EM24 to Move into New Facility at999 E. Touhy by End of Fall 2009By the end of Fall 2009, EM24 will bemoving its Chicago operations to 999 E. Touhy in Des Plaines, IL, wherecontractors are applying the finishingtouches for a cutting-edge centralstation that will meet the securityindustry’s needs for decades to come. Currently configured for 25 stations, the monitoring room and adjacent datacenter cover 5,000-square feet. “We built the monitoring room withlarge, multi-functional smart stationsdesigned for ergonomics andefficiency,” said Director of TechnicalOperations, Baird Larson, who istaking the lead on the construction.“There is also ample room and wiringin place to allow us to increasecapacity any time we want.” The newcentral station is expected to beoperational as a branch this Summerand a phased move from Chicago willbegin shortly thereafter. The move willbe completed before Winter. “Once wedecided to secure this space, the nextstage was to design a space plan tosatisfy our business needs and coderequirements. However, throughout the15,000 square feet that is EM24 space,we went above and beyond allprevailing industry standards becausethere are many other considerationslike the usability, functionality and themarketing aspect for creating thisfacility,” said Larson. “Ultimately, wedecided our data center had to beadjacent to the monitoring area. It justmakes sense to have our 24/7 mannedoperations room next to our core
communications systems, hardwareand applications. It also allowed us tobuild a viewing area that showcasesthe monitoring room and data centerso touring alarm dealers can have avisual of how everything workstogether and how we invest in bothpeople and technology.”

This information is not available to Monitors when they aredispatching on accounts.“It’s very important that our dealersunderstand the Notes field is strictlyfor their own record keeping, possibly to remind them of whenthe system needs to be inspected orto follow up with a customer acertain amount of time after theinstallation,” said Ellen McGraw,Data Entry Manager. “Monitors donot have access to the Notes via thedispatch software. New EM24 Website Posted Fire-Lite IP-DACT CommunicationModule Meets Code for IP MonitoringWith the emergence of Voice overInternet Protocol (VoIP) and the factthat analog lines are now moredifficult to obtain and costly tomaintain, many businesses areforsaking traditional POTS lines for the new technology.
Unfortunately, VoIP transmissions to central station monitoringreceivers often cannot deliver thealarm signals due to compressionalgorithms and bandwidthallocation, which varies based onnetwork traffic. While there areseveral VoIP providers, none haveyet to address the issue of alarmsystem communications.
Fortunately, EM24 invested in theTeldat VisorAlarm Plus-2 receiverthat provides a solution to the VoIPissue. The VisorAlarm is designedto work with both the Fire-Lite andNotifier IP-DACT. The IP-DACTalarm communication module is oneof the few UL-864 listed productson the market for Contact IDreporting over the Internet listedspecifically for all of the Fire-Litebranded products.
Benefits of the IP-DACT include:
Saves the cost of two dedicatedphone lines. Only the customer’sshared IP equipment is required. The IP-DACT connects directly to the primary and secondarytelephone ports. Fast alarm transmission (less than 10 second transmission time). Works over any type of customer-provided Ethernet 10/100 Basenetwork connection (LAN orWAN), DSL modem or cablemodem. Data transmits standard ContactID protocol but is secured with theindustry’s highest level ofencryption (AES 512 bit). Supports both dynamic (DHCP)or Public and Private Static IPaddressing. Supports dual destination IP receiver address for highredundancy configurations, which means all signals are sent to a secondary address should theprimary become unavailable.
For more information on using theIP-DACT module from Fire-Lite,call the EM24 Sales Department at 1-800-800-3624.
