This year’s 20th anniversary event marks my 26th LIVESTRONG ride, a series spanning Austin, Philly, Seattle, New York City and Iowa. As a LIVESTRONG Leader, I’ve had countless opportuni-ties to volunteer alongside my closest friends around the world. I’ve been part of events from the Columbus LIVESTRONG Summit, a conference to empower cancer survivors, to my own community LIVESTRONG Day con-certs, to advocacy on Capitol Hill. I’ve cheered as superheroes completed mara-thons and conquered mountains, and I’ve relied on their superpowers of friendship and compassion.

When multiple myeloma struck my wife, Judy, in 2013, we drew tremendous sup-port from LIVESTRONG Navigation and friends in Austin and beyond. And when our four children and I lost her to the disease just three months into treatment, we grieved together as extended family. It’s some comfort to have established the Joy Family Fund in her memory and to have our tribute tiles mounted side by side at LIVESTRONG HQ.

This February, I was honored to join LIVESTRONG staff at the White House for a meeting on Vice President Biden’s National Cancer Moonshot initiative. I shared how cancer affected my family and how LIVESTRONG helped us.

As deeply as I hope for a world without cancer, I give thanks that my world has LIVESTRONG and its community of cancer survivors and advocates in it. Your continued support of this wonderful or-ganization has made it possible for them to support me—and so many other survi-vors like me—in more ways than one.

With gratitude,

Scott JoyLIVESTRONG Senior Leader,

Cancer Survivor and Caregiver

For 13 years LIVESTRONG has been by my side — from my testicular cancer diagnosis in 2003, through my recurrence two years later, to life after cancer today.”

THANK YOU!

2015 SNAPSHOT:

LIVESTRONG ’s mission is to improve the lives of people affected by cancer now. Since 1997, we’ve helped more than 3.5 million cancer patients, survivors and caregivers with their practical, physical and emotional needs through our free cancer support services. Their voices help shape our programs and partnerships. At LIVESTRONG, we believe that the patient comes first, and our community of brave survivors, advocates and partners fight to transform how cancer care is delivered.

OUR MISSIONIndividuals, Communities and Systems

THE IMPACT OF YOUR GENEROSITY

“With the number of cancer survivors growing year by year, our services are more important than ever. It is not only essential that we continue offering personalized support to the individual fighting this dreadful disease, but it’s also vital that we continue building communities and changing systems of cancer care to better cater to survivors and their needs.”

—Greg Lee, President

In November of 2013, my life changed forever: At 30 years of age, I was diag-nosed with stage 3B ovarian cancer. I did chemotherapy and had a full hysterectomy. Though my husband was incredibly sup-

portive, I felt alone and lost after my treat-ment. I knew I needed to talk to someone.

My husband and I are cyclists, and our friends in the cycling community told us about LIVESTRONG. I was familiar with the organization and the work they do for cancer survivors, so I gave them a call to see how they could help. My navigator immediately sent me a LIVESTRONG Guidebook, which helped me keep track of my appointments, and told me about cancer support groups in my area. My

navigator also began checking on me weekly, seeing if I had any questions or concerns; I was so happy to just have someone to talk and to have someone check on my emotional stability. I even

joined LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a pro-gram that helps get cancer survivors back on their feet after treatment. It helped improve my strength and energy levels.

I’m now cancer free and very thankful for LIVESTRONG’s Navigation Services. Because of the support LIVESTRONG gave me, I’m an advocate in the cancer community. Not only do I participate and fundraise for their events, I also raise awareness through social media and by sharing their literature in the community.

Our priority has always been the person, not the disease. We understand that cancer doesn’t just affect the body, but also affects the mind and heart of everyone touched by it, including caregivers and families.

How can we make life just a little bit easier for cancer survivors and their loved ones during one of the most difficult periods of their lives? LIVESTRONG Cancer Navigation is designed to embrace survivors and support them with person-centered services that address their physical, emotional and practical concerns. Our navigators are ready to address the day-to-day challenges individuals face so they don’t feel alone during their cancer journey.

Through our free, personal and con-fidential navigation services, we offer

support in areas such as understanding treatment options, accessing emotion-al support, managing insurance and medical expenses, fertility preservation and accessing clinical trials. We also offer the LIVESTRONG Guidebook and Journal, a two-piece resource that helps survivors understand their treatment options, store medical notes or records and anticipate next steps.

If you or anyone you know has been affected by cancer, please call us at 1-855-220-7777 or visit us at livestrong.org/cancersupport to see how we can help you today.

I’ll never forget that day the doctor came into my room and said, “You have cancer.” I was really healthy, I was a vegetarian, I did yoga, I ran. I just couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I was in shock.

My treatment for colon cancer became re-ally complicated, and at one point, I wasn’t sure I was going to make it. It was a very difficult time for me and my family. One thing that really helped us was discovering LIVESTRONG and their LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA exceeded any expectations I had. Being in a group

with other people who had cancer and had gone through the same challenges was so helpful. The trainers were knowl-edgeable and inspiring, and the exercise itself helped me recover. At some point

during the program, I realized I wasn’t tired anymore. I started to feel normal. My chemo became much easier to handle, and the exhaustion that I had once expe-rienced all but disappeared.

I highly recommend the program for cancer survivors wanting to get back on their feet. I’m grateful for what LIVESTRONG at the YMCA gave me.

Bringing LIVESTRONG to communities across the nation is one of our top priorities. Since 2007, we have partnered with the YMCA of the USA to promote the importance of physical activity after a cancer diagno-sis and to make LIVESTRONG at the YMCA easily accessible through the Y’s national network. This 12-week program, offered at little to no cost, is designed to empower survivors and improve their muscle mass, strength, energy levels and quality of life. To see if LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is available in your area, please go to www.livestrongymca.org.

The LIVESTRONG Cancer Institutes of the Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin has a simple yet pow-erful mission: to rethink the full range of cancer care, from prevention to diagnosis, treatment to survivorship — all with a focus on the patient’s needs, values and preferences. This mission includes patient input in the design of cancer treatment, education and research.

Decades of research and working one-on-one with cancer survivors has given LIVESTRONG an informed understand-ing of some of the largest challenges cancer patients face: chronic pain, loss of fertility, emotional stress, family instabil-ity, career impact and long-term financial hardships. We are bringing this knowledge

and experience to the LIVESTRONG Cancer Institutes.

Our goal for the LIVESTRONG Cancer In-stitutes is to create comprehensive models of care that put survivors’ needs above all else, from the clinical to the emotional to the practical. The Austin community will serve as a local incubator for these new models. After such models are tested and implemented in Austin, they can be scaled for use throughout the state and country, ensuring access to high-quality care for all people affected by cancer nationwide.

In other words, the LIVESTRONG Cancer Institutes will revolutionize patient care and radically improve treatment outcomes and quality of life for cancer survivors.

LEADING SYSTEM CHANGELIVESTRONG Cancer Institutes

“The LIVESTRONG Foundation has been incredibly innovative in supporting the whole patient and survivor, and this is exactly what we want to support at the Dell Medical School through education, care and research. Through our partnership, we both recognize the tremendous opportunity to improve the lives of those we touch and to create new models of care that create better outcomes and experiences for patients and their families,”

THE PRESIDENT 'S CIRCLE

The President’s Circle is a unique giving society that capitalizes on LIVESTRONG ’s mission-focused opportunities. Members of the President’s Circle give unrestricted “venture funds” which will be targeted at opportunities where other funding is not always readily available. Unrestricted gifts, which may be used at the discretion of the president, are especially effective in helping to promote our mission.

26 L I V E S T R O N G F O U N D A T I O N | 2015 Annual Report We believe in life. Your life. We believe in living every minute of it with every ounce of your being. And that you must not let cancer take control of it. We believe in energy: channeled and fierce. We believe in focus: getting smart and living strong. Unity is strength. Knowledge is power. Attitude is everything. This is LIVESTRONG. We kick in the moment you’re diagnosed. We help you accept the tears. Acknowledge the rage. We believe in your right to live without pain. We believe in information. Not pity. And in straight, open talk about cancer. With husbands, wives and partners. With kids, friends and neighbors. Your healthcare team. Like finding the nerve to ask for a second opinion. And a third, or a fourth, if that’s what it takes. We’re about preventing cancer. Finding it early. Getting smart about clinical trials. And if it comes to it, being in control of how your life ends. It’s your life. You will have it your way. We’re about the practical stuff. Planning for surviving. Banking your sperm. Preserving your fertility. Organizing your finances. Dealing with hospitals, specialists, insurance companies and employers. It’s knowing your rights. It’s your life. Take no prisoners. We’re about the fight. We’re your advocate before policymakers. Your champion within the health care system. Your sponsor in the research labs. And we know the fight never ends. Cancer may leave your body, but it never leaves your life. We believe in life. You Make it Possible.

Thank you for your continued support of the work we do for cancer survivors and their loved ones.

Because of you, we were able to help Scott navigate the uncharted waters of two cancer diagnoses and the loss of his beloved wife, Judy.

Because of you, we were able to help Lara get the emotional support she needed for one of the scariest battles of her life.

Because of you, we were able to help Genny get back on her feet after emotionally and physically debilitating treatment.

You make this all possible. Your commitment to LIVESTRONG is more importantly a commitment to cancer survivors everywhere.

We are energized, inspired and excited by what the future holds for LIVESTRONG. As we continue our important work helping individuals through our LIVESTRONG Navigation Services, we also look forward to expanding and building engaged communities across the nation with our LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program, and by creating system changes in cancer

care with both our advocacy work and the creation of the LIVESTRONG Cancer Institutes of the Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin.

Our vision for 2016 and beyond is that people living with cancer have everything they need throughout their journey. We want individuals and communities to have best-in-class programs and services that meaningfully improve their cancer experience. We are about the person, not the disease. Always have been, always will be.

Thank you again for your support.

Yours in the fight,

Candice Aaron Chairman of the Board, LIVESTRONG
