KEY FEATURES
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
• As applications are often specific, Renold offers a full bespoke design service based on standard proven chains and wheels
As standard, Renold provides:• Excellent fatigue life • Full technical support• Outboard or inboard rollersOptions available on request include:• Special lubrication• Wide range of special attachments• Wide range of pin fixing
• Major suppliers to original equipment manufacturers includes Boubiela, BMH (formerly PHB Someral),ERN (formerly Denis) FCB and Polysius
• Approved suppliers to most users including Calcia (Italcementi), Holderbank, Lafarge and Vicat
• All Renold Chain’s manufacturing and assembly processes are monitored by Statistical Process Control (SPC) in conformance with ISO 9000 (BS 5750) Quality Systems
• Consistent overall tolerances make it ideal for conveying systems requiring precise alignment on multi-strand chain layouts
• Maximum chain strength and resistance to wear are achieved by strict control of the material specification, and by using state of the art heat treatment processes
• Special materials selected for the unique combination of demands from the cement industry
• Fatigue life is improved by maintaining precise fits and tolerances between the pins, bushes and side plates
• Chain and sprocket life are optimised by the rigid control of pitch accuracy, resulting in excellent gearing, lower friction and reduced wear
• Bush and roller life are maximised by controlling the concentricity of these components and careful selection and control of the heat treatment process
• Breaking loads exceed the minimum international standards, and chains are able to be supplied with breaking loads up to a maximum of 5000kN
• Strict control of inner and outer plate clearances ensures effective lubricant penetration. Renold’s use of specially formulated lubricants provides maximum protection and thus minimum wear
• Installation and maintenance guides available

Cement industry - the range
RENOLD ULTIMATE ENDURANCE
Renold has been supplying “Brampton” mark chains
to the cement industry for many years, and can be
found in various types of equipment throughout the
different processes of cement manufacture.
Renold “Brampton” mark conveyor chains are used on
bucket elevators, reclaim conveyors, apron feeder
conveyors and crusher feeders. Transmission chains of
all types are also used throughout the plant on
machine drives.
RECLAIM CONVEYOR CHAIN
Reclaim conveyors are used to move rawmaterial, usually stocked in bulk on theground in sheds or silos. The reclaimconveyor is usually a twin strand scraperconveyor with the bottom strand usedto scrape the material on the ground to adistribution conveyor, usually a belt conveyor. Because of thearduous duties involved, these chains usually have quite highbreaking loads (i.e 500kN to1500kN) and are manufacturedto either ISO or German DIN standards. Specially designedchains are used for particularly arduous conditions.
BUCKET ELEVATOR CHAIN
Bucket elevators are used invarious processes in the cementindustry to raise materialstypically 30 to 40 metres. Some of these may be belt andbucket type, others will be chaintype. The size and type of chainwill depend on the height and dutyof the elevator but output can reach 450 m3/hr.Chains range from 136kN to 1000kN breaking load.
BUCKET CONVEYOR / ELEVATOR
These have buckets fixed to oneor two strands of chain. The buckets are shaped so thatwhen passing over the headwheelthe back of each bucket acts as achute for material dischargedfrom the following bucket.Feeding of the elevator is achievedby a loading leg or chute.
GRAVITY BUCKET CONVEYOR / ELEVATOR
This combined conveyor andelevator consists of a series ofbuckets mounted on spigot pinsbetween two chains. The buckets, which are free to pivot, retain thematerial being carried, whethertravelling horizontally orvertically, until they are tipped atdischarged positions.
SPACED BUCKET ELEVATORS
Buckets are fixed at intervals toone or more chains.Material is fed into the elevatorboot and is picked up by thebuckets scraping or dredging.Discharge of material relies onthe speed of the bucket aroundthe headwheel to impart acentrifugal force to the material, so that it is thrown clearof the preceding bucket.
APRON FEEDER CHAIN
These conveyors are usually situated under hoppers, and are usedto control feed material from the hopper for processing e.g to acrusher. Material can be loaded into the bunker from anappreciable height and straight onto the conveyor e.g. from a 60 ton dumper truck in large 5 ton pieces. In these arduousconditions, all components, particularly the chains, have to be ofextremely robust construction. Often a layer of material is left onthe conveyor so that when a further load is dropped, the originalmaterial acts as a cushion for the conveyor. The conveyor consistsof two or more strands of solid bearing pin chain, bolted to heavycast or fabricated apron slats. They are driven at a very slowspeed intermittently to ensure regulation of material flow.Chains tend to be between 300kN and 600kN breaking load and apitch around 300mm.
CRUSHER FEEDER
Found in the initial process ofcement manufacture - this type ofequipment is comparable to theapron feeder, but in thisapplication the apron is subject tovery high impact loads due tothe falling of the limestoneblocks. The conveyor chainconsists of two strands, generally large pitch, linked bya steel apron and usually shortin length e.g. 5 - 10 metres.Special design features in RenoldBrampton mark chain have increased crusher feeder chain lifeby up to 3 times.
HOT CLINKER CONVEYOR
These conveyors are used to transporthot clinker from the kiln exit to theclinker store. Designs are various typesof bucket conveyor with two strands ofchain. The chains tend to be long pitchand have outboard rollers mounted onone side of the chain. A typical layoutconsists of two chains, each 1200kNbreaking load, 250mm pitch with staybar bearing pins at twopitch spacings and outboard rollers on the staybar ends.Overlapping buckets are bolted between the chains at everytwo pitches. Chains can be supplied with or without a greasegun lubrication facility in the bearing pin ends and in the outboard rollers. This provides improved life and asignificantly quieter operation.
