I’m not sure that anyone can just drop what they have been conditioned to do just because they quit drinking. There has to be more to it than that. This we can do by thoroughly going through the steps in the spirit that they were intended, being careful not to hold back anything. As we approach the twelfth step, we are introduced to the Saint Francis prayer in the 12X12. Francis was not a saint when he wrote this prayer but he expresses that these virtues were the answer to all of the misguided thinking of the past. Note that not one of his requests is for help with things that are of a selfish or material nature. I myself am not affiliated with any religious organization, but I am not threatened by religious doctrines and I agree with the statement on pg. 87 BB. “Be quick to see where religious people are right. Make use of what they offer”. I am sometimes honored when a newer member of the program asks for some guidance and I will usually suggest that he/she write out this prayer in long hand, paste it on his/her mirror and read it every day for a minimum of 30 days, and I guarantee that it will influence your thinking for the rest of your life. It did for me. I don’t know of a more practical thing to set the tone for a person’s interactions with others. Thinking back on it, I always knew the right thing to do, but wasn’t always strong enough to do it. I dismissed these things, not realizing the pain that would result as I lost my direction in life. The Saint Francis prayer is one of the ways in which the program suggests we revisit our early value system. It gives us some spiritual direction that deals with the change in our inner self. If we heal in that area, the material world will take care of itself. When faced with a sticky situation, I have a choice whether to escalate it or to withdraw with love and understanding. After years of trying my best to live in the spirit of this prayer, it occurred to me that, as a result, I qualify in all of those things I learned as a child, in church, in the Boy Scouts, in kindergarten, the golden rule, and in childhood sports. To me, it is an ALL ENCOMPASSING SPIRITUAL roadmap. Rick R.

CENTRAL OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 11TH FOR VETERANS DAY

& THURSDAY NOVEMBER 24TH - 28TH, FOR THE

THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY

THE ALL ENCOMPASSING PRAYER

As I have navigated my way through the program of alcoholics anonymous,

with only a limited education, but a desire to learn all I can about life as it

unfolds, it occurs to me that most of the things that the program teaches me

are things I have been taught before. I learned the Ten Commandments in

church. In the Boy Scouts, I learned that a scout is Trustworthy, Loyal,

Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Brave, Clean, and,

Reverent. In sports I learned of Team Work and of Disappointment. In

kindergarten, I learned to play fair in the sand box, I also have heard of the

Golden Rule. These things have been around long before me and even before

A.A; so where did I go wrong?

I, like most of us that come into the program, had a myriad of personal

problems, and at first, I believed that those life issues including; Marital,

Legal, Economic, Physical, etc; were the cause of my drinking the way I did. At

that time, I wasn’t sophisticated enough to understand the ins and outs of

these things. I’m not sure that anyone can just drop what they have been

conditioned to do just because they quit drinking. There has to be more to it

than that. If we are fortunate enough to envision the wonderful life we can

experience as the result of embracing this program to the fullest degree, we

will, first, want to clear up the wreckage of the past. This we can do by

thoroughly going through the steps in the spirit that they were intended,

being careful not to hold back anything. As we approach the twelfth step, we

are introduced to the Saint Francis prayer in the 12X12. Francis was not a saint

when he wrote this prayer but he expresses that these virtues were the

answer to all of the misguided thinking of the past. Note that not one of his

requests is for help with things that are of a selfish or material nature. I

myself am not affiliated with any religious organization, but I am not

threatened by religious doctrines and I agree with the statement on pg. 87

BB. “Be quick to see where religious people are right. Make use of what they

offer”.

I am sometimes honored when a newer member of the program asks for

some guidance and I will usually suggest that he/she write out this prayer in

long hand, paste it on his/her mirror and read it every day for a minimum of

30 days, and I guarantee that it will influence your thinking for the rest of

your life. It did for me. I don’t know of a more practical thing to set the tone

for a person’s interactions with others. Thinking back on it, I always knew the

right thing to do, but wasn’t always strong enough to do it. I dismissed these

things, not realizing the pain that would result as I lost my direction in life.

The Saint Francis prayer is one of the ways in which the program suggests we

revisit our early value system. It gives us some spiritual direction that deals

with the change in our inner self. If we heal in that area, the material world

will take care of itself. When faced with a sticky situation, I have a choice

whether to escalate it or to withdraw with love and understanding. After

years of trying my best to live in the spirit of this prayer, it occurred to me

that, as a result, I qualify in all of those things I learned as a child, in church, in

the Boy Scouts, in kindergarten, the golden rule, and in childhood sports.

To me, it is an ALL ENCOMPASSING SPIRITUAL roadmap.

Celebrating November Birthdays:

Beth B. 2 yrs and John F. 30 yrs Our True Home

Our true home is the present moment. To live in the present moment is a miracle.

The miracle is not to walk on water, The miracle is to walk on the green earth in the present moment,

To appreciate the peace and beauty that is available now.

Peace is all around us- in the world and in nature-and within us- in our bodies and spirit.

Once we learn to touch this peace, We will be healed and transformed. It is a matter of faith; It is a matter of practice.

The Eleventh Step

“Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact

with God as we understood him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us

and the power to carry that out” Prayer and meditation are our principle

means of conscious contact with God. -Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions pg.96

The Eleventh Tradition

The Eleventh Concept

While the trustees hold final responsibility for A.A.’s world service administration, they

should always have the assistance of the best possible standing committees, corporate

service directors, executives, staffs and consultants. Therefore, the composition of these

underlying committees and service boards, the personal qualifications of their members,

the manner of their induction into service, the systems of their rotation, the way in

which they are related to each other, the special rights and duties of our executives,

staffs and consultants, together with a proper basis for the financial compensation of

these special workers, will always be matters for serious care and concern.

- The 12 Concepts for World Service illustrated

“Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion;

we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, and

films.” Here was something rare in the world— a society which said it

wished to publicize its principles and its work, but not its individual members.

-- Twelve Steps & Twelve Traditions pg. 182

LATE SUBMISSIONS Cont’d H&I Committee News

Greetings Central Offices of Northern CA

As you may have heard by now, the

rumors are finally true – H&I DOES have

too much money. Today. All those years

of incorrect rumors, admittedly due in

part to a past lack of transparency from

our committee … and now that we

actually do have a surplus, and would like

to make a $50,000 distribution in

accordance with our 7th Tradition, the

misinformation is flying off the shelves.

I’ve att’d a one page Q&A sheet (available

from Karen C. & H & I Committee), which

I hope will dispel some of this confusion

and get the facts straight, and I’m hoping

that you can help us get the word out. If

we can work in unity on this, I believe it

will assist our H&I Committee to do the

right thing with-out staunching the flow

of our normally much needed Pink Can

funds; it also presents an option to better

protect the 7th Tradition basket, which I

think has been a long-time concern for all.

Please feel free to contact me at any time

with comments or questions - I gratefully

thank you in advance for your assistance

(and also please excuse any duplication in

email addresses).

Yours in grateful service,

Karen Czujko, General Chair

Hospital & Institution Committee of

Northern California

Group Contributions

and the Pink Can

“We ask that the Group contribution Basket

be passed Completely Before the Pink Can is

passed and that the Pink Can is Not passed

inside the group basket. That the Pink Can

either be passed after the group basket is

completed or Be left on the table with a

brief announcement about the purpose

of the Pink Can”.

This portion of a letter issued by Lorraine

MacD. (who is the past General Chairman of

the Hospitals and Institution Committee of

Northern California ) is the best answer we

have seen, in response to the Pink Can for

local Groups. By Moving the Pink Can to the

literature table or leaving it at the

Secretaries table is in keeping with the

suggested method of contributions.

On a lighter note…

A guy joins a monastery and takes a

vow of silence: he’s allowed to say two

words every seven years. After the first

seven years, the elders bring him in and

ask for his two words. "Cold floors," he

says. They nod and send him away.

Seven more years pass. They bring him

back in and ask for his two words. He

clears his throats and says, "Bad food."

They nod and send him away.

Seven more years pass. They bring him in

for his two words. "I quit," he says. "That’s

not surprising," the elders say. "You’ve

done nothing but complain since you got

here."

IV. Trusted Servant Reports A. Chairperson Report – Kathryn C

Welcome to the October meeting of the Central California Fellowship of AA. I want to thank you all for being here and being of service! For those of you looking for something to do this evening, there is the 3rd Annual Legacy Continues Families in Recovery Speaker Meeting/Dessert Potluck/Raffle from 6-9pm (all the information is in the By the Way). Reminders: ? Next month is our Annual Meeting when we will hold elections. The meeting will be from 2:00-5:00pm so plan on being here an

hour earlier than usual. I will reach out to those of you that raised your hands in August to help with the elections and make sure

we round up everything we need before the November meeting.

? I hope you are all thinking about stepping up to serve in a greater capacity with CCF. This has been a great experience for me and I

plan to stay connected in the coming year. If you have any questions about the positions, please talk to me or any of the officers

and we will be happy to help.

? This month we will have discussion over the annual budget. Out of respect for everyone’s time, I have scheduled 30 minutes for

this discussion so we can get out of here by 5:00pm. We read the 12 Traditions at the beginning of every meeting to inspire a

cooperative spirit that I have only experienced in AA. I assume that every person here is acting in the best way that they can and I

hope you think that of me. Things can get confusing on their own without my reactions getting in the way. I am confident that if

we all remain respectful and solution oriented (like we do at every other meeting!), we will reach a timely and well-considered

outcome, whatever that may be.

? Next month we will finally vote on the budget with no additional discussion at the meeting. If you still have questions between

now and then, please don’t hesitate to contact any of us.

Finally, Halloween is right around the corner. I hope that you all stay safe, sober, and have a great time that you will remember the next morning! Again, thank you all again for your service. Kathryn Caldwell, CCF Chairperson, 2016- [email protected]

E. Treasurer’s Report –John R

Treasurer Notes September 2016 Income / Expense:

CCFAA Gross Revenue for September was $17,995. AAWS Literature sales were $4,899, which is a rather large slump from the August

figure of $7,330. Group Contributions were $7,368, up from $6,968 the previous month. Medallion sales for September were slower

at $2,802 but faithful Fivers contributed $688 which is $170 more than the past month. Thank you Faithful Fivers! Cost of goods sold

were $8,664 for Gross income of $12,076 for the month.

Period Expenses were lower and only $13,757 for the month because we had no major events. We had no committee expenses

either. We had a net loss for the period of $1,682. Year to date we show net profit of $1.

The CCFAA budget for FY 2017 discussion occurs in October, and will be voted on in November. Balance Sheet:

The CCFAA balance sheet was presented to Delegates. Cash and current asset are up from the previous quarter, but so are liabilities. Prudent reserve is close to three months of expenses. -Sincerely, John G.

F. Special Needs Chairperson’s Report – Tricia C The Northern CA Accessibilities Committee, in cooperation with the CCFAA Special Needs Committee continues to present information to area AA meetings about hosting ASL interpreted meetings, and every week there are more groups willing to participate in this effort. Most recently, Ascension Lutheran Church in Citrus Heights approved a Wednesday night 7:30pm mtg, which will be starting soon. Roseville 5th St. is in process, and the Too Young Thursday night meeting wishes to participate. Many more presentations are in process around the area. A presentation was made recently to the Auburn Fellowship, who made a donation to the group for their efforts to provide ASL meetings in the area. CCF Special Needs/NCAC will have a table at the Legacy Potluck on 10/15/16. Stop by and talk to us about what is going on, and what is being planned for the near future. Currently, we are in the process of developing a logo for the group, a tablecloth with logo, and a 3 panel display board that will be used at promotional events, especially the young people’s conference on New Year’s weekend, as well as at any events we are invited to participate at. Stay tuned for more developments! The NCAC group meets on the 2nd Saturday of the month, 10:30am at Gibbons. Please join us and become acquainted with what is going on. We welcome your ideas and support! In Service, Tricia Casey, Chair, Special Needs Committee (916-705-7013)

V. Reports – Special Committees, Delegates, Liaisons & Invited Guests –

A. NCCAA Liaison – Dreigh P Early indications are that the October "Fall" NCCA Conference in Modesto was a financial success. At this writing all expenses were not yet in but Pre and On-Site Registrations seem to have been strong for the end of the NCCAA's 69th Year. The next Conference will be during the 70th year of NCCAA with meetings in Foster City, Sacramento and Lodi. While site locations for the 2017 Conference Year have been booked, at this point, no viable 2018 Host Committee Bids have been received. Two earlier bids, from Fresno and Modesto were not accepted as on the outset it was clear the bids packages would not break even. The Committee is looking for facilities, such as Fairgrounds extra for 500-800 attendees, likely in a non Hotel setting. Regarding the next Sacramento Conference, Meetings for Sacramento NCCAA Summer Conference (June 9, 10, 11 2017); Planning Committee meetings will be held: Location: Group Three 9940 Business Park Drive Sacramento, CA 95827 Time: 1st Sunday each month The Sacramento host committee invites everyone in the Sacramento area to be the team that plans this insanely great conference. The next planning meeting will be: Sunday, November 6, Sunday, December 4, Sunday, January 8, Sunday, February 5, Sunday, March 5, Sunday, April 2, Sunday, May 7 Sacramento's monthly planning meetings will be on the first Sunday every month (except January) until the conference [Dec 4Feb 5, Mar 5, Apr 2, May 7, June 4]. All members are welcome no matter what your sobriety time is. Listed below are the Chair posit ions available, and most need Alternate chairs. These positions are crucial to ensure the success of this conference coming to Sactown. It’s a commitment for the next eight months. We’ll need approximately 200 volunteers for this conference, so be of service and“volunteer” your friends! For more information you may go to our website (norcalaa.org) or contact Tony H (916.262.6826) or Patrick S (916.612.8667) Yours in Service, Dreigh P, [email protected], (916) 250-2932

B. Picnic Committee- Wendy The picnic binder has been updated for the next person who takes over as Chair. Recommending that someone step up to take position it is a lot of fun.

C. Hospitals & Institutions – Terri M Meets 3rd Thursday of the month at 6pm at Denny’s at 7900 College Town Drive. D. District 23 Liaison- Carlos

No report E. Special Events Chair – Terri N

All prepared for the Legacy Continues Speaker meeting need people to show up for set up and take down and also bring raffle baskets if possible. This is her last year so asking that someone step up next year. It’s been fun but time to hand over the reins not sure of pending totals but trip for sure is covered.

VI. Old Business – 1. 2017 Budget discussion. No major concerns = John went through the budget explaining reasons for new proposed budget amounts.

Delegates did not have too many questions.
