Our goal is to… Simply introduce the nanotechnology

and its application. Introduce the fetal cancer problem. Introduce different alternative

medical treatment. Make you treasure your health and

life. Have a vision of the modern

technology.

Time of Summary

Page 5: CH12A

1st paragraph In 1966, a science-fiction film illustrate a idea

to make a team of scientists and doctors shrunk into a man’s body to repair his damage part and save his life.

2nd paragraph Thanks to the advanced in nanotechnology, the

extraordinary idea is possible to cure diseases by using tiny particles injected into a person.

Page 6: CH12A

3rd paragraph Briefly introduced what nanotechnology is. Nanotechnology is the science of small. Nanometer is

only one-billionth of a meter. Using this technology can help doctors to diagnose and cure illness before them do extensive harm to human’s body.

4th paragraph How do quantum dots help diagnose cancer. Quantum dots are particles that are a few nanometers

in size. They shine brightly when exposed to UV light and they bond only to a certain type of cell (a particular cancer cell). So when they are inserted into human’s body, doctors can soon find where the cancer cells are growing.

Page 7: CH12A

5th, 6th paragraph Today, doctors can diagnose cancer only after the

dangerous cells multiplied into millions and developing into a tumor. However, using nanotechnology can make it possible to detect cancer at an early stage when there are only a thousand bad cells. And this can avoid the phenomenon which cancer cells change and adapt to certain drugs that makes many medicines become ineffective.

On the other hand, nanotechnology can also radically improve the treatment after detecting the cancer. Nowadays, most cancer treatments kill not only the cancerous cells but also the healthy ones, which cause side effects such as nausea, hair losing and intense pain in people. However, nanoparticles can allow doctors attack cancerous cells by using laser rays, without disturbing healthy cells.

Page 8: CH12A

7th, 8th, 9th paragraph Although nanoparticles have great medical

potential, there are also negative effects about both environment and health. Not only animals but people will also at risk.

Because of its potential use, scientists don’t want to give up research. They believe that government should allocate more money for safety-related studies to make sure nanoparticles do not cause serious problem. Meanwhile, research into the use of nanotechnology continues. They believe it will be amazing.

Introduction of Nanotechnology

Page 10: CH12A

Nanotechnology: The branch of technology that deals

with structures that are less than 100nanometres long (one nanometer equals one billionth of a meter); scientists often build these structures using individual molecules of substances.

Page 11: CH12A

Nanotechnology has the potential to change the world in many positive ways, it will improve many the products that we use in every day and make many new products possible. But how is it going to do that?

Page 12: CH12A

In a nutshell, nanotechnology is the science of very small things, usually smaller than a hundred nanometers. But how small is that? A hundred nanometers is equivalent to about a thousand atoms across or less. At this scale, things that we take for granted can behave in very different ways.

Page 13: CH12A

You can understand the differences if you think about carbon. If your arrange carbon atoms one way, you get diamond. Arrange them in another way, you get graphite; arrange them randomly, and you get soot. The nano tech way to arrange carbon atoms is to the roll them into nano scale tubes. When you do that, you get something amazing.

Carbon nano tubes are incredibly strong and light, they’ll make it possible to create things like space elevators. The elevator will run up and down a nano tube ribbon into space.

Page 14: CH12A

Another application in nanotechnology can be seen in batteries. By making the granules inside the batteries at a nanometer scale, it is possible to recharge the battery faster, and the battery lasts longer. The nano particles have a lot more surfaces area, and the whole battery works batter.

Some of the more exotic ideas in nanotechnology involve new assembly methods. Scientists are experimenting with new nano materials that can grow or assemble themselves.

Page 15: CH12A

Right now most things are made by taking a big piece of material and molding it or shaving it down. In a nanotechnology world, you start with atoms and build things up, giving you incredible control. Cells are already able to do this; the goal is to find the way for human beings to do this as well.

Nanotechnology is still a very young science, but once it starts advancing, it will affect almost every part of our lives. From medicine to computers to cars, it will be fascinating to watch it unfold. So that’s how nanotechnology works.

‧Acupuncture1. What is acupuncture? Inserting thin needles into specific body points to improve health and well-being. It originated in China more than 2,000 years ago.Researchers don't fully understand how acupuncture works.

Page 26: CH12A

‧Acupuncture2. How is acupuncture promoted

for use? Treating nausea caused by chemotherapy

drugs and surgical anesthesia. Relieving pain after dental surgery. Treating headaches and a number of

musculoskeletal conditions. The effects are different from person to

person.

‧Foot Reflexology A natural healing art based on the

principle that there are reflexes under the feet, which correspond to every gland and organ of the body.

Through application of pressure on these reflexes to relieve tension, improves circulation and helps promote the natural function of the related areas of the body.
