The annual track meet is this Friday, May 6. A rough schedule is attached to the back of this Chatter. This is the time of year that First Lutheran School hosts a track meet for us and the other Lutheran Schools in Oklahoma, and we have a fun day of competition and fellowship. ALL CLASSES SINGING AT FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH SUNDAY - MAY 8 for Mrs. Goll's retirement. The

Kindergarten to 8th grade will sing at 9:20 (for the end of the 8:30 service) and again at the beginning of the 11 a.m. service. Please join us for one or both services. (PK classes and younger will sing at the very beginning of the 11 a.m. service only so be at church by 10:50).

JANET GOLL'S RETIREMENT - After 44 years of serving First Lutheran School, Mrs. Goll has decided to retire. We hope that she will be able to assist us in a various capacity in the years to come, but she is officially retiring May 31st of this year. We are looking to celebrate her in the month to come, but if you would like to help financially towards a big gift, come by and send it to the school office by the end of this month. We (and she) will GREATLY appreciate it. (Besides money, we are also collecting letters from former/current parents/students that we can compile into a scrap book. Please consider getting us a letter or two to add to our collection.)

A "Potluck" lunch is being planned for Sunday - May 8 to celebrate Janet's Goll's 44 years of ministry at First Lutheran. The celebration will begin at noon in the School Cafeteria. Please consider providing food to share at the event. If you would like to say a few words, please contact Principal Birnbaum or send a message to be included in a scrap book for her. being collected now for a big gift instead of many small gifts. (Also, a cake & punch reception is being planned for Friday the 13th at 2:15 p.m.)

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER is May 5; please join us at 8:30 a.m. in the gym as a student(s) from each class will lead us in a prayer that they have written.

REPORT CARD PICKUP for 3-year olds and up will begin Friday, May 27. We will also have supply lists and school calendars for next school year available at this time. Remember to check your accounts; any past due balances, or money owed for missing library books or band shirts will be due before we can release the report cards.

SUMMER SKILLS WORKBOOKS: Studies show that much of what is learned during the

school year is lost over the summer months. Summer Skills Review Books provide students with a review of materials taught the previous year, and can give them an academic edge and self-confidence when they return to school in the fall. Workbooks available include math and language arts for students in grades PK-7th, Spanish 1 & 2 review, French 1 review, and pre-algebra, algebra 1, geometry, and high school math books. They even offer “Math for Life” books, if you want to brush up on your own skills! If you would like to see an example, or would like to order a workbook(s), stop by the school office or visit the website www.summerskills.com. They are $21 each, and orders are due to the school office by May 6.

MAGNETS: Have you seen the new First Lutheran Church & School magnet on cars in the parking lot yet? To get your own, stop by the office. They are $5 each, or 3 for $10.

SUMMER DAY CAMP is now full, and has started a wait-list. Please contact the school or daycare office if you would like to be placed on the wait-list.

MAYFEST is an fun/informational carnival-type event at Edwin Fair, 1500 N. 6th on May 5 from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the entire community, and they will have hot dogs, drinks, popcorn, snow cones, cotton candy, activities for kids, and much more.

GYM WALL IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT. Tired of seeing the old blue wall tile in the gym? A project is being started to improve the aesthetics of our gym walls. We are open to any ideas including painting, removing the blue tiles, putting up Cardinal-themed wall mats, changing the colors to Cardinal colors (red, black, white), changing the tile on the outside of the gym in the entrance way, etc. All of these ideas have different costs associated with them depending on which options are selected. If you feel called to make a donation to this project, please contact the school office. Your donation would be tax deductible. For questions or suggestions, contact Principal Birnbaum, Bruce Fuller (Property Chairman), or Tim Burden (School Board President).

GYM RESTROOM REMODEL - We are beginning the fundraising process to remodel the School gym restrooms. We would like to convert the two small restrooms on the South into one large girl’s restroom and the other two on the North to Boys only. The expected cost is $125,000. $7,500 has been given and will be matched by Phillips 66. If you, or a person or business you know could contribute, we would greatly appreciate it. (These are tax-deductible gifts.)

CAMPBELL’S SOUP LABELS FOR EDUCATION PROGRAM IS ENDING…We have until the end of this school year to finish collecting labels and get them sent in before the program is discontinued. If you have any Labels for Education, please cut off the rectangle like the picture to the right, and send it to school with your student. We can use these labels to purchase p.e./recess/classroom supplies for our school!

WHISPER, WHISPER" is a new 32 page picture book that was written by a pastor's wife in Blackwell. It is written to help 1 to 4 year old children participate quietly in church services. To view or order this book for $7.99, go to cph.org/marymoerbe.

PRINCIPAL - Mr. Birnbaum: Short & Sweet - "Getting married is as easy as falling off a bike. Staying married on the other hand...Let's just say YOU NEED JESUS!"

Thank you to all those who have donated financially or letters to Janet's gifts. We will continue to collect until the end of the School Year. Ten more days of School without Friday's track meet and the last day picnic. Time is running out.

LIBRARY – Mrs. Ware: It's May, and the end of the school year is fast approaching! Overdue books must be turned in by the last day of school. I will be sending notes home with students who still have items out after this week as a reminder.

Have a beautiful and blessed week.

- 3 - Growing up Into Jesus, Reaching Out with Jesus, Walking Together in Jesus

PRE-SCHOOL – Mrs. Herard: I am a little sad that it is May already and my time is almost over with this class. Although we have our good days and bad days, I love them very much and am not sure I am ready to part with them quite yet! I hope you can join us Wednesday as PS/PK students will be singing for chapel at 8:30 in the church. Very proud of how they are doing with the songs! They will sing again for the Sunday 11 o'clock service so be there by 10:50 and I will meet you at the back of the church. They are dismissed after singing but we welcome you to stay for the whole service. Friday is the track meet. Although our class doesn't participate, we walk over to watch a portion in the morning. The children may bring a dollar or so to buy a treat at the snack bar if they wish. We will do our last SHOW and TELL of the year before heading over. Our theme this week is "Pond Life" and our letter is "X". God bless your week!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN - Mrs. Kelly: Thank you to the parents that drove us to the Ponca City Library on Friday! It was a great visit, and we couldn't do these field trips without you! The auction was fun! Thanks to PTL and all of the parents that worked so hard to get it together! Thank you Christy Harland for making our Reading Tent! We are down to less than 3 weeks of PreK. We are working hard to be ready for Kindergarten. The kids did great singing in chapel this morning! Remember we will be singing on Sunday morning at the 11:00 service. Our last book order is due to me or online by Friday. This is a great way to stock up on books for the summer and help our class get some new books or games. Thank you to the parents who have ordered this year! Our last Show and Tell will be on Friday, before we go to the track meet. We would love you to walk over with us and help us cheer on our friends! Remember we will buy snacks at the concession stand. Please send two dollars by Friday. Our last field trip is May 13th. The permission slip with payment for you and your child is due to me this Friday. Our Bible words this week are, “Go...and make disciples of all nations”, Matthew 28:19 We are learning our last letter and sound "Q" this week. Have a blessed week, and a Happy Mother’s Day!

PRE-KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Flaherty: With this being the last month of school we have a lot going on. THURSDAY- National Day of Prayer meeting in the gym at 8:30 FRIDAY- last show n share for the year, Track Meet in the morning, and also book orders are due. Bible Words "Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you." Psalm 50:15

KINDERGARTEN – Mrs. Miller: Wow, the days are going by fast! We don't have any birthdays in May but if your child has a summer birthday and they want to bring special treats for the class to celebrate their birthday, please see me about a day that would work. Also, if anyone wants a parent/teacher conference before the end of school please see me. We are still working hard on our reading, math, and other subjects until the end of school. This Friday is our last show and tell. Parents please keep working on your child's homework folders, thank you. Have a magnificent week!

FIRST GRADE – Mrs. Birnbaum: Friday is the Track Meet. Your child may wear their track shirt or a red shirt. Please apply sun lotion before coming to school. Send money with your child for lunch at the concession stand, bring your own lunch, or sign up for school lunch (which will be a PB/J sandwich). I have one parent so far to help out with the boys, let me know if you can help with the girls. Field trip forms and money are due tomorrow - please get those turned in! We will have our last memory next Friday which is the 10th commandment. It is longer so make sure that you are working on it at home also. Remember that our class is singing at First Lutheran Church on Sunday at 9:20 (for the end of the 8:30 service) and again at the beginning of the 11 a.m. service. Happy birthday to Isabella on Thursday and to Jagger on Sunday! Hope to see you at the Track Meet on Friday!

SECOND GRADE – Mrs. Powell: Happy May! We are so close to being finished and we're very excited. Thank you so much to all of the parents and grandparents who joined us for our visit to Leonardo's on Monday. The children had a blast and were very well behaved. Our track meet day is this Friday. You may want to slather your child with sunscreen and send money for snacks and lunch. Or, better yet, join us for the day. We wish a happy May birthday to Gavin, Adysan, and Mrs. Goll. God's Blessings, Dear Friends. Mrs. Patterson is graduating on Saturday and Friday will be her last day at FLS. We've loved sharing our days with her and we will miss her. Happy Mother's Day!

We will take our regular tests on Friday before the track meet. Please continue to bring in Class Auction items. The Auction will be the last week of school, and the Cardinal Bucks continued to be earned. The auction could not happen without you.

FIFTH GRADE - Mrs. Schatte: Thanks to all parents that drove or accompanied us on our field trip Monday. Even though it was a bit cold and windy, we still had fun just being together outside of school. Remember...Friday is our track meet. That day is always a lot of fun! Mrs. Goll: Thanks, Mr. Powell, for subbing for me when I was under the weather the past two days. We're all looking forward to the track meet on Friday. It's one of our most fun days of the year. Our math classes are continuing to work on surface area and volume of polyhedra; and binomial and polynomial operations. The school year is winding down quickly. Let's finish strong.

Mrs. Harbeson: Greetings! Just about 2 weeks are left in our school year! I know the kids are eagerly anticipating summer break...(I know a few teachers who are feeling the same!) With that being said, I encourage all of us to keep working. Keep studying for your tests; keep paying attention in class; keep doing assignments and handing them in on time! I also want to thank all of our 8th grade parents who accompanied us to Stilly last week for our OSU campus tour. It was a beautiful day, and we had a great time! College reports for all 8th graders are due next Monday, May 9. I hope to see you all at the track meet on Friday! Stop by the concession stand for snacks and lunch, and help support our 7th grade fundraiser. Blessings on your week!

Mrs. Hanson: Track meet THIS FRIDAY! If you are a 7th grade parent or student and would like to raise money for D.C., please go sign up to work the track meet concession stand. The sign-up sheet is on my website. 7th grade girls need to bring cooked taco meat, 1 pkg hotdogs, and a bag of shredded cheese by Wednesday. 7th grade boys need to bring a case of water, a bag of individual variety pack of chips, and 1 pkg hotdog buns.

All grades will have a vocabulary quiz this Thursday instead of Friday due to the track meet. All grades will also have a comprehensive final May 18th. We will review plenty in class, but studying will need to be done at home as well.

Mr. Covert: We’ve reached the month of May, and we’re in the final three weeks of school. We’re doing our best to get through the material we need to cover by the end of the year.

In 8th grade, we’re covering the 20’s and 30’s as quickly as possible so we can get through World War II and the effects it had on our world before the end of the year. 7th grade is wrapping up South Asia, and we’ll get through Central Asia and Southwest Asia after that. In 6th grade, we’re working our way through the Renaissance and Reformation.

- 5 - Growing up Into Jesus, Reaching Out with Jesus, Walking Together in Jesus

7th grade parents, I need your DC information forms as soon as possible. It doesn’t matter if you send it to school with your student or bring it yourself, but the sooner I have them the better, and I will definitely need them by the end of the school year.

I pray God continues to bless this school and everyone who makes up the First Lutheran family this week!
