Flour Production

Flour production with complete security and transparency

Grain receive

When grains are delivered to a mill the first analysis of the previous sample is done by the laboratory system X-Rot and afterwards by the process analyser of NIR-Online GmbH. Reflections vary according to quality of grains in near infra red (NIR) spectra. Moisture, protein and other ingredients are directly shown as data and graphs by the NIR-Online software SX-Suite. Contamination, foreign grain and even ergot can be identified by using an additional integrated camera. If deviations are noticed the delivery is stopped immediately, if grains are accepted they are stored selectively according to their quality parameters.

Same NIR technique in laboratory and production

Identical calibrations in laboratory and production

Control by NIR and VIS spectra and picture analysis

Segregation according to quality in grain acceptance

Automatic sampling even for storage samples

Mixture before first lead shot

A certain flour type is produced by drawing the necessary charges from the silos, mixed and tempered accordingly with scales. After some hours of holding time the first lead shot is made controlled by a NIR-Online process analyser with colour camera. This ensures a complete control of the grain mixtures.

Controlled draft and mixing from silos

Automatic adjustment of mixture for protein and/or water

Control and dosage of sprinkled water on grains (tempering)

AgriQuant A1, B1

The AgriQuant is based on the latest FT-NIR technology from ABB Bomem, the world leader in FT-NIR technology. The equipment combines exceptional performance with low cost of ownership.

AgriQuant A1 has been developed for the analysis of heterogeneous samples with special requirements e.g. soil, where there is a high demand for the sensitivity of the detector. Sampling: The sample is analysed on the QIA1020 accessory. The sample is analysed by reflection measurement in 125ml glass jars with lids. The glass jar rotates during analysis providing representative sampling, making sure the sample is constantly mixed and reducing the effects of product heterogeneity. The glass jar has a large opening for easy filling. The lid ensures that the sample is stored under stable conditions and that influence from the surroundings is minimised. After analysis the glass jar can be safely sent to reference analysis or stored. The glass jar can be cleaned and reused many times. Keeping the cost per analysis very low. There is plenty space on the glass jar for barcode labels. The barcode is easily read by a barcode reader connected to the AgriQuant A1 system.

AgriQuant B1 has been developed for the analysis of heterogeneous samples e.g. feed and forage, but many other products can be analysed on the AgriQuant B1.

AgriQuant B1 for Soy Raw Material

Production of animal feeds requires precise control over the different raw materials used. NIR analysers have

widely replaced the traditional methods, since they can run a large amount of samples in a short time. The NIR

analyser is to be placed either in the lab or in the production area and can be operated by plant personnel. The

AgriQuant B1 is a versatile FT-NIR analyser that will deliver analysis results for your soy samples in less than one

minute.

Analyser: AgriQuant B1 The AgriQuant B1 is based on the latest generation FT- NIR technology and has the following main features: • Cutting edge spectral performance and best signal to noise ratio on the market • Very easy to operate and maintain • Strong software package with InfraQuant and Horizon QI • Very low maintenance costs. The AgriQuant B1 has no scheduled maintenance and the light source has an expected lifetime of 10 years.

Analysis: The sample is analysed by reflection measurements in 125ml glass jars with lid, which are rotating during analysis. By rotating the glass jar the sample is constantly mixed ensuring representative sampling and that effects from product heterogeneity are reduced.

The glass jar has a large opening for easy filling. The lid ensures that the sample is stored under stable conditions

and protected from influence from the surroundings. After analysis the sample is easily stored or send to

reference analysis. If many samples have to be analysed, the size of the glass jar has plenty of space for a

barcode. The barcode is easily read with a barcode reader connected to the AgriQuant B1.

Calibration The AgriQuant B1 is calibrated against certified methods for the different components.

The NIR region contains both combination and overtone information. The most sensitive bands are those derived

from the O-H, N-H and C-H stretch regions. To compensate for path length changes due to scattering effects

from the sample, all spectra were pre-processed using Multiplicative Scatter Correction and mean centring. A

Partial Least Squares (PLS) model was developed based on the analytical and spectral data.

Calibration Performances, Examples Table 1 shows the performance of the calibrations developed for all the components with chemical reference analysis available.

Conclusion The AgriQuant B1 is a strong FT-NIR analyser for soy raw material, supplying results in less than one minute for multiple components. With the AgriQuant B1 you can eliminate individual analysis on each constituent and save on manpower, training and time. The AgriQuant can be placed in the lab or in the factory. The intuitive InfraQuant software guides the plant personnel through the steps of the analysis and the results are displayed with easy to understand color codes. With barcode option it is possible to measure many samples each hour making the AgriQuant B1 an excellent choice for the feed factory or lab.

AgriQuant for Forage

Forage - grass and maize silage - is widely used for feeding cows, and it is mandatory to know all the major components and the feeding value of these products. NIR analyzers have replaced most of the traditional methods, since they can run a large amount of samples in a short time, either manually or automated. The analysis time per sample is less than one minute.

Analyser: The FT-NIR AgriQuant The AgriQuant FT-NIR analyser is used for non-destructive analysis of heterogeneous agricultural samples. The pretreated sample is filled into the lidded glass bottle and placed on the accessory. To ensure consistency and analysis of a large amount of the sample, the sample is mixed during analysis. The sample can be kept due to the sealed bottle. The AgriQuant is powered by the latest ABB Bomem FT-NIR technology and measures the entire spectrum of the sample, i.e. in the range 14000-3800 cm-1 (700-2600 nm). It generates a large amount of high-quality spectral data, which makes it possible to precisely determine multiple components.

With no scheduled maintenance for five years, the AgriQuant is practically maintenance-free. It is equipped with parts with a long lifetime. For instance, the laser and NIR source have an expected lifetime of ten years. AgriQuant is operated with the InfraQuant software, which makes it easy for everybody to work with analyses. Two clicks with the mouse is enough to make the analysis. Among the features is a wizard that guides the operator through the program, spectra are displayed right away, and sample information and trends can be reviewed easily.

Calibration The AgriQuant is calibrated against certified methods for the different components. The NIR region contains both combination and overtone information. The most sensitive bands are those derived from the O-H, N-H and C-H stretch regions. Different pre-processing has been used for the different components, typically mean centring and manual base line correction – sometimes 2nd derivative (Savitsky-Golay). A Partial Least Squares (PLS) model was developed based on the analytical and spectral data.

Calibration Performances – Example 60 samples of dried maize and 70 samples of dried grass have been used for the modelling. The material has been ground and put into glass bottles. Table 1 shows the performance of the calibrations developed for all the components with chemical reference analysis available. Repeatability test has been done with a sample of grass measured 5 times.

Conclusion The AgriQuant FT-NIR analyser is designed for analysing forage and feed. The bottled sample is fixed during analysis to see a large amount of the sample, which will lead to reliable and stable results. The results are obtained in less than one minute on multiple components. This eliminates individual analysis on each constituent and saves manpower, training and time. The analysis can be automated using transport belt, bar code reader or radio frequency tagging.

The AgriQuant B1 can be placed directly in the production area and be operated by plant personnel. The AgriQuant B1 will deliver analysis results for your cattle feed samples in less than one minute.

Analyser: AgriQuant B1 The AgriQuant B1 is based on the latest generation FT-NIR technology and has the following main features: • Cutting edge spectral performance and best signal to noise ratio on the market • Very easy to operate and maintain • Strong software package with InfraQuant and Horizon QI • Very low maintenance costs. The AgriQuant B1 has no scheduled maintenance and the light source

has an expected lifetime of 10 years.

Analysis

The sample is analysed by reflection measurements in a 125ml glass jar with lid, which are rotating during analysis. By rotating the glass jar the sample is constantly mixed ensuring representative sampling and that effects from product heterogeneity are reduced. The glass jar has a large opening for easy filling. The lid ensures that the sample is stored under stable conditions and protected from influence from the surroundings. After analysis the sample is easily stored or send to reference analysis. If many samples have to be analysed, the size of the glass jar has plenty of space for a barcode, which is easily read with a barcode reader connected to the AgriQuant B1.

Calibration The AgriQuant B1 is calibrated against certified methods for the different components. The NIR region contains both combination and overtone information. The most sensitive bands are those derived from the O-H, N-H and C-H stretch regions. To compensate for path length changes due to scattering effects from the sample, all spectra were pre-processed using Multiplicative Scatter Correction and mean centring. A Partial Least Squares (PLS) - model was developed based on the analytical and spectral data. Calibration Performances – Example Table 1 shows the performance of the calibrations developed for all the components with chemical reference analysis available.

Conclusion The AgriQuant B1 is a strong FT-NIR analyzer for cattle feed, supplying results in less than one minute for multiple components. With the AgriQuant B1 you can eliminate individual analysis on each constituent and save on manpower, training and time. The AgriQuant B1 can be placed in the lab or in the factory. The intuitive InfraQuant software guides the plant personnel through the steps of the analysis and the results are displayed with easy to understand color codes. With barcode option it is possible to measure many samples each hour making the AgriQuant B1 an excellent choice for the feed factory or lab.

FoodQuant B2, B3, B4, B5

The FoodQuant is based on the latest FT-NIR technology from ABB Bomem, the world leader in FT-NIR technology. The equipment combines exceptional performance with low cost of ownership. FoodQuant B2 has been developed for the analysis of homogeneous samples, e.g. powders and food additives, but many other types of products can be analysed using the FoodQuant B2. Sampling: The sample is analysed by reflection measurements in petri dishes on the QIA1025

sampling accessory. The petri dishes used for the analysis can be made of either glass, plastic or Teflon depending on local requirements. Teflon is especially suitable for production sites where glass and plastic are not allowed on site. After analysis the glass and Teflon petri dishes can be cleaned and reused many times. Keeping the cost per analysis very low.

FoodQuant B3 has been developed for analysis of heterogeneous products, e.g. flours, but many other types of products can be analyzed on the FoodQuant B3. Sampling: The sample is analysed by reflection measurements in petri dishes on the QIA1026

sampling accessory. The petri dishes can be made of either glass, plastic or Teflon depending on local requirements. The sample is spinning during analysis. This ensures representative sampling, that the analyser is seeing a large part of the sample and that effects from product heterogeneity is reduced. After analysis the glass and Teflon petri dishes can be cleaned and reused many times

The FoodQuant B4 has been developed for analysis of heterogeneous products, e.g. pastes, but many other types of products can be analysed using the FoodQuant B4. Sampling: The sample is analysed by reflection measurements in petri cups on the QIA1028 sampling

accessory. The petri cup is made of Teflon. This means that the petri cup can be brought into the production area, e.g. directly to the churn. The sample is spinning during analysis. This ensures representative sampling, that the analyser is seeing a large part of the sample and that effects from product heterogeneity is reduced. After analysis the Teflon petri cup can be cleaned and reused many times. Keeping the cost per analysis very low.

FoodQuant B5 has been developed for analysis of liquid samples, e.g. sugar solutions, soya etc, but many other samples can be analysed using the FoodQuant B5. Sampling: The sample is analysed by transmission measurements in inexpensive vials on the

QIA1075 Universal Vial Sampler. The Universal Vial Sampler has space for 5mm, 8mm and 12mm vials (outer diameter). The vial with the sample is placed in the heated vial holder before analysis. This ensures representative sampling, that the sample is analysed at the right temperature and that effects from temperature fluctuations are reduced. After analysis the vials are disposed off

Workstation The FoodQuant B2 comes with an external computer, which enables the use of a range of add-ons, offering the user maximum flexibility, e.g. touch screen, label printer and barcode reader. The external PC enables rapid upgrade on-site, this reduces any downtime of the equipment to a minimum. The FoodQuant is supplied with a powerful software: InfraQuant 2.5 (easy to use FT-NIR QC software, to collect, present and handle analytical results) and Horizon QI offering a series of strong spectroscopic tools.

FoodQuant B3 for Flour

Many parameters are of interest for the production of flour in order to have production within specifications and to obtain an end product with the desired performance. FoodQuant B3 will provide a fast and accurate result for these parameters, e.g. moisture, protein, gluten and many more. The FoodQuant B3 is perfectly suited to replace traditional laboratory methods which are cumbersome, expensive and require trained personnel. The results are obtained on the FoodQuant B3 in less than a minute, enabling tighter process control and faster reaction in production.

Analyser: FoodQuant B3 The FoodQuant B3 is based on the latest generation FT-NIR technology and has the following main features:

• Cutting edge spectral performance and best signal to noise ratio on the market • Very easy to operate and maintain • Strong software package with InfraQuant and Horizon QI • Very low maintenance costs. The FoodQuant B3 has no scheduled maintenance and the light

source has an expected lifetime of 10 years The sample is analysed by reflection measurement in petri dishes, which can be made of either glass, plastic or Teflon depending on local requirements. Teflon is especially suited for production sites where glass and plastic is not allowed on-site.

Analysis: The sample to be analysed is loaded into a petri dish, which is then placed on the analyser. The analysis is initiated in the software and the result is obtained in less than a minute. The petri dish is spinning during the analysis, ensuring that the FoodQuant B3 is seeing a large part of the sample and reducing effects from product heterogeneity. This is especially important for very heterogenic product like flour.
