INTRODUCTION
Recently, the use of mobile phones has gained a place in the hearts of Consumers as
easy to use without any cables and without the use of electric energy. Even this is easy to
carry wherever only for pocket-sized physical. Since the creation of this facility in 1970, it
has provided many changes in our lives as the facility that allows us to communicate. By
using the mobile phone communication can be used anywhere. In fact, we are also able to
access the internet using the mobile phone.
The latest mobile phones can perform and support a variety of things such as make
calls, access the internet, sending MMS and SMS, has Bluetooth, video recorder, music
player, GPS facility, etc. Although these handsets provide many advantages, yet it also brings
disadvantages in our lives. The development of mobile phone technology is becoming is
increasingly rapidly in our country but around the world. But according to a study that's was
conducted,
Using a mobile phone cans do harm to the user. Even at present, has many
telecommunications companies are competing to produce the latest mobile phones as well as
sophisticated and fulfil the aspirations of the community at the present time. We just need to
wisely choose the best product for us.
The mobile phone technologies have made mobile payment solutions possible.
Mobile payment, which is also called m-payment, is a wireless-based electronic payment
system that supports payment for a transaction using one’s mobile devices such as cellular
phones, smart phones, and personal digital assistants (Gao et al., 2005).
A number of studies have tried to determine how many drivers use mobile phones
while driving. For example, in a number of high-income countries (e.g. the United States of
America, New Zealand, Australia and some European countries), 60–70% of drivers report
using a mobile phone at least sometimes while driving.
Some studies also try to measure the use of mobile phones at any given moment
because it is not only use while driving, but also the length of use that impacts upon risk – the
longer the use, the greater the risk. Most of these are self-reported or observational studies, or
police records.
The active use of mobile phones can provide a number of negative effects,
particularly on the many young people who wield these facilities. Several studies have been
conducted have found that excessive use of mobile phones can cause health problems to
someone. This thing is a serious concern for all parties. But there are also those who do not
know and there are also there are those who do not heed this.
Therefore, immediate action should be taken to reduce and control the problem before
it gets worse. Some things that can be implemented as has been done by the government to
control the level of consumption among young people, especially school children of not
allowing students bring cell phones to school because it will give a negative impact on them.
Although the government has taken appropriate action, we as consumers must take
cognizance of the dangers of cell phone use this if not controlled.
Malaysian law also set to not use a cell phone while driving a vehicle. If you wish to
use must be in accordance with the guidelines laid down in order not to be fined. However,
how far we took a serious view of this matter? Therefore, neither party is able to control
every cell phone user but having awareness about its impact on our health problems.
The dependence on the mobile phone is increasingly high. At the same time, this new
information and communication technology may cause harm. Although there are only a few
studies of mobile phone use, it has been suggested that excessive mobile phone use may be
associated with health-compromising behaviours, such as smoking or alcohol drinking. Some
previous studies of Internet use suggest that excessive Internet use may be associated with
subjective distress, loneliness and social isolation.
There is concern that microwaves might induce or promote cancer, and the symptoms
associated with their use include sleep disturbance, memory problems, headaches, nausea,
and dizziness. Changes in the permeability of the blood-brain barrier,
electroencephalographic activity, and blood pressure have also been reported
Such a research, by Siegrist M et al. studied the perceptions of risks associated with
mobile phones, base stations, and other sources of electromagnetic fields. Results showed
people who use their mobile phones frequently perceived lower risks and higher benefits than
people who use their mobile phones infrequently. Study conducted by Hutter et al., on
adverse health effects of mobile phones and their base stations.
PRO’S AND CONTRA’S OF USING CELL PHONE FOR HUMAN BEING
There are pros and contras using mobile phones. The advantage of using the handset
easy to carry wherever, easy to get in touch with other people, wireless and can be used at
any place and at any time and also a lot of easy to use functions such as checking e-mail and
socialize without limits in line with the changing world of today. There are various types of
mobile phones in all shapes sizes and designs according to the latest consumer preferences to
attract more consumers to use mobile phones than regular phones.
When compared to a few years before mobile phones created state of the art, they use
the phone as a home phone and a public telephone to make a call either long distance or up
close. However, they only can use of these phones to make calls only. Meanwhile, they have
to use a computer with internet to obtain the necessary information such as the latest news,
articles and such with it. On the other hand, at present these facilities can be done by simply
using a mobile phone only and also there are several other advantages
Nowadays, the most advantage of cell phone is the functionality. Many developers are
competing among other networking company with a new development in terms of
functionality and other utilities that could make people more exciting to use. Moreover, there
are many new applications and games. One of them is the capable of the 3D games can be
played in a small device. It does not need a big monitor to play the massive 3D game. For the
first users of the more urbane mobile device would be proud to use it. Besides, the developers
can make money through the market by developing and selling applications and games. It is a
good real-world way of business nowadays.
The other advantage of using the mobile device is has the fashionable. The human
beings want use the mobile device in many aspects such as stylish. The mobile device styles
can expression the personality of the users. Hence, they are emphasizing the style of mobile
device although the mobile device functions are not too spectacular.
At this time, these mobile devices are very well known for its social facilities.
Therefore, people can make their own conversation with a discussion of their simulation as
Whatsapp, WeChat and other new applications. Therefore, they do not need to go to any
place to do a discussion or conversation between them so as to save time and costs such as
transportation costs and other related. Many companies, particularly businesses that have
branches where, had used social facilities to hold discussions between them because in this
way the business can run smoothly without seeing each other. In addition, small companies
also have the facility to apply for their own supplies from wholesalers. Therefore, this can
reduce the expenses of the company with this technology.
The best advantage of using the mobile phone is that people can get any information
more rapidly as long as there have a server connection. As above that the mobile phone is
very easy to carry everywhere, thus, it easier to all of us as getting news or information. At
present, the applications of news getting more sophisticated like Berita Harian application,
Metro application and other newspaper application which people can get online for free.
Every benefit there must be disadvantage. There are some disadvantages using the
mobile phone such as accident, adverse effect on animals and plant, sleeping disorder, risk of
cancer, and less spend time with family. In facts, the using of mobile phone while driving is
the highest cause of accident. This is increasing over the 5-10 years. It is also increasing in
range from 1% to up 11%. The accident is cause of the cognitive distraction. It is the driving
behaviours among of the human. They are not considering that it is the biggest impact of
accident and it is very dangerous.
As we know, the mobile phone adverse effects on animals and plants. The mobile
phone has the electromagnetic radiation in it. The electromagnetic is the dangerous wave to
the living thing such as animals especially birds. It is because the birds are flying and would
like to stay near the tower. Surface area of a bird is relatively larger than their weight in
comparison to human body.
The use of mobile phone also can caused sleeping disorder. Mobile phone usually
distracts stage four of sleeping. The stage four is important for full recovery of brain and
body. The use of mobile phone before bed will delays, and reduces sleep and cause headache,
confusion and depression. It is usually the youths use their mobile phone at night and also
keep the phone near to their head which may lead to changes of mood and personality, lack of
concentration and poor academic performance. It is very bad for the young people because in
this age they should have gathered the knowledge as many as they can.
Other than that, the massive problem using mobile phone is risk of cancer. Heavy use
of mobile phones can cause brain cancer. Use of mobile phones more than 10 years give a
consistent pattern of increased risk for brain cancer especially for youngster. Children and
teenagers, before the age of 20 are five times more likely to get brain cancer, as their brain is
not fully developed so that radiation penetration is so much deeper. It is possible that today's
young people may suffer of the disease in later life.
Besides increase in brain tumour and acoustic neuroma, there is an increased risk of
other types of cancers following continued exposure to mobile phone or tower radiation, such
as, salivary gland tumours, veal melanoma, lymphoma, facial nerve tumours, skin, blood,
testicular and breast cancer. Interphone study has also found a ‘significantly increased risk’ of
some brain tumours for heavy users of mobile phones (> 20 minutes per day) for a period of
more than 10 years. It is recommended that children should be discouraged from using
mobile phones and limit use to emergency.
Phone mobile’s electromagnetic risk to children and pregnant women. This is because
the children are exposed to the radiation. The children absorb more energy than adults from
the same phone owing to their smaller head and brain size, thinner cranial bones and skin,
more elastic ears, lower blood, as well as greater conductivity of nerve cells and the energy
breaches more deeply.
Tumours in the mid brain are more deadly than in the temporal lobe. Children’s cells
reproduce more quickly than adults which make cancers more deadly. Their immune system
is not as well developed as adults hence are less effective against fighting cancer growth then
children have longer life time exposure.
The younger as child, the deeper is the penetration due to the fact that their skulls are
thinner and still developing. For these reasons, it is critical that children under the age of 16
use cell phones only for short essential calls as they have much bigger threat of getting a
brain tumour. Brain tumours have now taken over leukaemia as the biggest cause of death
amongst children.
Due to these reasons, some countries have widely discouraged use of cell phones by
children. An Independent research in Sweden last year determined there was surprising 420%
increased chance of getting brain cancer for cell phone users who were teenagers or younger
when they first started using their phones.
A pregnant woman and the foetus both are at risk because of the fact that these radio
frequencies radiations constantly react with the developing embryo and increasing cells.
Microwave radiation can harm the placental barrier; the membrane which avoids the passage
of some materials between the maternal and fatal blood, protecting the foetus, indicating that
pregnant woman should avoid cell phone or use during emergency.
In a recent discovery, an association was found between a mother’s cell phone use
during pregnancy and greater likelihood for impulsive abortion, congenital malformations
and behavioural problems in their children. It is believed that the eggs, which form the
embryo, are affected and the damage will become obvious after the child reaches mature.
Use of mobile phone also leads people to have DNA damage. DNA is the important in
the living thing. If the DNA is damaged in the living thing it may change the cells and can
exposed to the diseases from outside. It is very bad thing to the living thing because it can
distract their live and may lead to suffer in their life.
As we can see now in this world there are certain people live healthy and normal at a
young age but in old age they will face many problems in terms of health due to being
exposed to radiation resulting from the use of mobile phones. In addition, damage to DNA is
the primary mechanism causes the formation of tumors and cancer. When the amount of
damage to DNA exceeds the rate at which DNA can be repaired, this is the beginning of
cancer formation. DNA damage in brain cells can affect nerve function and also may lead to
neurodegenerative disease.
CONCLUSION
As discussed above, the mobile phone has positive and negative effects. Wise use will
facilitate and rush our business. While extreme consumption will cause health problems and
can be serious. For example, the uncontrolled use will make one forgets our responsibility
and could result in a serious social problem, especially among teenagers. As consumers we
should be wise to control its use so as not to cause any harmful to us. In addition, the law laid
down by the authorities should always be followed, particularly as the driver. When we're
driving the vehicle follow the proceedings of guidelines have been set. Apart from reducing
traffic accidents, it also can save many lives. As a parent, mobile phones belonging to
children should also be constantly monitored so that they do not abuse their facilities such as
web browsing and so unnecessary. This is so that the children are not engrossed with their
responsibilities as a student and can constrain them from being drawn into the social arena.
Just like European countries they have general laws that target driving “without due care and
attention”. For example, while hands-free mobile phones are not included within specific
mobile phone laws in the United Kingdom, their use – and that of a number of other potential
sources of distraction – can be addressed through law-making measures on careless driving.
We should be aware of all the things that happen around us and everything that happens
should be a useful lesson to ourselves.
