Duration of study and degree qualification Standard period of study: 4 semesters Degree: Diplom Entrance requirements Special musical talent University degree in a study programme that included at least 4 semesters of choral conducting (final grade at least good), e.g. Teachers Training Music, Church Music, at UdK Berlin or an equivalent qualification from another university or college of music Sufficient knowledge of German Proof of payment of the 30 application fee Documents to be submitted with applications Completed application form CV in tabular form Certificate of university graduation, foreign certificates have to be handed in as certified translation (German or English) Unauthenticated photocopy of final school report Applicants from the Peoples Republic of China must obtain a certificate from the Academic Evaluation Centre www.aps.org.cn Proof of knowledge of German: Minimum requirement (to have been fulfilled by the final deadline for applications): proof of linguistic ability equivalent to level A2 Requirement for study (to have been fulfilled before matriculation): proof of linguistic ability equivalent to level B2 Bank statement (for transfers from abroad, proof of payment) documenting payment of 30 application fee: Recipient: Kasse der Technischen Universitt Berlin Account number: 8841015046 Bank code: 10090000 (Berliner Volksbank) Reason for transfer: 35/01036 - Entgelt Zugangsprfung Musik For transfers from abroad: International banking number IBAN DE 72100 900 00 884 101 50 46 BIC/SWIFT-Code BE VO DE BB Payer is responsible for all bank charges Applications together with complete documentation should be sent to the address given on the application form. Please note that not the date of the postmark but the arrival of all documents before the deadline is decisive. Entrance examinations As a rule, these take place in late June / early July. The entrance examination consists of the following:

    1. Music theory/Aural training: Written examination (approx. 45 minutes): Harmonizing a given melody; music dictation; repeating of chords Oral-practical examination (approx. 45 minutes): music theory and harmony; basic concepts of musical form, Basso continuo; recognition of intervals, chords, rhythms, singing a given melody, improvising a piano accompaniment for a folk song or harmonizing of a choral; transposition of wind instruments Artistic piano playing: Presentation of a medium difficult composition from respectively the pre-classical, romantic, and contemporary periods (approx. 15 minutes). After the first round the examination commission will decide about the admissions to the second round. Applicants that have already finished music theory/aural training in previous studies with the grade good as well as artistic piano playing (as a major) with the grade satisfactory are exempt from the first part of the entrance examination. 2. Singing (approx. 10 minutes): singing of a simple aria from an opera or an oratorio. The applicant accompanies her/himself at the piano; sight-singing of a difficult choral voice (e.g. Reger, op. 110,1). Conducting with piano (approx. 10 minutes): a chosen accompagnato-recitative from a classical oratorio (e.g. J. Haydn the Creation). While conducting all singing parts must be sung or spoken by the applicant. For the orchestral part, candidates must bring their own accompanist. Score-playing/piano reduction (approx. 10 minutes): sight-reading of a choral composition in modern clefs (e.g. Bruckner - Ave Maria) and old clefs (Bach-Choral) as well as parts from a classical piano reduction and a score with transposed instruments (e.g. Mozart- Requiem). After the second round the examination commission will decide about the admissions to the third round. 3. Choral conducting (approx. 15 minutes): The applicant will be informed about the task 8 days ahead of the examination (level of difficulty: J.Brahms, op.62 - Waldesnacht; H.Schtz St Matthew-Passion).
