Channel 4 Examples of documentaries featured on Channel 4 and similar channels including E4: First Dates Married at first sight Gogglebox Body Fixers Naked Attraction Your Face Says It All Big Fat Gypsy Weddings Body Shockers: Nips Tucks and Tattoos How to Look Good Naked These examples of documentary are of a similar genre to the documentary which we are creating as a group based on plastic surgery due to the focus of how people look and their confidence levels in these specific areas, meaning as documentaries focusing around dating and fixing something based on someone’s body would imply they will have a similar target audience to ours which are white girls aged around 16 to their mid-30’s. Therefore due to channel 4 and other channels hosting similar documentaries it would be an ideal time for us to advertise our documentary as our target audience would be interested in what our documentary is about but also as they are already fans of certain documentaries featured on Channel 4, 5 or E4 it could potentially show how channel 4 have the recognition and the target audience already meaning they could watch the majority of documentaries based around the specific topic revolving around body image. ITV ITV include documentaries include more of an older target audience which would not suit our documentary. They have documentaries such as Cake wars, Bridezillas and Charles: The Destiny of a Prince. These would not really interest our target audience so it wouldn’t be the best channel to use. ITV have advertisements so it would be good to advertise our documentary between shows, however our genre of documentary doesn’t suit the current ITV documentary’s. Even though they have various channels such as ITV 2, ITV Be, ITV 3 and ITV 4 they still would not be the best channel as they don’t target our specific audience. More examples of documentaries on the ITV channels include: Ibiza Weekender The Jeremy Kyle Show

Channel 4

Examples of documentaries featured on Channel 4 and similar channels including E4:

First Dates Married at first sight Gogglebox Body Fixers Naked Attraction Your Face Says It All Big Fat Gypsy Weddings Body Shockers: Nips Tucks and Tattoos How to Look Good Naked

These examples of documentary are of a similar genre to the documentary which we are creating as a group based on plastic surgery due to the focus of how people look and their confidence levels in these specific areas, meaning as documentaries focusing around dating and fixing something based on someone’s body would imply they will have a similar target audience to ours which are white girls aged around 16 to their mid-30’s.

ITV

ITV include documentaries include more of an older target audience which would not suit our documentary. Even though they have various channels such as ITV 2, ITV Be, ITV 3 and ITV 4 they still would not be the best channel as they don’t target our specific audience.More examples of documentaries on the ITV channels include:

Ibiza Weekender The Jeremy Kyle Show Me and my guide dog The Only Way is Essex

This shows how varied the documentaries available on ITV are; meaning it doesn’t always have our targeted audience watching meaning it wouldn.t be the best time to market our documentary as the best times to watch it will be later at night when programmes like TOWIE limiting the available times when we can advertise our documentary.

BBC

Examples of documentaries available on BBC are: Planet Earth Panorama Transgender Love No Body’s perfect with Rankin and Alison Lapper

All the documentaries available on the BBC channels are varied and mostly focused on providing what they believe is news to their target audience suiting the older generation a lot more than the target audience our documentary is aiming towards. Also as BBC don’t have advert breaks between the programmes shown the target audience are more than likely to either change the channel if they are only watching a certain tv programme available- meaning the small marketing time they have between programmes is limited and won’t always have people watching or interested implying our documentary won’t get as much recognition like it would on either Channel 4 or ITV.
