Pink Panther
It was lovely to see the children’s faces, and big
smiles. We are very proud of them. We have been making the most of
our wonderful outdoor areas we are so lucky to have here in school: we have been on mini-beast hunts and
have tried worm charming. Most importantly, we have been having
lots of fun - turns out, we are never too old for hide & seek
and mud cakes!
Purple Bubble
This week the purple
bubble have learnt to wash our
hands and sit at our desks, we've
explored the different forest school
areas, where we found a frog!
Purple bubble have also completed
maths and science activities using
different types of sweets and
designed our own aliens and
rockets. Well done
everyone!
Blue Bubble
We have had an excellent start to the term. We have
enjoyed making new friends, playing in the forest school area daily and recapping place value in maths.
Most of our learning has been inspired by 'Lost and Found' by Oliver
Jeffers. We have researched penguins, written diary entries,
poems and so much more!
Green Bubble
Green bubble have settled in well and have enjoyed pond
dipping this week. We have been on bug hunts outdoors and really
enjoyed ourselves. In English, we have described our own exciting
alien and in maths we have looked at tens and
ones.
Yellow Bubble
This week we have been getting used to being back at
school, we have done so well with hand washing and remembering to
social distance. Our theme this week has been yellow, each day we have learnt about a different yellow
thing such as where do bananas come from? We have really
enjoyed being back at school!
Silver Bubble
We have had a very busy week in maths, we sang songs
to help us learn how to count in 2s and 10s and we shared sweets in groups. We have loved our daily Forest School adventures. We
played in the mud kitchen and left a Hansel & Gretel trail of breadcrumbs.
We were amazed to find the birds had eaten all the bread and we couldn't follow the trail back to
school - just like Hansel and Gretel!
Black Bubble
Black Bubble have been looking at the sound collector
poem in English. We have also been learning all about the different
types of angle in maths. Black Bubble have loved their time outside during their forest school sessions. We also enjoyed pond dipping and have been
excited by finding new animals in the school
pond.
Dark Green Bubble
We have been writing a non-chronological report about a mini-beasts inspired by the mini-beast
hunt we carried out last week. Dark Green Bubble have been looking
around the pond and mud kitchen, in order to find mini-beasts and classify them. Today we went
outside for worm charming to try and get the worms to come to
the surface as part of our science experiment.
White Bubble
White bubble have been amazing this week! They have
settled in at their new desks really well and have found out about
bubbles and the importance of hand washing. White Bubble read ‘You
Can’t Eat a Princess!’ and designed their own aliens. We have also
been making our very own white rabbits and have been singing our
very special white bubble song.
Gold Bubble
In Maths we have been learning about percentages and
were shocked to discover cinemas mark-up popcorn by 90%! We have made model ants, worry dolls and paper houses. Gold bubble has a
general knowledge quiz challenge, did you know, that shooting stars are
actually meteors? The children are really enjoying their learning and we are very proud of their sensible and
mature attitude to the current changes, Gold is a great
place to be!
Reminder
Please can we remind all parents that children must not be sent to school if they are displaying any of the symptoms associated with coronavirus. These are:
high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.
Many thanks for your cooperation with this.
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back!
Last week on Wednesday we opened our doors to children from Year 6, and this week on Monday some of our Parrot and Toucan children returned to school. The children have returned with smiles on their faces and have followed the changes in school really well. As you know we have also remained open since 23rd March for children from key worker families, and they too have been a credit to their families, in what we know has been a very challenging time.
Staffing
I would like to welcome our new School Business Manager, Mrs Sam Sage, who joined the Chartham and St Stephen’s Infants teams at the beginning of June. Mrs Sage comes to with us with a wealth of school business experience, having worked at several primary schools in Kent. We also have two new teachers joining us in September; Mrs Hidayat-Brown and Miss Goulding.
Bubbles and home learning
Every child in school has been allocated a bubble – see the bubble news on the first page! These bubbles have an allocated lead teacher and teaching assistant. As the numbers of children attending is increasing, this has required more staff to lead bubbles and therefore class teachers may be responding at different times to any home learning queries. We do however have some teachers overseeing the home learning to ensure this provision remains strong.
Remember, we love seeing what you have been doing at home so please upload examples onto Tapestry – we are including some examples of home learning in this newsletter too.
The staff in each bubble are as follows:
o Silver bubble: Mrs Marfleet & Mrs Tuff o White bubble: Miss Munro & Miss Marshall o Purple bubble: Mr Woollcott & Miss Smith o Yellow bubble: Mrs Crawley & Miss Hair o Green bubble: Mr Andrews & Miss Brice o Blue bubble: Miss Bransfield, Mrs Whitehead/ Miss Holness o Black bubble: Miss Smith & Mrs Pitchacaren o Gold bubble: Mrs Reeve/Mrs Bennett & Mrs Benson o Pink bubble: Miss Holden & Mrs Pattison/Miss Groves o Red bubble: Miss Copeman & Mrs Casey o Dark green bubble: Miss Foster & Miss Maple o Orange bubble: Mr Cheetham/Miss Ward & Mrs Keeler Transition
This time of year we all begin to think about September and new classes. At present, we do not know what school may need to look like in September but we want to reassure you that the transition for all children is a priority for us. We understand this can be very exciting for some children, but also recognise that for some it can be an anxious time of year. We will be informing you of your child’s class teacher in July and also provide you with a written report before the end of term. If you have any concerns about transition or next academic year, please contact Janine Morgan (FLO).
Emma Ribbans Head of School
Emily from Ladybird, Albie from Grasshopper, Noah from Dragonfly, Indi from Leopard and Neave from Tiger have all worked hard to achieve their target times on Nessy. Joshua and Freddie from Parrot, Charlie from Toucan, Alexandra and Barnaby from Bumblebee, Teddy from Ladybird, Connor and Leo from Dragonfly and Bobby from Grasshopper have made super efforts with their phonics and reading at home - Persevering, reading to friends and relatives on Zoom and writing book reviews. Rhys, Isaac and Rosie from Parrot along with Charlie from Dragonfly have been really creative when continuing to learn their tricky words. Leo from Dragonfly is regularly keeping us updated about his home learning and
undertaking some of his brother’s tasks as well as his own. 😊
Sophia from Toucan has been very busy at home and has been practising her beautiful
handwriting! We are very proud of her phonics work, well done Sophia!
Mollie from Parrot has drawn this beautiful flower and labelled it. She then went on to learn
about the function of each part of the flower! Wow!
Alexandra from Bumblebee has been very busy and has even created her own
experiment! She froze water in a glove and wanted to see what would happen if you added
sugar and salt...can you guess what happened? Well done, Alexandra 😊
A massive well done to Louisa from Jaguar and Arthur from Leopard who have gone over
and above everyday with their home learning.
