply deposit an empty envelope in the basket with the words Parish Pay written on the amount. We encourage you to surf out to the Parish Pay website and see just what this way of giving has to offer. Thank you in advance for your continued generosity to Infant Saviour Parish, your spiritual home. May God Bless You All Abundantly.
