Happy New Year! Welcome back! We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a

very Happy and Healthy 2018. We hope you had an enjoyable Christmas and a chance to

relax!

Last term was certainly a busy one. Our first PLT meeting was a lovely opportunity to catch

up and welcome our new recruits as well as saying farewell to a few of our longest standing

PLTs – Sian Northern-Evans, Fiona Watkins and Rebecca Hagley. Their support and

enthusiasm over the years has been fantastic and they will be sorely missed. We wish them

well in their new roles.

Looking back through the last couple of terms, it has certainly been a busy start to the year

with two football festivals, two multi-skills festivals, two Real PE courses, a Young Officials

course, a Young Ambassador Conference and of course the fabulous and festive Christmas

Cross-country event. We had a record breaking number of runners this year just shy of 600!

We are always pleased to see so many young people involved in these events and appreciate

all the support the schools give in enabling their children to take part.

Looking forward to this term, festival season is well and truly upon us. We have four multi-skills

festivals planned which have been fully booked up, the School Games Level 2 Hockey, High 5

Netball, and Tag rugby festival as well as our first All Active Academy and Talent Team

workshops of the year. Perhaps the most exciting event of the term is our Dance festival which

this year will be taking place in The Neeld in Chippenham. We are very excited to hear about

all the wonderful dances emerging through rehearsals in preparation for this event. It is going

to be a spectacular showcase of talent from our local pupils.

We hope you have a good term, Selina, Jessica and Helen

PLT Meeting

The first PLT

meeting of the

year was held on Friday 22nd

September at Abbeyfield School.

After tucking in to bacon and egg

rolls, it was an opportunity for us all

to run through the year ahead and

listen to the updates about the

Sport Premium Funding from Rik

Grover.

We welcomed to the Partnership, Kezia Watson from Ivy

Lane, Josh West from Derry Hill, Geoff Hill from St Paul’s

Primary School and Rachel Curtis from St Nicholas

School in Bromham and formally thanked and waved

farewell to Sian Northern-Evans, Fiona Watkins, Andrew

Prosser and Nikki Bowman who have all been a valuable

part of the Chippenham Sports Partnership over the

years.

This year, the meeting was combined with the Dance

CPD led by Caroline “the dance lady” which was great

fun as well as being useful, and enabled us all to start

thinking about how to introduce and develop the theme of ‘Through the Ages’ as schools

prepare for the Dance Festival in February.

Real PE and Gym

On Wednesday 4th October, Monkton Park Primary School which is a Create Learning School,

hosted an Introduction to Real PE Course led by Sarah Moon. On Monday 12th October, Sarah

Moon also led a session introducing Real Gym at Cherhill Primary School which was well

attended and a valuable CPD opportunity for all involved. Schools within the Partnership

continue to have a close relationship with Real PE incorporating their fantastic resources and

engaging and motivating pupils through progressive, high quality PE lessons.

PLT and Young Ambassador Conference at Trowbridge

Civic Centre.

On Monday 9th October, a group of children and staff travelled to Trowbridge to take part in the PLT

and Young Ambassador Conference which was organised by Selwyn Widger, West Wilts SGO. This

was the first time members of the Chippenham Sports Partnership had been invited to attend. Children

had the opportunity to attend a number of different workshops including School Games Values, School

Sports Organising Crew (setting up a sports council), Supporter 2 Reporter initiative and an introduction

to the Change 4 Life Programme.

1.5 Football Festival Tuesday 5th December 2017

This is an inter-school football festival for Year 5 and 6 pupils to encourage participation in

football for those boys and girls who don’t play regularly for a team but enjoy playing the

game and wish to represent their school against other schools. The format for this event is

similar to the Level 2 School Games Football. The only difference is that this is an additional

‘stand-alone’ event and does not lead to qualification to Level 3. The event takes place at

Stanley Park in Chippenham and is organised by Paul Wickens, the School Games

Organiser. This year six schools took part from either the Chippenham or Devizes Sport

Partnerships.

Young Officials Course

The Young Officials Course is always well attended and offers pupils the chance to learn about the role of an official in a choice of sports. This year, all the pupils took part in either netball, football or a Young Leaders option. It was great to see so much enthusiasm for what is for most of them, their first experience of taking on an officiating role. Everyone taking part received a t-shirt and whistle and had a go at using their knowledge and understanding to officiate. So many of those involved in this course go on to officiate further up in their education either within their school setting or at the many festivals which take place during the year. We are looking forward to the Summer Young Officials Course in June where pupils will have the opportunity to take part in Tri-golf and Rounders.

Multi-skills Festivals

There have been three Multi Skills festivals this year, with four

more to follow this term. Multi-skills focus on the fundamentals of

agility, balance and co-ordination and allows children to

experiment with different types of movement and explore sports

in a new, fun way. Children take part in a carousal of activities

organised by Sports Leaders from the local secondary schools.

The leaders are always

excellent role models and really engage with the children

to make sure they have fun. For many of the children,

this is their first experience of a sporting event outside of

school and an opportunity to meet and work alongside

other children their own age. These events are always

very busy and noisy but packed with energy!

School Games Level 2 Football Festival

The first festival of the year

took place on Wednesday 15th November at

Stanley Park Sports Ground. The event was

once again supported by Pulse Academy who

provided the officials. The quality of skills

displayed by the children was exceptionally high

and the matches were played in good sporting

spirit.

Securing a place in the qualifying round for the Level 3 School Games Competition winning and coming runner up in the mixed group was St Marys and Kings Lodge. Redland

and St Marys won a place in the Girls competition and St

Peters and Charter will go on to qualify for the Small Schools Competition. We would like to wish them all the best of luck for this event which will take place in January 2018 at Stanley Park in Chippenham. Crazy Christmas Cross-Country

Christmas festivities would not be the same without the sight of hundreds of tinsel clad

children braving the freezing weather conditions to take part in the annual cross-country

event. This has become one of the largest events in our calendar and one of the most

enjoyable to watch. On the most beautiful blue sky day, this year we welcomed nearly six

hundred children! Before setting off, everyone involved took part in a warm-up led by the star

of the show, Father Christmas and his merry helpers, to the tune of Choco Choco (of course!)

before Mrs Lisa Percy formally declared the event ‘Open’. This year for the first time,

children had the choice to take part in either a competitive race or to take things at their own

pace and enjoy the social run. It was great to see so many children and adults taking part

and enjoying the event. The Gazette and Herald published a fantastic set of photos which

capture the determination of all those who took part. To celebrate their achievement, all

those involved were able to enjoy a hot chocolate with a sprinkling of marshmallows. Special

thanks to all the local sponsors who donated the refreshments - Tesco Express in Pewsham

for donating 600 cups worth of hot chocolate, Iceland of Chippenham for donating three tubs

of hot chocolate, Sainsbury’s of Chippenham for donating all the marshmallows and Marks

and Spencer Food for donating all the mince pies.

YST Resources and Learning

YST Resources and Learning is a new range of resources, e-learning and face to face training developed

to help tackle the complex and demanding challenges across the whole school. Designed to complement YST Membership and our range of funded programmes, these solutions will support teachers and staff to further understand the needs of young people and continually deliver high quality PE, physical activity and school sport. Each of the resources and learning are linked to at least three of the ten challenges that are currently facing schools. These include: • Knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver high quality PE/physical literacy • Declining emotional wellbeing and resilience • Developing character traits, life skills and leadership/employability in young people • Ensuring the inclusion of all young people • Evidencing and assessing impact for students and the school • Improving student behaviour, attitudes to learning and supporting transition • Parental engagement/activity at home • Raising aspirations, narrowing the gap and enabling social mobility • Supporting progress and attainment across the whole school • Tackling inactivity and physical wellbeing Please click on the links below and use the filter to find out the relevant resources and learning to help meet your children and young people’s needs in early years and primary settings https://www.youthsporttrust.org/resources-and-learning/resources-library/early-years https://www.youthsporttrust.org/resources-and-learning/resources-library/primary-schools

Evidencing the Impact of the Primary PE and Sport Premium – Winter 2017 ‘Revised reporting template’ (Commissioned by the DfE) ‘Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer’ The vision for the ‘Primary PE and Sport Premium’, is that ALL pupils leaving primary school are physically literate and provided with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport. Maintained schools, including those that convert to academies, MUST publish, on their website by early April 2018, information about their use of the Primary PE and Sport Premium. The revised template is the recommended tool for reporting on this information. Schools should publish the amount of premium received; a full breakdown of how it has been spent (or will be spent); what impact the school has seen on pupils’ PE and sport participation and attainment and how the improvements will be sustainable in the future. Schools should also consider how their use of the premium is giving pupils the opportunity to develop a healthy, active lifestyle. The premium must be spent by schools on making additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport for the benefit of all pupils to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles. The ‘new’ swimming condition is also included on the revised reporting template For full details, advice and links to the revised template follow - http://bit.ly/2h7KBwu

The first presentation is designed for Head teachers, PLT’s and school staff, whilst the second is intended for school governors. Both presentations are approximately 30 minutes in duration, and give an overview of the local and national picture of the Primary Sports Premium, plus relevant information depending on the presentation audience.

A guidance booklet also accompanies the Governors presentation.

Please contact Rik if you would like him to come to your school to deliver the presentation, or if you require advise or support with any aspects of the PSP - Rik Grover on 01225 781500 or email [email protected]
