“Vitamin CEIBS”
Alumni companies in Qingdao
were the first beneficiaries of an
innovative new multi-module
management course the school has designed
for mid-level managers that began on
October 10. Besides Qingdao, the course will
be offered to alumni company executives in
Jinan, Xian, Zhengzhou, and Nanjing. It is
the first time that the school is offering this
type of off-campus Executive Education
course.
Speaking at the course launch ceremony
in Qingdao, CEIBS Chinese President
Professor Li Mingjun explained that the
success of a business school depends largely
on how successful its alumni enterprises
are, and that this new course aims to help
alumni companies across China deepen the
management skills and knowledge of their
staff. Associate Dean (Executive Education)
and Professor of Marketing Wang Gao said
the course aims to give alumni enterprises a
dose of “vitamin CEIBS”.
The course was held at the Scitae
Business School’s Ba Da Guan Campus in
Qindao, which is also providing an office for
CEIBS Alumni Association Qingdao, making
it the first alumni group with a fixed office. A
ceremony was held there October 10 to mark
the office opening.

Finance + Internet = Innovation
CEIBS is the first ever business
school to provide support for
MBA students with a platform
that combines f inancia l instruments
with mobile Internet technology. Jointly
established by CEIBS alumni company
Noah Holdings and its Internet finance
subs id iar y company Ca i Fu Pa i , the
non-profit financial aid project CEIBS-
Noah Di Shui Quan will complement the
school’s existing scholarship system by
providing low-interest loans to students
who only need to repay the interest, not
the amount borrowed. A number of CEIBS
alumni and professors have already given
a commitment to provide seed funding
for the project through donations or
interest free loans. A launch ceremony for
the platform was held on October 20 at
the Shanghai Campus. The hope is that
students from the MBA 2018 Class will be
able to benefit from the project next year.

initiative of the school’s Management Committee,
the evening underscored the importance with which
CEIBS regards the Diplomatic Corps and the wider
business community.
The Centre’s study focused on what it calls the
“light touch” model used by Chinese firms who
venture abroad. Throughout the evening, faculty and
representatives of Chinese firms that have gone global
provided concrete examples of why this light touch
is a win-win for both the acquirer and the firm being
acquired. CEIBS Chinese President Prof Li Mingjun
and Vice President & Co-Dean Prof Zhang Weijiong

Entrepreneurship Advice from Huang Nubo
Ch a i r m a n o f B e i j i n g
Zhongkun Group Huang
Nubo (EMBA 1996) spoke
on “Entrepreneurship Spirit and
Dilemma of Wolf Totem” at the July
24 CEIBS Alumni Forum held at the
Shanghai Campus.
Hu a n g e x p l a i n e d t h a t t h e
difference between “businessmen” and
entrepreneurs is that entrepreneurs
innovate but businessmen do not.
He also spoke of the dark side of
the entrepreneurial spirit, which
requires that one must be “ruthless”
when launching a business and
hold onto that ambition to expand.
Huang compared this tenacity to the
nature of a wolf, but warned that if
ambition goes too far, or people who
are unprepared for entrepreneurship
rush to launch a start-up, it could
be dangerous. This is the dilemma
explored in Wolf Totem, a bestselling
Chinese novel recently adapted for
film, Huang said. He added that he
is exploring ways to combine the
Chinese entrepreneurial spirit with
Confucianism and Buddhism to solve
this problem, as both these belief
systems stress the importance of
doing kind deeds for others.
On behalf of the school, CEIBS
President Li Mingjun presented the
first CEIBS gold coin – called the
“CEIBS Yuan” – to Huang as a token
of gratitude, and in recognition of
both his philanthropy and excellent
contribution to the conservation of
cultural heritage. The CEIBS Gold
Coin is CEIBS President Pedro
Nueno’s personal donation to the
school. He designed and ordered the
limited edition coins made of pure
gold. Organised by the CEIBS Alumni
Relations Office, the event at which
Huang spoke was sponsored by Future
Land. Director of the Alumni Relations
Office Wang Qingjiang moderated.

Online Education Micro Forum
Combining online and offline
learning is the most effective
way for schools and other
educational institutions to embrace
the digital age, according to experts
who spoke at a Micro Forum on online
education at the Beijing Campus

reflected this hybrid philosophy – 100
