Why there is a need

to develop a new

generation of

leaders?

Because of…• Mistrust• Dissapointment

e.g. hunger, not receiving Basic education, environtment disaster, terrorism, disease, self-interest political, drug abuse, alcohol, bullying, war

Are there any left for leadership??

HOPE

A new generation of leaders can help transform the way we

live, the way we work, and the way the world operates.

Why teacher??

A teacher who is genuinely passionate about teaching a subject will also be on a journey of learning and discovery. Not just about the subject to be taught but a journey of learning about themselves and how they can use their whole being to make a difference.

The role of schools and

education in developing

this neglected and

often misunderstood

talent

Why school??

“In school, a collection of youngsters come together for a certain number of hours each day; the students are expected to be civil to one another, to heed the dominant adult figure(s), and to sit still for relatively long periods of time so that they can master materials whose application to their daily lives seems obscure” (Gardner, H)

“There are five or ten others with the same potential for leadership who have never led or perhaps even considered leading”

John Gardner

How??

Childhood and leadership role models

In the past, research has focused primarily on the traits that individuals associate with the world ‘leader’. These may be positive or negative

Things to be considered..

• Parental models

• Early experiences of school

• Society

• figures

• The word ‘leader’

comes from the Old

English word laed

meaning path or

journey.

LEADERSHIP

AUTHENTICITY

INTEGRITY

COURAGE

SELF-KNOWLEDGE

CHALLENGERESPONSIBILITY

“ Leadership is the authentic expression of individuals at their best, when engaged with others achieving a

common purpose that is more than goal setting”

Hilarie Owen

“Leadership is not just the behavior of a single

individual, but rather, is characterized by a

collaborative relationship between the individual

and those they are leading.

CONCLUSIONS (Owen)# 1 Every single human being

has some leadership potential

# 2 No two people express leadership in the same way

# 3 We will not become the leader we are capable of being just attending a leadership course

# 4 To have leadership expressed throughout a school or any organization, more democratic, all take responsibility

THANK YOU…
