The Chandler Spiritline qualified for the AIA State Competition in every division. The completion will be held in Prescott in February. This the first time Chan-dler has qualified in all three divisions!

Congratulations to Cathy Culver and Katricia Jarrett for winning an $1,800 grant for SRP for the project Exploring Solar Energy as an Alternative Energy Source. The project will allow AP Environ-mental students and AP/IB Physics students to work together over the course of the year to explore how to calculate, convert, and measure the energy from the sun into photovoltaic cells. The students will then apply this knowledge in a team challenge were they will design, build, and race a vehicle powered only by sunlight. Students from the CHS Art Department will create artwork for display in downtown Chandler; the theme for the work is Mardi Gras and the work will be dis-played in shop windows during the months of January and February to promote Chandler's second annual Mardi Gras celebration. FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America), along with the students of Chandler High School raised $1127 for Trick or Treat for Unicef. They also donated 20 turkeys to the Chandler CARE center for needy families.

The Chandler High School Speech and Debate Team recently brought home 1st and 2nd place tro-phies in Varsity Lincoln-Douglas Debate at the Dob-son High School Tournament. The team also had two teams win 2nd place in two separate Congress houses, a 1st place in Novice Public Forum Debate and the Novice Policy team made it all the way to the quarter-finals. On Veteran’s Day, while other students were relax-ing, the Chandler High Hiking Club was busy hik-ing the Grand Canyon. Club sponsors Carol Gould, Jennifer Crozier, and Ron Tanner joined 16 stu-dents, and parent volunteer, Mrs. Hatch on the 17 mile hike into the canyon. The hikers made it back and out all in the same day. Ten sophomore AVID students have been selected to attend ASU's Leadership Day in January. The theme will be "Today Determines Tomorrow" and will feature break out sessions focusing on both leader-ship and college readiness. Senor Gray has been invited to lead the ASU whole group in team building, and sponsor Renee Howell will be meeting with other AVID advisors throughout the state during that time as well. Twenty five students from the CHS Theater De-partment attended the State Theatre Festval. Three seniors, Simon Ridley, Silvia Vannoy and Heather Meza auditioned for 16 universities and community colleges. The advanced class performed a one act play and were awarded The Jerome McDonough Award for the most outstanding one-act performed at the Festival. Our ITS Troupe, 1706, earned a silver Honor Troupe Plaque. The CHS varsity football team and IB/AP students were of great help at the Chandler CARE Center Thanksgiving Assistance Day. The football team helped families carry the donated turkeys and food to their vehicles, while the IB/AP students ran a fun and spirited art table for six straight hours to keep the children occupied while their parents waited in line.
