From the Pastor’s Desk

This weekend we begin the holy season of Advent. This liturgicalseason is much like a four-week retreat Christians make inpreparation for the nativity of our Savior. The goal is to prepareour hearts and minds for the coming of the Lord. The means tothis end will be unique for each one of us. Perhaps you will bedevoting a few moments of prayer each day to Mary, the Motherof God. Or you may be spending time with a neighbor who isgrieving the loss of a loved one and who needs extra companyduring the holidays. Possibly your Advent retreat means makinga conscientious effort not to be overwhelmed by the materialisticcelebration of Christmas, but rather focusing wholeheartedly onthe spiritual meaning of Jesus’ birth. No matter what your“retreat” looks like, let us not take these days of preparation forgranted. When December 25 arrives, may we be refreshed andrenewed in the God’s grace, mercy, and love.

May the Lord bless you throughout the upcoming week.

Este fin de semana comienza el tiempo santo del Adviento. Este tiempolitúrgico es como un retiro de cuatro semanas que los Cristianos hacenen preparación para el nacimiento de nuestro Salvador. El objetivo espreparar nuestros corazones y mentes para la venida del Señor. Losmedios para este fin serán únicos para cada uno de nosotros. Tal vezusted dedicará algunos momentos de oración todos los días a María, laMadre de Dios. O pueda que usted pase algún tiempo con un vecino queestá pasando por la pérdida de un ser querido y necesita compañía extradurante estas fiestas. Posiblemente su retiro de Adviento significa hacerun esfuerzo consciente para no dejarse abrumar por las celebracionesmaterialistas de la Navidad, que no se enfocan de corazón en el sentidoespiritual del nacimiento de Jesús. No importa como sea su “retiro”, perono tomemos a la ligera estos días de preparación. Cuando llegue el 25de diciembre, ojalá podamos refrescarnos y renovarnos en la gracia, lamisericordia, y el amor de Dios.
