National Issue: Healing Touch ( Universalizing access to quality primary healthcare)
JUICING
..a natural way to primary ‘health’care
..prevention as well as cure for diseases
..by the best doctor- The Nature!
Problems faced by India in this sector:
Access to healthcare providers.
Access to quality primary healthcare for everyone.
Lack of funding by Government.
Shortage of medical practitioners, staff, supply and medical centers.
Low ratio of hospital beds to people-9:10,000
Lifestyle issues causing long-term diseases.
As there is so much lack of funds, doctors, medical supplies, hospitals etc;
there is no quick and easy way to fulfill this need.
The only way is to lower the demand!
Where should we focus to solve the
problem? The answer lies in the statistics
below:-
(From India Today : India's no.1 killer: Heart disease)
Read more at: http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/India's+no.1+killer:+Heart+disease/1/92422.html
Cardiovascular Diseases
Respiratory Diseases
Tuberculosis
Malignant and other tumors
Ill-defined conditions
Digestive Diseases
Diarrheal Diseases
Unintentional Diseases
Intentional Self-harm
Malaria
The listed causes of deaths are majorly the ones which
come under the category of ‘Lifestyle diseases’.
Some More Facts:
‘Lifestyle' ailments such as diabetes, cardiac problems and cancer and are expected to cost India income losses of about $236 billion by 2015.(http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20442827)
Lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, which are usually associated with the urban populace, have now spread to rural and tribal areas.(TOI article : Lifestyle diseases now afflict tribals.)
According to the WHO's Department of Health Statistics and Informatics, by 2030, non-communicable conditions are expected to cause more than three-fourths of all deaths; almost one-third of all deaths will result from cancer, heart disease and traffic accidents. (http://www.indianexpress.com:-In-20-years-lifestyle-diseases-will-be-most-fatal)
In India, 10% of adults suffer from hypertension while the country is home to 25-30 million diabetics.
68% of working women in the age bracket of 21-52 years were found to be afflicted with lifestyle ailments such as obesity, depression, chronic backache, diabetes and hypertension
So, we learn that our lifestyle is the reason for a large percentage of diseases; and if we
can help lower this percentage, we actually lower the need of doctors, supply and
infrastructure.
This can be done by organizing the ‘Juicing’ sector in India. (Juicing is the process of extracting or making juice out of vegetables or fruits. )
Why Juicing?
First of all, we the Indians believe in natural remedies. And, belief is necessary to give something a start.
Then, of course juices being remedial in nature, are also healthy in general; and have no side-effects as other medicines or therapies.
The source is easily available and fresh in nature.
It protects from diseases and prevents several lifestyle ailments, which is the best part we can imagine, and can also cure diseases. As we know- ‘ Prevention is better than cure!’
General Benefits:-
lose or maintain weight
increase your energy levels.
strengthen your immune system
manage your blood pressure
improve your digestive system
regulate your blood sugar levels
fight existing cancers & could possible even prevent some cancers.
improve your cognitive functioning.
And Lots More…………….
Already there's a large demand for vegetable/fruit juices by people. But, the
problem faced by the consumers are:-
•Where to get the fresh vegetables/fruits from?
•Who will make it?
•How to make it? What are the best recipes or correct proportion?
•How to maintain the routine?
•I don’t have time!
Solution:
Organizing the juicing sector so as to fulfill the market demand as well as promote
healthy lifestyle and natural remedies for the less aware.
Recruiting household women in different areas and parts of the city, according to
the needs and logistics, to make juices. These women can be tutored in how-to’s of
juicing in weekly workshops. This way women may earn while working from their
home.
Lay a proper network to deliver juices to houses in time, according to the order.
Allow consumers to choose from different vegetable/fruit juices and order them
online through the website or over the telephones. In case of monthly
subscriptions of juices for a household, they can be fulfilled by the area milkmen,
saving in the delivery costs.

material cost and the juicers profits.)
* Transportation and home-delivery costs may be cut by increasing the juice prices marginally.
Future Prospects and Impact:
Though direct impact of this solution cannot be seen, due to the various scientific proofs available on the benefits of juices, we can still be sure of reducing the ailments of day to day life as well as aiding in curing several other diseases using this method.
While currently launching the Beta base of the startup in some areas(like the epicenter-NCR), it can soon be expanded widely to other areas of India.
Although we know that people are becoming more aware about juicing remedies and the demand is quite high, still to know the actual demands, a survey needs to be conducted at different levels of societies.
Regular feedbacks from the consumers can best tell the sustainability, success, scalability and needed improvements in the project.
