TECHNICAL CIRCULAR No. RDSO/2016/EL/TC/0133, Rev. ‘0’, DATED:01.02.2016

Sub: Instructions to form Multiple Unit of Three Phase Electric locomotives.

1.0 Introduction

1.1 In multiple operation a maximum of two locomotives can be operated. Both must

be directly coupled to one another. They must not be separated by a carriage.

1.2 While in motion, the front driver's cab is usually activated.

1.3 When linking up or in unusual situations, it is also possible to control the locomotives from another driver's cab.

1.4 The train bus configuration for multiple operation is only possible from the

driver's cab at the uncoupled end. A configuration from a rear driver's cab is referred to as single-unit traction.

1.5 The train bus automatically checks the configuration.

1.6 The leading manned locomotive is called the master locomotive and the other

one is called the slave locomotive.

1.7 The two locomotives are correctly linked together once the mechanical and pneumatic systems and the UIC cable have been connected.

1.8 Commands are transmitted down the UIC cable.

2.0 Steps to be followed during the coupling of locomotives 2.1 Both locomotives must be deactivated.

2.2 The key switch must be in position "0".

2.3 Couple both locomotives mechanically, pneumatically and connect the UIC cable.

2.4 Close the isolating cock on the brake supply line (on pneumatic manifold) of the

locomotives as below.

2.4.1 Setting- up Control stand

2.5 Move the key switch on the slave locomotive into position "D and, as soon as the light test starts (display Node-504), turn back to position"0". The MCE on the slave locomotive is now in self-hold mode (for 10 minute).

2.6 During the self-hold mode of the slave locomotive, move key switch into Pos."D

on the master locomotive. The control electronics starts to configure the trainbus. 2.7 After the configuration procedure, screen on the display shows the serial

numbers of the master and slave locomotives.

Example:

Train Configuration

Loco 3XXXX Loco 3XXXX

3.0 Problem in formation of Multi

3.1 If configuration proves impossible (or if no slave locomotive is available)

locomotive number 00000 appears.

3.2 If more than one driver's cab is activated in both locomotives, one loco will be shut down and a corresponding message appears on the displays in both locomotives.

3.3 If the multi is formed and for any reason the train bus link is interrupted then

system protection initiates a monitored shut down of the slave locomotive. Due to interruption of train bus the pantograph of the slave locomotive is lowered and a corresponding fault message appears on the screen of the master locomotive. In case of 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 above initiate procedure from clause 2.0. If still the multi is not forming then follow steps as per clause 4.0 below.

4.0 In case the multiple unit is not working even after adopting the above procedure following should be insured: 4.1 All sub - D connectors have 9 pin hence care should be taken that each sub D

connected at proper place on Train Bus-coupler XVB708.

Check the continuity between UIC Socket pin and connector F of connecting box trainbus (Train Bus-coupler XVB708).

4.4 In case of message no. F1901 P1 "TRAIN BUS ISLATED' appears on DDU (orPIXY) then follow the following:a. Switch off MCE and then Switch on MCE.b. If the message appears again then check ZVB card and its peri-card LA A424

C01.c. If ZVB card is Ok then 411 YC (adopter coding key) may be defective.

Change the same and follow the procedure as per clause 2.

4.5 In c<;lsethe multiple unit is not working even after adopting the above procedureZVB card and its Peri-Card LA A424 C01 should be checked.

5.0 The above procedures apply for WAP-5, WAP-7, WAG-9 and WAG-9H class oflocomotives.
