CHALCOT WEEKLY
Growing a Supportive Community of Active Learners
CHOIR PERFORMANCE On Monday 11th December the Chalcot Choir performed a Christmas Tour of three local nursing homes. Jackson, Chloe, Laura, Sjariel, Emma, Kaidence, Tanya, Sophie, Jasmeet, Inara, Olivia and Rhianna sang a
collection of Christmas tunes and classic hits to entertain the residents at ViewHills Manor, Hallam Residential
Care and Homewood Residential Aged Care.
The choir sang loud and proud, and all the residents clapped along, some singing along when they knew the
words.
Highlights included 'Silent Night', 'Mr Sandman' and 'I am Australian'. The choir have been working hard and
practising all year under the careful guidance of Mrs DiCiero and Ms Warburton and their efforts certainly paid
off. Well done Choir!
Special thank you to the Biggins & Scott Real Estate mini bus and our wonderful driver Garry. We couldn't
have done it without them!

2018 School Captains
Last week, the selection process for the 2018 captains was completed. Mr Poliviou and I feel extremely proud
of each and every one of the applicants and we found making a final selection very difficult, as all of the
applicants are very fine young members of the Chalcot family.
It is with great pleasure that I announce the 2018 School Captains are Christy Allsopp & Arif Sunil. The 2018
School Vice Captains are Ashleigh Boustead & Ethan Landman.
Mr Poliviou and I look forward to working with these students as part of our Student Leadership Team in 2018.
I also wish to thank and acknowledge the 2017 School Captains Justyna Komar & Jake Pellowe and
School Vice Captains, Sarah O’Callaghan & Noah Mraz. They have fulfilled all aspects of their leadership
roles with pride and to a high standard; I greatly appreciate their support and know that their experiences will
put them in good stead for the future.
Class Parties
A reminder that, end of year class parties will be held next Monday 18th December from 12.30pm to 1.30pm.
Everyone will need to bring along something to share and their own disposable cup and plate. Students
may wear casual festive dress on this day, but please note NO hair colouring spray or face paint is permitted
and appropriate footwear must be worn. There will be no charge for free dress on this day.
Year 6 Graduation
The Year 6 Graduation marks the pinnacle of life at primary school for students and we will be holding our
graduation ceremony next Tuesday 19th December.
I am greatly looking forward to listening to their individual speeches, celebrating the highlights of their seven
years of achievement at primary school and presenting them with Graduation Certificates. Parent Club will be
giving a graduation bear to each graduate and I know that these will be treasured forever.
Farewell to Ms Cochrane
Ms Cochrane has been one of our amazing Year 5/6 teachers this year. Ms Cochrane is welled loved amongst our
students and parents and has become part of our Chalcot family. Miss Cochrane has been successful in obtaining a
teaching position in the Cranbourne area. We wish Miss Cochrane all the best and happiness in her new school.
Parent Club Disco
Parent Club Term 4 Day Disco will be held next Thursday 21st December (last day of Term 4).

casual dress must consist of footwear, which is appropriate and safe for school. A reminder that no jewellery,
hair colour sprays of any description or makeup is to be worn at school.
The cost is $2.00 per child to attend the disco and a further $2.00 per child to come along in casual dress ($4.00

School Fees
I thought public education was free. Why have I been asked to pay?
Schools are funded to deliver a quality education based on the standard curriculum. Schools receive additional
government funds based on the needs of the students or location.
Parent payments are a valuable contribution to enhance and enrich the educational experience. These payments
allow schools to offer enhanced programs and opportunities which their school communities expect them to
offer.
Schools decide on the learning program they offer based on the needs and aspirations of the school community.
Some parents believe that public education is free. What is free in government schools?
Victorian legislation clearly states that instruction in the standard curriculum program must be provided free of
charge to all students in Victorian government schools.
This 'free instruction' is the teaching staff, administration and the provision of facilities in connection with
instruction of the standard curriculum program, including reasonable adjustments for students with disabilities.
