O COME, LET US ADORE HIM, CHRIST THE LORD!

“On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.

Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.” Matthew 2:11

Can you believe that the holidays are here, and we are closing out another year? This year 2013 has been full of life at Christ The King Lutheran Church. Full of wonderful things, new births, physically and spiritually! New additions in members of the church, weddings, and family members. New discoveries of God’s presence and grace as we have seen His faithfulness manifest in so many ways. WE CAN SEEK HIM IN WORSHIP. Each weekend this year in Advent will be a special time of celebration. Saturday nights (and two Sunday mornings) we will be presenting “The Purpose of Christmas” by Rick Warren. It is based on an excellent book which talks about why we celebrate Christ’s birth. All four parts will be presented Saturday nights at THE BROOK worship service. It begins Saturday, November 30th at 6:00 p.m., and will be the focus of two Sunday morning services on December 1st and December 22nd. We also have the Children’s Christmas Program on December 8th and the powerful Choir Concert with full live orchestration on December 15th at both services. Don’t miss these wonderful opportunities to come and adore Him! WE CAN SEEK HIM IN FELLOWSHIP. There are many opportuni-ties to get together for fun and fellowship. Check your bulletin for the S.O.C.K.S. Bunco Party and the concert at Emmanuel (see page 14). WE CAN SEEK HIM AS A FAMILY. I encourage you to take time as a family to do something fun. Our family always takes a drive to look at lights in the neighborhoods, or to enjoy a family night of games. Christmas is a time to get reconnected in our families. WE CAN SEEK HIM IN OUR OWN PERSONAL DEVOTION TIMES. Nothing replaces simply being quiet in the presence of the Lord. It’s hard with all the distractions around us, but take time, even a few minutes a day, and be quiet, reflect, read God’s Word and thank Him for coming into your life. WE CAN SEEK HIM BY GIVING TO OTHERS. Remember the Alternative Gift program is available to bless families across the world with the resources we have in our country. There is so much to be thankful for, and we are blessed with each other. I thank God I get to serve Him with you! Remember also Christmas Eve services are a little different this year! We will have the usual 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. services, but this year we are trying something new — an 11:00 p.m. late even-ing service. All three will have Holy Communion!

O come, let us adore Him…our savior, Christ the Lord! Merry Christmas! P. Mark

Sunday Kid’s Activities (For Preschool-6th Graders)

Nursery (Infant - 18 months) — Available during the 8:00 a.m. worship service, Sunday School at 9:30 a.m., and during the 10:30 a.m. worship service. Sunday School (1st - 6th Grades) & Play n’ Worship Sun-day School (Preschool-Kindergarten) — “Knowing” is our topic this month. “Nothing could be more important than knowing and being known by God. We live in a world that denies absolute truth, but God’s Word offers just that. As we create an environment that upholds and displays God’s truth, we give children a foundation based on knowing God, believing His Word and cultivating a relationship with Him through Christ. God is holy, mighty, and awesome, yet He has chosen to make Himself known to us!” Classes meet from 9:30-10:20 a.m. in Room #3 & Room #5. Please pick up your children before the 10:30 a.m. worship service begins. NO Sunday School on December 29th!

C2 (Children’s Church) — We use the “Tru” children’s materials. Our children learn about who God is and about His redemptive plan through the Big God Story. Learning is hands-on, interactive and has meaningful times for kids to respond to what God is doing in their

lives. We meet in classrooms #3, #5, #6, and the Youth Room. Be sure to “check-in” in front of the church. Ask about getting a FREE copy of HomeFront, a spiritual parenting resource to help families connect and grow together spiritually.

Once again, your family can participate by adopting a family with whom to share this most joyous and holy Christmas season. Our Angel Tree will contain families from Christ The King, The Fallbrook Food Pantry, and military families from Camp Pendleton. Our Tree will be on display between church services on Sundays, Decem-ber 8th and December 15th, for your family selection. So be sure to join us and be-come a “Christ The King Angel Tree” family! It is a wonderful way for your family to share its loving kindness and make Christ’s birthday brighter for others. Additionally, two families may join together to adopt a family and share the excitement and joy of providing Christmas to those who need an occasional helping hand. PARABLE OF THE WEEDS One day I was waiting for an event to start at church and I watched as one of the members went over and pulled weeds in one of the flower beds. It only took a few seconds, but I thought to myself if eve-ryone did this we would have no weeds at the church. The weeds represent chances to volunteer at Christ The King. There are big jobs and there are small jobs, and if everyone pulled together what a great church we would have. So, think about what you can do, big or small, and get pull-ing! If you need help finding a place to

serve, call or e-mail me and I will help connect you. God's Blessings, Leslie Fullerton, CTK Stewardship Chairperson, [email protected].

Les and Betty Hansen’s (CTK members) family founda-tion has been supporting a knitting project aimed at helping refu-gee women to recover from the trauma that they experienced as a result of the war in Syria. Their granddaughter, Nicole, her hus-band and their two children (missionaries in the Middle East) had to leave Syria two years ago, and move to another country because of the violence. There they began to distribute winter blankets and heaters. They found that while the refugees were grateful, they were ashamed to accept handouts. This caused Nicole and her family to look for a way to bring dignity, provide for the needs of refugees, and bring relief to their trauma. Nicole learned to knit from Betty when she was a teenag-er, so she used that knowledge to start the project with 15 women (now it is up to 45 women). Immediately, Nicole saw a change in the women. They were excited, they were proud of their work, and a new community was formed where they were able to share both grief and joy together. They were also able to hear stories from God’s word for the first time, and to see God’s faithfulness. Recently, this family started a non-profit, Hungry Hearts Interna-tional, to raise more funds and prayer support for the project and refugees. This family will be joining us for worship on Sunday, December 15th, and will bring knitted items. To learn more about their project, you can contact Les and Betty Hansen at their website at www.hungryheartsint.com.

If you have trouble hearing any part of our services while at church, please pick up a listening device located on the table at the sound booth. You just push the red button to turn it on, then adjust the volume. At the end of the service, please turn the device off and return it to the sound board area. Using one of these may help you to enjoy the services even more. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Diane Erickson, Worship Chairman in the church office, [email protected].

[Letter to Pastor Kenneth from

CTK Regular Visitor, Marine Curtiss Ellis, who is currently serving in Afghanistan.]

Hey Pastor Kenneth, I am out here in the fun desert land of Afghanistan. It isn’t too bad anymore. Still

has it’s ups and downs, but life will go on. Malorie, and our two girls are living in Corona with her parents. They will be in Corona until I get back, probably May or June 2014. Man, do I miss Christ The King Lutheran Church! Especially, the Thursday evening Basic Training Men’s Bible study that you lead! I downloaded as many podcast sermons as I could from the church website before I left. If the Internet was worth two cents, I would be able to stay current on the sermons but I’m going to have Malorie send me a thumb drive once every other week or so with sermons on it. I am able to attend church out here on Sundays, but it is not the same as CTK...but we make it work ;-) I am also trying to spread the Word to a few people in my unit as much as I can and get them on the right path with God. I have a lot of room to grow and will never have enough. Please tell the church folk I say “hello” and that I miss them all. And to Pastor Mark, thanks for every-thing. I still remember the day he came to my house and opened my eyes to God. Curtis Ellis

A Very Large Thank You to All of My Thoughtful and Caring Friends at CTK!

During my recent illness, I was so blessed with all the visits, cards, the wonderful soups, and flowers.

A special thanks to Pastor Mark for his calls and prayers. To my son, Spence, there aren’t enough

words to thank him for always being there for me. Love and God Bless You All! Eleanor Gammell

The Cookie Walk [at the Country Holiday Faire]

was a huge success, because of the hard work (and delicious cookies) from our volunteers and helpers.

Thank you for all your loving efforts and support. Paula Farley
