The Alexandria Area Young Professionals (AAYP) is a focus group formed under the umbrella of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce to represent local professionals younger than 40. AAYP hosts monthly luncheons the first Thursday of every month with opportunities to network, listen to speakers, learn more about the lakes area, and explore new ways to get involved in the community. There are also quarterly social events at local businesses with a number of networking activities.

AmbassadorsThe Ambassadors are volunteers who extend the public relations arm of the Chamber. They attend business open houses, groundbreakings and ribbon cuttings; welcome new businesses to the area; and commemorate relocations and major remodels. They are out making business visits the second Wednesday of every month.

Vikingland Community Support Program, 1106 Broadway, offers community based services and support for individuals with a mental illness. It provides adult rehabilitative services, commu-nity support programs, and independent living skills.

Business BuzzGate City Bank staff presented Lakes Area Humane Society with a gift of $2,000 for veterinary medical care and adoption specials.

Timothy E. Lindley, M.D., joined the staff of Heartland Orthopedic Spe-cialists. He is a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon with a special interest in treating the back, neck and spine.

The Douglas County Car Care Program (DCCCP) named Henry Mingo as its 2016 Volunteer of the Year.

The Alexandria Area Arts Association brought back the historic “Andria” spire that graced the building for many years. The theater will again be called the Andria Theatre.

Aagard Group celebrated its 20-year anniversary with an open house on Thursday, May 18.

Anna Wasescha was recently named president of the West Central Initia-tive by the board of directors.

For the fourth year in a row, KXRA’s Alexandria Big Deals online store has received “The Big Deal” award from the franchise company Big Deals Me-dia of Minneapolis.

Dr. Jerod Ochsendorf of Achieve Wellness was selected to support mem-bers of USA Wrestling as they competed at the U.S. Open in Las Vegas.

Natalie Goodwin joined the staff at Living Tree Massage in Alexandria. She offers therapeutic and relaxation massage, along with aloe body wraps.

Mark Anderson, president/CEO of Knute Nelson, was named chair of the LeadingAge Minnesota board of directors. This is the largest association of organizations serving Minnesota seniors.

Stu Schmidt retired as part owner of Alex Rubbish & Recycling, Inc. The Alexandria Area YMCA received a $50,000 grant from the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee to provide 40 bikes and a trailer for kids in the community.

The Chamber celebrated a Pot of Gold winner at its May 5 Wake Up Alexandria event at Viking Bank. Bethel Manor & Winona Shores Apartments won the prize package of dis-counted services, gift certifi-cates and promotional items valued at $2,511. Accepting the prize from Ecumen were Patti Carey, director of hous-ing; Matthew Fisher, executive director; and Randee Hall, di-rector of community services and marketing.

A large crowd gathered at the Alexandria Golf Club on May 26 to celebrate a ribbon-cutting re-opening of the renovated Minnesota Hole #7. Jeremy Johnson, general manager, and Jon Crouse, Golf Pro/Pro Shop Manager, held the ribbon while course superinten-dent Donnacha O’Connor and staff had the cutting honors.

Lakeland Mental Health Center (LMHC) of Alexandria broke ground on May 25 on a new out-patient facility at 700 34th Ave. in Alexandria. The new 12,000-square-foot facility will include room for future expansion. LMHC is based in Fergus Falls with offices in Alexandria, Perham, Moorhead, Detroit Lakes and Glenwood.
