Update Information Through the course of the year, families have relocated, changed phone numbers and have different emergency contact details. If you have relocated and have different contact details, can you please provide them to the school so our records are up to date.

Valley Schools Leaders’ Forum Our school Leadership Team are currently preparing their presentation for the Valley Schools Leaders Forum on Wednesday 2nd November at Niagara Park Public School. I know they will present with confidence and skill and will represent our school with pride. Many thanks to Mrs Kelly Beckton for her coordination and leadership with our team and best of luck also to our Stage 3 dance group who will be performing on the night.

Healthy Lunches Healthy lunches and snacks are important for active children. It is important to offer healthy lunch box choices. Tips include adding fresh fruit, crunchy vegetables and a combination of protein, dairy and carbohydrate foods.

Eating healthy food helps children concentrate and learn. Encourage your children to help choose and prepare their own lunch. They might like to make a list of the foods they enjoy. Praise your child when they choose healthy foods for their lunch box. When a child or an adult eats healthily and maintains a healthy body weight, they have less of a risk for developing chronic health problems such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease. Eating healthily and regular physical activity can lead to a healthy body weight, which can help to promote a child's self esteem. Make sure that fruits and vegetables are a part of lunch for your child. Low fat or non fat dairy should be selected over regular fat milk and cheese. Make lunch fun by packing a note for your child, cutting up healthy sandwiches into fun shapes or adding low fat flavoured milk to their lunch box and keep processed foods to a minimum.

Hunter Maths Competition Our Stage 3 students completed the Hunter Maths Competition earlier this year. We achieved 1 High Distinction, 13 Distinctions and 43 students achieved Merit certificates. Well done to Angus, Elliot, Katrina, Regan, Zac, Kayleb, Danielle, Anthony, Danny, Beau, Keira, Aleisha and Mia H. who achieved Distinctions and a special congratulations to Emma from 5/6M who received a High Distinction. A great result.

Grandparents Day Everyone has fond memories of being at their nan and pop’s place – it’s where you’d go to get the kind of love that only a grandparent can give. This year, Grandparents Day will celebrate our shared memories of spending time with our grandparents. Niagara Park is recognising Grandparents Day on Monday 31st October with a Grandparents visit to classrooms from 9:05 am, followed by a morning tea at 9:45 am.

At 10:15 am our dance groups and choir will provide entertainment and you can join your grandchildren at 10:55 am for recess.

Have a great weekend.

PSSA BOYS’ CRICKET REPORT Last Friday, our PSSA Boys Cricket team travelled away to Kurruba Oval to take on Berkeley Vale Public School in Round 5 of the knockout competition. It was down to the 2 best teams on the Central Coast in this game, so we knew we were up against some tough competition. Again we were down a man, which looked to have made our job even harder.

Dylan won the toss and elected to bowl first. We had a pretty good start with Liam and Kane keeping things steady with the ball. Then, their batsmen unleashed upon our bowling, hitting many balls to the fence. Every bowler was punished, even for good bowling and this saw one of their batsmen having to retire on 40 runs. This was a blessing in disguise for our boys. Liam, Kane and Dylan chipped in with some fantastic wickets, while Ethan, Liam and Cody showed off their skill with some sensational catches. We came off at the break staring down 7/112, meaning we needed 113 runs to win. This would be our highest chase all year if we were to catch them.

After a bit of a pep talk, we pushed all our motivation onto Jack and Dylan to set us up for this monster of a run chase. Jack pushed balls all around the park, picking every gap with ease. Dylan was quite set on smashing every ball to the boundary, with his first 3 scoring shots being 4’s. Our first wicket fell with Dylan retiring on 45 after hitting his 2nd 6, a massive effort against a strong bowling side. Liam came out then and worked well with Jack for his 18 runs. The game was then all tied up when Jack lost his wicket trying to hit the winning run, finishing up on 32. In came Cody, who pushed the winning run out to the deep. This chase was such a great effort; it even had the other coach and their entire team stunned! Our effort was equally matched by our sportsmanship. These boys were a credit to our school!

This result means we have again been crowned Central Coast Champions for the 4th year in a row! We now move onto the Round of 16, playing either a team from Sydney or Newcastle. A special thanks to our parents and carers who came along to support us, especially Mrs Singh for assisting in the delivery of our ice cold drinks at the end of the game!

A VERY proud, Kurt Briggs PSSA Cricket Coordinator

Niagara Park Public School is about to undertake a new cycle of KidsMatter, a whole-school approach to improving children's mental health and wellbeing. An essential part of the program is to ensure that the views of staff, students, parents and carers are taken into account. To help us to understand the needs of our community, parents are being asked to complete a short survey.

This can be accessed online at: https://www.kidsmatter.edu.au/primary/other-resources/school-surveys/parent-survey. Please note the reporting period is 2016.

For parents who do not have access at home, you can complete the survey at school in Area 1 or the Library each morning and afternoon, or at the bottom gate. Please keep an eye out for our action team of Monique Gavenlock, Kayla Frost and Kylie Haverkamp.

Paper based copies in language other than English are also available on request. Please email Justine Temple at [email protected] KidsMatter Team
