APRIL 2018 Chats News Where does Chats fit in the My Aged Care System? As the Royal Commission into aged care continues I thought we would look at where Chats fits in this system. Chats is mainly funded through the Federal government Community Home Support Program which is designed to assist older Australians who need entry level support to live independently in their own homes. This entry level support is for individuals who are independent and whose needs do not require the specialist services provided by the Home Care Packages. We are working towards ensuring that all participants have been referred to Chats through My Aged Care. If you are receiving services please note that you have not automatically been referred to Chats. You may need to contact them and check that they have referred you to Chats; otherwise you may not be eligible to stay in the program. Currently, we have 35 long term participants that are not connected to Chats through My Aged Care. We recommend that you contact the office to check if you fall into this group. As people’s needs change they may need more complex services which are available through Aged Care Packages. These packages might not cover Chats but they will cover other, more suitable programs and will better meet your needs. This package program is part of the Australian Government’s continuum of care for older Australians and is positioned between Residential aged care and the Commonwealth Home Support Program. Under the Aged Care Act 1997, the Australian Government provides a subsidy to an approved provider of home care to coordinate a package of care services and case management to meet the individual needs of older Australians. Individuals are assessed by a professional assessor and each individual’s priority for care is determined. We understand that the My Aged Care system is complex but if you are unsure and need advice you can call them on 1800 200 422 or COTA Tasmania on 6231 3265. Of course anyone in the office will also do their best to help you. On behalf of everyone on the team - thank you. ~ Andrew The Chats Office Number: 6282 1555 For weekend and aſterhours transport emergencies call 0447 893 081 (please note that this phone is only manned when an acvity is running) Chats Office: Level 5, Quay Building, 31 Cambridge Rd, Bellerive JUNE 2019 “Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.” ~C.S. Where does Chats fit in the My Aged Care System? As the Royal Commission into aged care continues I thought we would look at where Chats fits in this system. Chats is mainly funded through the Federal government Community Home Support Program which is designed to assist older Australians who need entry level support to live independently in their own homes.

This entry level support is for individuals who are independent and whose needs do not require the specialist services provided by the Home Care Packages.

We are working towards ensuring that all participants have been referred to Chats through My Aged Care. If you are receiving services please note that

you have not automatically been referred to Chats.

~ Andrew
