Supplies •Small Clean sponges •Medium Size Bowls (the same number of bowls as the colors you use, plus one for water) •Liquid Food Coloring Activity Put water in one of the bowls. In the other bowls place a drop of food coloring and give the sponge to your child. Encourage your child to: •Place the sponge in to the bowl of water and talk about what happens to the sponge in the water and what happens if you squeeze the sponge. •Squeeze the sponge and place water into the bowls with food coloring. •Mix the water and see the cause and effect and talk about the colors and what happens when you mix the colors. •Squeeze the sponge. Bubble wrap Dance Supplies •Bubble wrap •Music Source Activity Place bubble wrap on the floor and turn on the music. Encourage child to step on and dance on the bubble wrap. Talk about their movements, the music and the sound of the bubbles popping. Child can also pop the bubbles with their figures. Help your child notice the the similarities and differences between the forks, spoons and knifes. Have child sort the silver ware. Stretching As You Play Grip Step 1 of the Grip. Lay the baby on his back on the floor. Wrap your baby's hand around your forefinger; hold in place with your thumb and third finger. Stretch out baby's arm by gently drawing his hand toward you. Do not pull baby up off the floor. Return to the starting position. Repeat 5 times with each arm. Exercises: Pull-Up Step 2 of the Pull-Up Grasp your baby's forearms. Keeping his back straight, pull baby up slowly to a sitting position. Slowly and softly return baby to the floor. Repeat 4 times. Elbow Stand Step 2 of the Elbow Stand. Lay the child on his stomach, and place his elbows directly underneath his shoulders, his forearms on the floor. Grasp and lift baby's hips and trunk to form a 45-degree angle with the floor. Let the child rest on his forearms. Try to lift the legs up a little higher, but make sure the baby doesn't bang his nose. Stretching As You Play. Family Limbo Supplies •Broom/Pole •Music Source Activity How low can you go? This is a fun activity that the entire family can join in to do together inside or outside. Use your imagination when it comes to using objects under which everyone must go under without their hands touching the floor. Objects could include a pool noodle, a broom, or a rope. Freeze Dance Choose some of your child's favorite music/songs and turn up the volume. Ask them to dance until the music stops. When it does, they have to freeze in whatever position they find themselves in – even if they have one leg up. To make the game more challenging, ask your child to freeze in specific poses: animals, shapes, letters or even yoga postures. Place the muffin tin/egg carton beside the bowl. Encourage your child to use the tongs to pick up the cotton balls and drop them in to the muffin tin. Encourage your child to try to use the table spoon to lift the cotton and drop them in to the muffin tin/egg carton. If the tongs and table spoon are too difficult encourage your child to use their hands to pick up and drop.

Club House Reading Time Select a book your child enjoys. Build a “Club House”, by using sheets, blankets, chairs and pillows large enough for you and your child can get into. Read your selected book(s) to your child, Ask questions about the story and pictures such as, "What do you think will happen next?" Removing tape from the Tub Supplies •Masking Tape •Large/Medium Plastic Tub Activity Turn tub upside down. Tear pieces of the masking tape and place it on the bottom of the tub. Space the piece of tape across the bottom. Encourage child to use a pincher grip to pull the tape off the tub. Talk to your child about their efforts and successes. Add more tape as needed. To add to the activity you can tape small object under the tape for your child to find like stickers. Literacy: Spend time together with a book/ talk about the book CLICK HERE TO CHOOSE A BOOK

Sing Out Enjoy singing with your child anytime of the day. (In the car, at the supermarket, on a walk or during your regular daily routine. You can make the songs up or you can sing your child's favorite songs. Sing one or all of these songs with your child and act them out together: • I’m a Little Teapot • If You’re Happy and You Know It • The Hokey Pokey • Ring around the Rosie • Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes • Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, Turn Around • Here We Go ‘Round the Mulberry Bush cy: Spend time together with a book/ talk about the book

Mini sandbox Take an empty plastic tub and fill it with sand, a few toys, shells, rocks or anything else your little one might like. Talk to your child as they manipulate the items in the sand. Talk about how it feels, hide items in the sand and ask child to find them, move the items around to make tracks, etc. This is great for the indoors especially in the cooler months (Just put a garbage bag or towel beneath the tub to help with clean-up). Run Away From the Monster Kids love a game of chase, especially with a parent or other adult they trust. A game of running from a “scary” monster will involve much squealing with delight. Check in with the child to ensure they are okay with the "monster". You may want to try an animal to replace the monster. Allow your child a turn of being the one who is the monster/animal. Twist and Shout Supplies •Open space •Stereo equipment •Music: “The Twist,” “Twist and Shout,” “Let’s Twist Again,” “Peppermint Twist” Activity 1. Show your child how to move with a twist (raised bent arms rotate with torso one direction, bent legs rotate with hips in other direction). 2. Play music and start twisting with your child. 3. Call out “shout!” every 15-20 seconds. Each time, your child must jump straight up. 4. After landing, your child must resume twisting. 5. Try to twist low to the floor from time to time. Variations o For a challenge, try to twist on one foot

Big Ball, Little Ball Select two balls, one large and one small. Help child roll the ball to you or another child. Talk about the difference in the sizes of the balls. Toy Hide-and-Seek Supplies •Toy Activity: Hide a toy somewhere in the house, and ask your child to find it. Explore with her, using cues like "warmer" and "colder" to guide them. You can use a blanket or basket to hide the toy to use with younger children. Encourage and acknowledge child's efforts and successes. Ice Cold Mountains Supplies •Small frozen blocks of Ice (use yogurt containers, fruit cup containers, small plastic containers, ice cube tray, etc.) •Food coloring (optional) •Cookie tray or tub Activity Before activity pre-freeze different shaped small blocks of ice. You can add food coloring if you would like. Place the ice blocks on the tray. Encourage the child to stack and move the blocks around. Talk about how the blocks of ice feel, colors, watch the blocks melt, talk about the water that comes when it melts. Mirror-Mirror This activity is all about copying actions and motions. Have your child stand face to face with you (or someone else). Choose who will move first and who will follow. Make small movements like swinging an arm from side to side. The other person must follow the first person's movement. Movements will look like you are looking in the mirror. Animal Friends 1. Either indoors or outdoors, pretend to be different animals with your child. 2. Flap your arms like bird wings and “fly” around obstacles. 3. Hop on all fours like a frog, and say “Ribbit-ribbit-ribbit”. 4. Hop on two legs with feet together, and pretend to be kangaroos. 5. Bend your knees, walk with your legs far apart, and swing your arms like chimpanzees. 6. Walk on feet and hands and pretend to be a reptile. 7. Walk on hands and knees and pretend to be kittens saying “meow”. 8. Slide on the floor or ground and pretend to be snakes saying “hiss”. 9. Invent other animal ideas and noises. Benefits This activity develops coordination and balance as kids try to imitate the movements of different animals.

Paint with water Use a paint brush, sponges, etc. to paint water on sidewalk, fences, walls, doors, toys, play equipment etc. Encourage child to make large arm movement and small arm movements. Literacy: Spend time together with a book/ talk about the book CLICK HERE TO CHOOSE A BOOK

Color Scavenger Hunt Choose a color and look for items that are the same color around the house and outside. Talk about everything you found while saying the color. Bubble Catch Instructions 1. Blow bubbles for your toddler outside. 2. Encourage your toddler to run, jump, and “catch” the bubbles as they float in the air. 3. The bubbles will break, and that is fine. TIP: Main focus is to get your toddler to jump and coordinate a bubble “catch” with hands. TIP: You can buy a simple toy for making soap bubbles, or you can make your own. TIP: If making your own bubble solution, try mix of one cup water, 2 tablespoons dish soap, 1 teaspoon corn syrup.
