It is a part of the ongoing 107th Indian Science Congress being held at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru from Jan 4 to 7, 2020. Children’s Science Congress is financially supported by NCSTC, DST. It takes courage to stand alone.” - Mahatma Gandhi Port Blair, Jan. 5 With a view to provide massive infrastructural boost to the fisheries sector, the A&N Administration has initiated the process of development of Fish Landing Centres at various locations in A&N Islands for facilitating organized fishing/fish landing in hygienic conditions, safe berthing of fishing crafts, marketing, value addition and undertaking various activities like repairing of fishing crafts and gears. The suitable locations for establishment of Fish Landing Centres in A&N Islands were identified through survey/field studies conducted by Central Institute of Coastal Engineering for Fishery, Bangalore under Ministry of Agriculture, GoI. Thereafter, a Master Plan in this regard was prepared by Ministry of Agriculture, for Development of 19 Fish Landing Centres in A&N Islands, for which the Administration has sanctioned a budget of Rs. 72 crores for the construction work to be taken up by the Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works (ALHW) in phases. In first phase, the Fish Landing Centre at Junglighat was completed in 2007. Thereafter, in second phase, the work of 4 Fish Landing Centres at Diglipur, Mayabunder, Rangat Bay and Yerrata was completed during 2012-13. In third phase, 14 Fish Landing Centres one each at Campbell Bay, Kamorta, Katchal, Teressa, Car Nicobar, Hut Bay, V.K. Pur (Little Andaman), Panighat, Development of Fish Landing Centres in A&N Islands 12 Fish Landing Centres made functional; 5 to be completed by March 2020 Guptapara, Wandoor, Shaheed Dweep, Swaraj Dweep, Uttara and Betapur has commenced. Out of total 19 Fish Landing Centres, 12 Fish Landing Centres, one each at Diglipur, Mayabunder, Rangat Bay, Yerratta, Uttara, Shaheed Dweep, Panighat, Guptapara, New Wandoor, Hut Bay, Car Nicobar and Junglighat have been completed. The work for 5 Fish Landing Centres one each at Betapur, Swaraj Dweep, Teressa, Katchal and Campbell Bay is under progress and expected to be completed by March, 2020. The construction work is to commence shortly at one Fish Landing Centre at Kamorta while V.K.Pur (FLC) in Little Andaman is awaiting IInd stage forest clearance. These 2 Fish Landing Centres are expected to be completed by the year 2022. The Fish Landing Centres are catering to 6299 registered fishermen, 68 Mechanized and Sport Fishing Boats, 1379 Motorized and 1223 Non-motorized Fishing Boats. The Fish Landing Centres are acting as hubs for fisheries related economic activities and provide the support infrastructure to augment fishing exercise as well as secure livelihood for fishermen community, Fisheries Department sources informed our Reporter. Port Blair, Jan. 5 Providing a quality, well regulated, attractive, reliable and comfortable transport service to the citizen is the motto of Transport Department. To achieve this motive, the Department is procuring air conditioned buses and its services will be further augmented in urban areas. Altogether, 10 more (21 seater) AC buses will be procured under the Association of State Board Transport Undertakings (ASRTU). The newly procured AC buses are scheduled to join the fleet of State Transport Service in this month (Jan, 2020), Transport Department sources informed the 'Daily Telegrams'. At present, the Towards providing comfortable transport service to citizens Transport Deptt. to procure 10 more air conditioned buses this month Transport Department is maintaining 14 Air Conditioned buses, out of which, 4 AC buses are plying in Swaraj Dweep while 10 are plying in Port Blair. Port Blair, Jan. 5 The second day of Marina Flea Market was crowded with people, it being Sunday. Visitors were seen savoring various delicacies sold at the market while some were enjoying their evening watching the musical programme presented by the local cultural groups. Air India Chief Lohani rejects rumours of its shutdown New Delhi, Jan. 5 Air India Chief Shri Ashwani Lohani has said that rumours of the disinvestment-bound airline's shutdown are all baseless. Air India Chairman and Managing Director said that Air India will continue to fly and also expand. He said, there should be no cause for concern whatsoever to travellers, corporates or agents.
