Chelsea 2007Of the nine large competition gardens at Chelsea 2007 Rock

Unique and Marmirocha provided stone for two of the seven

that used stone in their design. They won coveted gold and

Silver Gilt medals.

Andy Sturgeon used Molisol limestone to great effect for paths,

an open garden building, and stacked stone benches.

Diarmuird Gavin used Black and white Portuguese limestone in

a petal path laid by Portuguese craftsmen flown in for the task.

Rock Unique and Marmirocha are no strangers to the Chelsea

and Hampton Court competitions over the years.

Chelsea 2007Uma das nove grandes competições de jardinagem, em

Chelsea 2007, Rock Unique e a Marmirocha, forneceram pedra

para dois dos sete jardins que usaram pedra nas suas

construções. Ambos ganharam medalhas de ouro e prata, nas

respectivas categorias.

Andy Sturgeon usou Calcário Molisol para produzir grandes

efeitos nos seus passeios, um jardim ao ar livre, assim como

em bancos de pedra empilhada.

Por sua vez, Diarmuird Gavin usou calçada portuguesa nas

cores preta e branca, num desenho de pétalas assentes por

calceteiros portugueses que viajaram para esse fim.

Rock Unique e a Marmirocha, já não são desconhecidos no

meio dos shows de jardinagem, tendo fornecido pedra para

muitas competições em Chelsea ao longo dos anos.

From charcoal grey to black in colour black slate is striking

indoors or out. Black slate is soft and cool to the touch with a

riven surface reminiscent of handmade paper. Often used

around swimming pools or indoor wet areas riven slate offers

very good traction. Tiles only 1cm thick are available in sizes up

to 60x60cm (as used in the pool overleaf).

Also available in large slab at 25mm thickness (thicker by special

order) grey slate is often cut for hearths, vanity tops, table tops,

Mint SandstoneMint sandstone has light colours ranging from mint green and

yellow to darker brown with occassional fossil like mineral

markings. This very popular sandstone selected for colour and

graded into three closely related products. Yellow mint is

selected to be the lighter colours with yellow tones dominant.

Fossil mint is selected to have the greatest variation of colour

and a higher proportion of the 'fossil' markings. Regular mint is

the category in between with greater range of colour than the

Yellow mint but less than the fossil mint.

Mint Sandstone is available as paving, circles, copings, steps,

and indoor tiles.

Arenito MentaO Arenito menta, possui cores leves que oscilam entre o menta

verde e amarelo ao castanho escuro, com marcas fosseis

ocasionais como por exemplo veios minerais. Este popular

Granite CobblesBlue Grey granite (see over) are made from a fine grained

granite that splits very well resulting in somewhat flatter

surfaces than most other cleft granite cobbles. Other granite

cobbles in larger sizes (25cm x 15cm) must also be bush

hammered to achieve a suitably flat surface.

Other granite colours are available; black, silver grey, red, and

yellow all look fabulous, either on their own or mixed with other

colours. Granite cobbles offers the ultimate in hard wearing,

solidly coloured surfaces and are suitable for almost any use.

Granite cobbles are often used for paths and driveways, and as

borders for patios.

AtaijaAtaija Limestone is a dense lightly figured limestone with

some fossil detail. Both beige and blue Ataija are available,

often mixed in the same block. Tiles can be cut that also mix

the two colours for a very striking effect.

Honed tiles, like the huge beige one metre square tiles in the

photo (see over) provide a warm sophisticated densely

creamy beige backdrop in this Devon barn conversion.

Literally 50 tiles to cover 50 square metres!

Morisca Cream LimestoneThis hard limestone has a range of colours similar to English

Purbeck stone. Predominately Muted greens, yellows and

greys it has occasional flashes of red some veining that add life

and interest to any surroundings.

Standard sizes are limited to 28x28cm, 56x28cm, and 56x56cm.

By special order slightly larger sizes may be available. This

especially hard limestone is somewhat difficult to hand process

and this places practical limits on the sizes that are available.

Morisca Cream is a popular choice that will enhance any

outdoor area.

Oak SandstoneAs the name suggests this stone has tones of real oak timber.

Like the wood, oak sandstone also will grey to silvery tones over

several years.

Equally suitable for vertical surfaces as cladding or flat surfaces

as paving this material has a flat surface. It offers excellent

traction and is often used around swimming pools. Swimming

pool copings, wall copings, pillars, stone balls, and huge stone

pots are also available by special order in this interesting and

unique stone.

Blue Largo Lago Azul



Blue Largo Finely detailed this limestone has a pale creamy blue/grey

background to unusual, almost eggshell blue, features. Shell

fossils, occasionally quite large, can be seen in some tiles.

Brushed, or rustic, finishes suit this stone as well as honed and

highly polished finishes. A bathroom floor in a rustic finish

combined with a highly polished vanity top in the same stone is

but one way to exploit the beauty of this interesting and unique

stone.

Porphyry PavingPorphyry is a volcanic stone of rare beauty. Each flagstone has

two essential properties; firstly a body colour ranging from a

steel-grey to russet and even hints of violet, and secondly a

surface colour that ranges from the unadorned body colour of

the stone to a range of green and brown mineral deposits.

Sometimes fern-like silhouettes mark the stone like primordial

Plum SlateAlmost a chocolate brown but with a definite purple hues plum

slate is visually very appealling. Sometimes hints of green show

through adding interest and depth to this beautiful slate.

The colours work well with traditional architecture as readily as

the architecture of today.

It is difficult to find a brown stone with the density of colour

found in this slate, it is a remarkable and unique stone.

Plum slate tiles up to a metre square (or larger) are available in

2cm thickness.

Ardosia de cor RoxaQuase com uma cor de chocolate, mas com marcas de cor

roxa, esta Ardosia é visualmente muito apelativa. Por vezes

alguns veios de verde misturados adicionam interesse e

profundidade a esta magnifica Ardosia.

As cores funcionam bem com arquitecturas tradicionais assim

como combinadas com padrões mais recentes da arquitectura

moderna. É difícil encontrar uma pedra castanha com a

Porphyry ParquetPorphyry is a low porosity stone that offers excellent slip

resistance.

Cropped into parquet strips porphyry takes on a truly dramatic

look. Planking in stone enables the designer to inject strong

lines and provide directional cues to his or her audience.

This unique product was first introduced at Chelsea 2006 in the

Rock Unique and Barry Holdsworth bronze medal winning small

garden ‘Picture This’.

Poupori (tipo pedra polmes)Pourpori é uma pedra com pouca porosidade que oferece um

excelente antiderrapante.

Cortado em faixas tipo “parquet”, o pourpori tem um aspecto

verdadeiramente dramático.

Estando em faixas, permite ao designer projectar linhas

continuas bastante fortes e fornecer também linhas

direccionais para aquilo que realmente pretende.

Este produto único, foi primeiramente introduzido no Chelsea

Pool projectIn this project prophyry parquet, tumbled black granite cobbles,

bush-hammered black grainte, and bush-hammered silver grey

granite were used to great effect.

Bespoke pool coping, steps, unusual corner features, and

radiused paving were all produced to meet the owners exacting

requirements.

A fabulous use of stone in a beautiful setting!

the detail of the riven surface of the stone. This riven stone

Honed grey sandstone has a flat surface that reveals additional

detail in the stone. A favourite with designers honed grey

sandstone is becoming increasingly popular.
