Melbourne was rated perfect scores for infrastructure, healthcare and education in the latest Economist Intelligence Unit liveability survey. The city is well known for its cultural diversity: 45 per cent of people in Melbourne were born overseas with more than 150 different languages spoken in the state of Victoria. Other notable universities in Melbourne include the Royal Melbourne In-stitute of Technology, La Trobe University, and Swinburne University, which have all been highly ranked in top university ranking sys-tems.

ShoppingMelbourne is widely known for having a wide variety of shopping districts, from shopping malls, to swap markets, to bargain stores.

Queen Victoria Market is a gigantic swap market in the heart of the CBD. It Is one of the largest in the world and it is impossible to go through the entire market in one day. The market has not only got fresh vegetable, fruits, poultry and meat, but clothes, shoes, acces-sories, and even pets!

Bourke Street Mall is not really a “mall” in the sense of the word, but it is a pedestrian and Trams-only street filled with stores and two of the largest department store chains in Aus-tralia, Myer and David Jones. Chambers In-stitute is located right on Bourke Street Mall.

Chapel St is famous for its miles and miles’ long of stores, with a variety of low and high-end stores. People usually start at one end of Chapel Street, and spend the day walking to its other end. The stores along this street seem endless.

Chadstone Shopping Centre is the largest shopping complex or mall in Australia, located about an hour away from the city. Melbourne Central on Lonsdale and Swanston Streets is the midtown alternative to this.

The Student Support Services run a number of activities for Chambers students. All activi-ties for students are advertised in the notice board and communicated to students via e-mail.

The Student Support Services also organise a range of day and overnight trips to popular Melbourne destinations including the Melbourne Zoo, Melbourne Museum, Aquarium, Mel-bourne Old Gaol, and other attractions around the city area. Regular sports activities on weekends and occasional trips to Australian Rules Football matches, out-of-town trips to coastal areas during summer and snow sites during winter season are also on the agenda.

Our teachers are all experienced with degree and TESOL qualifications, and are up to date with the latest teaching techniques as their enrolment in professional development programs are mandatory. Some of our teachers are qualified IELTS examiners.

Chambers Institute is proud to have students from a wide variety of countries. We believe this will be very beneficial for students, as exposure to different types of cultural backgrounds will add to their unique life experiences and international education. During their time with us, students will not only learn English, but also learn about other cultures and countries.

Students are assessed on a regular basis to ensure they are making ongoing progress and moving up to the next level of proficiency. Students can be promoted after each module. As-sessments methods include tests, assignments, oral presentations, discussion, role play and teacher observation.

I like Chambers Institute because the students and staff are very respectful and nice. I feel that Chambers really look after the students and their experience in Melbourne. They do little special things like the coffee or tea and cookies in the morning, Yogalates class, cultural activities, extra classes in the afternoon, and a friendly smile to greet you when you arrive. Benefits of this course

This program will help students to develop fluency and confidence in dealing with everyday situations. It is flexible and can cater to the individual academic needs of students. We give students the opportunity to use English in meaningful tasks through interactions with classmates and their teachers.

Course content

Listening, reading, writing and speaking are developed through various engaging tasks and activities. A wide range of resources including textbooks, authentic texts, audio and audio-visual materials are used. Grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation tasks are tailored according to students’ needs at each level of proficiency. We encourage students to learn Australian culture firsthand through exposure to the local culture and cultural events, reading Australian texts, watching Australian TV shows, and listening to Australian radio programs.

Students’ progress

Students’ progress is regularly monitored by teachers. Successful learners usually progress to the next level of proficiency after 12 weeks of the course. We strongly encourage students to take responsibility for reviewing the lessons covered in class and to ask for help from their teachers at any time.

Course outcomes

The General English course is a topic based which helps make learning more interactive and practical to everyday situations. By the end of the course, successful students will have improved their listening, reading, writing and speaking skills.

English for Academic Purposes (EAP 1 and EAP 2) is a two level program designed for international students who wish to pursue academic goals for further study in Australia.

Who is this course for?

English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course is designed to provide English language skills for students wishing to advance to further academic study.

Benefits of this course

This course helps students to improve writing, develop skills in critical thinking, participate in academic discussions and present their ideas at presentations, to gain new experience as independent learners.

Course content

EAP students will follow a thoroughly designed syllabus which covers the key skills of speaking, reading and listening, with a significant emphasis on writing. Students will participate in lecture listening, note taking, research projects, individual and group oral presentations, independent learning – all in an academic environment. Overcome pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary and grammar problems related to speaking.

Overseas Student Health Cover (OHSC)

Living Cost

All international students are required to have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of your visa. It is important that your cover is maintained throughout the duration of your course. Information with regards to the costs of the cover is available online at https://www.oshcallianzassistance.com.au/

We estimate that a single international student requires AU$14000 – $18000 per year to live in Melbourne. The cost would cover for accommodation, transport, food, clothing and entertainment. It does not cover airfares or additional costs associated with lifestyle.

We will let you know whether your application has been successful. If It is, we will send you a letter of offer

2. Pay your fees to study at Chambers Institute

When an offer is made, you will need to pay all Chambers Institute fees (application fee, tuition fee, and homestay placement fee if applicable) in full by bank draft, telegraphic transfer, or credit card prior to commencing your course. Bank drafts should be made payable to ‘The Chambers Institute’. You can also pay online prior via Pay Pal. 3. Receive a Confirmation of Enrolment Letter (eCOE) and apply for a visa

REFUND POLICY Chambers Institute will ensure that all students are treated fairly and with integrity when applying for refunds. A copy of the Refund Policy and Procedure is displayed on the Chambers Institute website. All applications for refund must be made in writing to the Managing Director, by completing a ‘Refund Request Form’ available from reception or the Chambers Institute website. Refunds are made in Australian currency (AUD). Refunds will only be made payable to the person, or entity, who made the original payment.

Full refund (including the application fee) is paid when a student’s initial visa has not been granted. The refund will be made within 28 days of receiving a student’s refund application together with evidence from DIAC of their visa refusal. The refund will be accompanied by the statement outlining the total refunded amount. Full refund (including the application fee) is paid when Chambers Institute withdraws the offer or is unable to proceed with the program applied (if the program is discontinued after it starts and before it is completed). The refund will be made within 14 days from the day that a program has ceased. Full refund (excluding the application fee and administrative fee of 20% of the total amount of tuition fees paid) is paid if the application for refund is received more than 28 days before the enrolment date of the program. The refund will be paid within 28 days of receiving a student’s refund application. Partial refund (excluding the application fee and administrative fee of 20% of the total amount of tuition fees paid) is paid if the application for a refund is received less than 28 days before the enrolment date of the program. The refund amount will be 75% of the total tuition fees paid. The refund will be made within 28 days of receiving a student’s refund application. No refund is paid if (a) the program has commenced; (b) the student has breached their visa conditions and their visa has been cancelled; (c) the student is excluded on the grounds of unacceptable behaviour; (d) the student has not paid outstanding fees. Special circumstances may apply to refund requests which do not comply with the above points. Examples may include severe medical conditions, political, civil or natural events necessitating the return of the student to their home country. FEES AND CHARGES It is the student’s responsibility to read the information about Chambers Institute, including entry requirements, fees and expenses associated with living and studying in Australia. The student is responsible for payment of associated study expenses including stationery, additional study material fees and other personal expenses throughout the duration of their program. Extra fees will be charged for replacing any lost documents. Fees may incur for some excursions. Any payments made by credit card will incur a surcharge. Services, materials and/or academic results, statements of attainment and course completion certificates may be withheld from students with overdue fees. The student will not be allowed to commence or continue their course until all fees are paid in full including all late fees, administration charges and outstanding fees from all previous enrolments. Course fees will not be transferred to another educational institution.The course fees stated by Chambers Institute at the commencement of the course are subject to change. Late or non-payment of fees is a matter of misconduct which attracts the following: a. A warning letter or email for misconduct will be issued to students with fees overdue more than seven (7) days; b. Seven (7) days after a warning letter has been issued regarding overdue fees, an intention to report for misconduct letter will be issued to students advising that if they do not pay the outstanding fees their enrolment will be cancelled and they have twenty (20) days in which to appeal via the Complaints and Appeals Policy, if they wish; c. Subject to the outcome of any appeal, if fees remain unpaid after twenty (20) days, the student will be cancelled and reported to DIAC. TERMS AND CONDITIONS General information Chambers Institute reserves the right to change its fees, cancel or offer courses, and to alter course timetable at any time without notice. This agreement is made in accordance with the ESOS Act 2000, ESOS Regulations 2001 and National Code 2007. This agreement, and the availability of complaints and appeal processes, does not remove the right of the student to take action under Australia’s consumer protection laws.The student must meet the following DIAC student visa conditions: a. Achieve satisfactory academic performance and attendance and ensure that the student is able to complete their course within the specified timeframe; b. Maintain payment of tuition fees (requests for temporary suspension of studies may be denied if fees are outstanding); c. Maintain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC); d. Notify the school within 7 days if the student changes their Australian residential address; e. Remain enrolled at Chambers Institute for the first 6 months of their primary course. The student’s enrolment may be deferred, suspended or cancelled if: a. The student does not maintain satisfactory course progress or attendance;

b. The student fails to inform Chambers Institute of any change to their personal contact details, including Australian residential address and contact telephone number/s; c. Their fee payment is not up-to-date; d. The student takes leave without obtaining written permission from Chambers Institute; e. The student fails to follow the standards of conduct and behaviour in accordance with the rules of their Student Visa.

The student must read the ESOS Framework information displayed on the Chambers Institute website. The Education Services for Overseas Student Act (ESOS) and regulations set out the legal framework governing delivery of education to overseas students studying in Australia on a student visa. It is the student’s responsibility to seek independent advice prior to signing the agreement with Chambers Institute. In the event of an urgent medical circumstance when a student requires medical attention, Chambers Institute will seek appropriate medical care, on behalf of the student. Dependants of student visa holders Any school age dependants accompanying an international student must attend school and may be required to pay full fees. Transfer between providers A student must remain enrolled at Chambers Institute for the first 6 months of their primary course. The student may only transfer to another provider within the first six (6) months of the principle course by obtaining a formal agreement in writing from Chambers Institute in certain limited circumstances. Orientation A student must understand that an Orientation Program (detailing course content, assessment requirements and course outcomes etc) is compulsory on their first day of study. English Language proficiency An English Language proficiency assessment is compulsory for students enrolling at Chambers Institute. Attendance Students must maintain a satisfactory attendance of 80% minimum or the student places their Student Visa at risk. In certain limited circumstances the student may defer or temporarily suspend their studies during the course by obtaining a formal agreement in writing from Chambers Institute. Complaints and appeals Students may access the Complaints and Appeals process should any issues arise during the enrollment or at any point of studies at Chambers Institute. Personal Information Information is collected on this form and during your enrolment in order to meet our obligations under the ESOS Act and the National Code 2007: to ensure student compliance with the conditions of their visas and the obligations under Australian immigration laws generally. The authority to collect this information is contained in the Education Services for Overseas Students act 2000, the Education Services for Overseas Students Regulations 2001 and the National Code of Practice for Registration Authorities and Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2007. Information collected about you on this form and during your enrolment can be provided, in certain circumstances, to the Australian Government and designated authorities and, if relevant, the Tuition Assurance Scheme and the ESOS Assurance Fund Manager. In other instances information collected on this form or during our enrolment can be disclosed without your consent where authorized or required by law. This information includes, but is not limited to student’s personal and contact details, course enrolment details and changes, and the circumstance of any suspected breach by the student of a student visa condition. The students agree that Chambers Institute may contact them by email or text message (SMS) to the contact details supplied by the students for any information Chambers Institute deems necessary. The student agrees that Chambers Institute will release information related to their enrolment (excluding academic records), attendance and account details to their education agent. Student’s personal information will not be disclosed to any third party without their consent, unless authorised or required by law. The student has a right to access personal information that Chambers Institute holds about them, subject to legislation. The student agrees that any photos or testimonials are the property of Chambers Institute and may be used in printed and digital promotional material. The student agrees automatically to become Chambers Institute alumni upon graduating and agrees to be emailed from time to time to provide feedback to Chambers Institute as to their career progression and further study.
