INTRODUCTIONThe following document outlines the space requirements, water supply, drain and electrical specifications required for the installation of the MEDIVATORS CER OPTIMA endoscope reprocessor models CER-1 and CER-2 models. The CER-1 OPTIMA model is capable of reprocessing a single flexible endoscope, while the CER-2 OPTIMA model can accommodate up to two endoscopes, allowing single or dual endoscope reprocessing. This document is a guideline for installation specifications and requirements, in addition to any facility/hospital requirements.

SPACE REQUIREMENTSChassis Dimensions

Height = 16 inches (41cm), 33 inches (84cm) with the lid fully open

Width = 22 inches (56cm), 26 inches (66cm) with barcode scanner mounted to CER

Depth = 20 inches (51cm), Allow a minimum of 4 additional inches (10.2cm) for water/drain/disinfectant hose connections located in the back of the CER machine).

Empty Weight (approximated)

CER-1 OPTIMA model: 71 pounds (32kg)

CER-2 OPTIMA model: 77 pounds (35kg)

Cart Dimensions

Height = 33.0 inches (84cm)

Width = 21.5 inches (55cm)

Depth = 24.5 inches (62cm)

Active Vapor Management System Dimensions

Height = 32 inches (81cm)

Width = 23 inches (69 cm)

Depth = 24 inches (61cm)

Counter Top Installation

To install the endoscope reprocessor on a counter top, the counter top must be a minimum of 24 inches (61cm) deep, (from front to back) and at a comfortable working height. Also ensure there is adequate clearance between the open CER lid and any cabinets.

For the counter top, it is necessary to cut two 2 inch (5.1cm) holes in the back/rear of the counter top to allow passage of the drain hose and the disinfectant chemical reservoir tubing. Two additional holes are also required if the water inlet hose and electrical connection are located under the counter.

Cart Mounted Installation

The endoscope reprocessor can be placed on the cart, which is designed to provide easy access to the disinfectant chemical reservoir and water filtration system.

CER-1 & CER-2 Site Requirements

WATER SUPPLY SPECIFICATIONSInlet water flow

Minimum of 2 to 3 gallons (7.6L to 11.3L) per minute

Water pressure

Minimum of 40 PSI (2.8 bar)Maximum of 60 PSI (4.1 bar)

NOTE: PRESSURES OUTSIDE OF THIS RANGE WILL AFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE MACHINE. Consult a qualified plumber for options to bring the water pressure within the 40-60 PSI range.

Water temperature

Cold water supply: Not to exceed 104°F (40°C)

NOTE: Endoscope manufacturers recommend that endoscopes not be exposed to temperatures above 130°F (55°C).

Water Hardness

Ensure water hardness is less than 12 gpg (200 ppm) for optimal performance.

De-ionized water (DI water), due to its corrosive nature, is not recommended for use in MEDIVATORS reprocessors.

Reverse Osmosis (RO water) can be used however, not necessary since potable water can be used with the MEDIVATORS reprocessors. If RO water is utilized, the pre-filter system must still be used.

Water Shut-off Valve

A shut-off valve must be installed before the water filtration system. It is important for the valve to be mounted within the operator's reach to allow for easy and convenient daily use. The shut-off valve is used for turning the water on at the beginning of the day, and shutting the water off at the end of the day.

Water Connection

All fittings on the reprocessor and the water filtration system are 3/4" male GHT (Garden Hose Thread).

All tubing necessary to connect the water filtration system to the reprocessor is included with the CER

OPTIMA® system. The water filtration system is installed in-line.

Local plumbing regulations vary regarding the installation of vacuum breakers for water line and back-flow protection for the drain. Consult local plumbing regulations to ensure compliance.

NOTE: MEDIVATORS recommends checking local plumbing regulations regarding anti-siphon valves, vacuum breakers, and plumbing connections, before attempting to install the endoscope reprocessor.

DRAIN SPECIFICATIONS

The drain fitting on the CER OPTIMA® reprocessor is 1.25 inch (32 mm) OD. It is recommended that the reprocessor be installed with the 4-foot (1.2 m) flexible drain hose supplied with the CER OPTIMA system.

A drainpipe of no less than 1-1/2 inch (38 mm) diameter must be placed at least 1 foot (30.5 cm) below the drain fitting of the reprocessor (having no loops), to ensure complete draining of fluids from the system. The drain hose requires an air gap at the point it enters the drain. Consult local plumbing codes for size of air gap.

The facility drain must be capable of handling a discharge rate of 5 gallons per minute (19L per minute). A facility drain having a dishwasher type "Y" drain is not an acceptable drain method and cannot be used. The drain "Y" does not provide adequate flow rates nor air gap and must not be used. Refer to figure 1.

Power Cord

The CER OPTIMA reprocessor is supplied with one 10-foot (3.05 m) hospital grade removable power cord. A minimum of one duplex (two outlets) outlet is required for the reprocessor and heated disinfectant reservoir. An additional duplex outlet is required for the Active Vapor Management System and the Disinfectant Transfer Pump.

Safety Classification

Ordinary protectionThe reprocessor is not suitable for use in the presence of a flammable anesthetic mixture with air, oxygen or nitrous oxide.

NOTE: For maximum safety, MEDIVATORS recommends the CER OPTIMA system only be used when connected to an electrical outlet containing a Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI), or Residual Current Device (RCD).

NOTE: MEDIVATORS recommends surge protectors be used for protection against electrical power spikes and surges. Consult local electrical codes to ensure proper compliance.

VENTILATION REQUIREMENTSDuring cycle operation and chemical heating process, chemical vapors are produced. It is a health and safety requirement to have sufficient air changes, at least 10 to 12 times per hour, in the room to dissipate the chemical vapor.

The flow of air should be considered by the customer as well. Air should flow away from the front of the unit to the back, thus drawing fumes away from the operator's face. PPE should be used as required.

The unit may be supplied with an Active Vapor Management System to aid in chemical vapor management.

HIGH LEVEL DISINFECTANTS

The CER OPTIMA® reprocessor will monitor the minimum and maximum temperature of the high level disinfectant to assure proper disinfections of the endoscope. The temperature limits are automatically programmed when the disinfectant type is selected. If a disinfectant requires heating, this will require the use of the heated disinfectant reservoir option. If a non- heated reservoir is utilized and the minimum required disinfectant temperatures are not achieved, the CER OPTIMA reprocessor will halt and error. The cycle cannot be completed without the proper disinfectant temperature. For further details, consult your local MEDIVATORS Representative.
