The50 Ohmlowloss foamdielectric coaxialcablesareavailablein threedifferent versions:featuring an annularly cor-
rugated outer conductor available in diameters of 1/4 ‘’,3/8’’, 1/2’’, 5/8’’, 7/8’’, 1-1/4’’, 1-5/8’’ & 2-1/4”.
manufactured with helicalcorrugation in the outer conductor in diameters of 1/4 ‘’,3/8 ‘’ & 1/2’’.
overlapping tapeand braid asouter conductor in diameters of 1/16 ‘’, 1/4’’ & 3/8’’.
All of thesecableareconstructed with an inner conductor, alow loss foamdielectric, an outer conductor and a protective
jacket.
The inner conductor is made of a copper wire, a copperclad aluminiumwire, a smooth or corrugated copper tube, according to the different cable size. Thehigh conductivitycopper which is used allows to performverylow attenuation.
The dielectric insulator is extruded and bonded to the innerconductor, thus preventing any longitudinal movementdue to temperature changes or mechanical constraints.
This foaminsulator is made of a mixture of low loss die-lectric polyethylene melted and extruded with an inertgas injection process. This method allows to produce lowdensity, fine close and homogeneous cells. A very thinlayer of polyethylene is finally applied which profiles thediameter consistency of the cable core, thus guaranteeinga very high mechanical integrity and accurateconcentricityover the inner conductor for a remarquable impedanceregularity.
This dielectric being non hygroscopic, it ensures a muchextended service of the cable in adverse environment.
The outer conductors of Flexible(Fserie) and SuperFlexi-ble(SF serie) coaxial cables are madewith a oxygen freecopper tapehaving an electrical conductivity of more than
100% IACS, which is formed, seamwelded and helicaly orannularly corrugated around the core.
The outer conductorof the ExtraFlexiblecable range (XFserie) is made of anoverlapped aluminiumtape covered with a tinnedcopper braid (diame-ter 1/16'' & 1/4" )or a copper tapeand braid for3/8'' diameter.
The halogen free, carbon black polyethy-lene jacket is extrudedaround the outer conductor. Itprovides a high resistance toabrasion, and protects the cableagainst very adverse weatherconditions and ultra-violet rays. Theycomply with IEC60754-1 and 60754-2standards.
ExtraFlexible cables (XF serie) being normally installedinside equipments or equipment roomare provided with a
PVC protective jacket which meet the requirement of IEC60332-1 standard.
For many applications inside buildings, confined spacestunnels and metros, the whole range of HYPERCELL®cables can be offered with an halogen free, fireretardant, lowsmokeandgasemission jacket.
These jackets referenced LSOH have successfully passed thetests specified by the following international standards:
IEC 60754-1 Gases emitted during combustion(Hydrochloric acid 4.3,conductivité

Return Loss (R.L.) This is thedecibel (dB) power ratio of theincident power to thereflected power @ 20°ambient temperature. It can beconvertedin VSWR or Reflection coefficient.
TheACOME cablesof theHYPERCELL®rangebeingmanufacturedandcontrolledaccordingto veryseverestandards, showreturnlossvalues(R.L.) whichsolelydependson thefrequencyrangeof thecable, without anyselection.
Thefigureaboveshows thepotential third order intermodulation distortion occuring in two collocated basestation transceiversin the broadband PCS band. Bands A and Careboth transmitting, and a non linearity causea third order IM distortion to appearin the receivearea of band C. [ f (IM3) =2f1-f2 =2*1940 - 1980 =1900 MHz ]
Measurementscan beobtained in two ways:Holding the source 1 at the frequency F1 and sweepingsource 2 fromF2 min to F2 max in defined steps (withF1 less than equal F2 min).Holding source 2 at the frequency F2 and sweepingsource 1 fromF1 min to F1 max in defined steps (withF2 greater than equal F1 max).
For example, in the GSM band, measurements can be donein holding source 2 at F2 =960 MHz and sweeping source1 upward fromF1min =925 MHz to F1max =935 MHz insteps of 2.5 MHz.
This method allows a curve representation of the passiveintermodulation versus the sweeped frequencies or theintermodulation product (2*F1-F2). Usually, PIM resultsare expressed in dBc, that means measurements results indBmare compared to the source power.
For example, source carrier power is set to Pc =40 dBm,and PIM measurement gives value of R = -110 dBm,result expressed in dBc is obtained by doing the followingcalculation:
It must benoted that the test equipment is calibratedby measuring the intermodulation level of a referenceload. Therefore, if thereferenceloads shows a level of -165 dBc, thelevel of the measured products cannotbe lower than -165 dBc. It is then important toevaluate the difference between the mesuredvalues and the reference value.
Passive intermodulationPassive intermodulation (PIM) is a formof signal distortionthat occurs whenever two or more frequencies signalsconduct simultaneously in a passive device, such as a cableor connector, which contains some nonlinear response.
The non-linear behavior produces spurious signals whosefrequencies are linear combinations of the frequencies of the original signals.
The lower odd-ordered intermodulation (IM) products (e.g.f (IM3)=2f1-f2) are usually the most problematic in thewireless industry since they have the highest potential of falling within thereceiveband, or up-link, of a basestation, creating radiofrequency interference in the receiver.Although frequency allocations are specifically designedto guard against this problem, collocation of two or morebase station transceivers at a single site substantiallyincreases the risk of PIM interference, as illustrated infigure below.
Base stations built for mobile communications systemssuch as Personal Communication Service (PCS 1900),
Advance Mobile Phone System(AMPS), Global SystemforMobile communications (GSM), and DigitalCommunications System(DCS 1800), use DIN 7- 16 and
Type N coaxial connectors to handle the high transmitpower requirements.
At high power (above1W), non-linearities in coaxialconnectors become apparent and measurable. The manypossible causes of intermodulation in coaxial connectorsand cables include poor mechanical contact, dissimilarmetals in direct contact, ferrous content in the conductors, debris within the connector, poor surface finish, corrosion, vibration, and temperature variations.
