A quarter century ago our Tampa chapter merged with Pinellas County, and AAF Tampa Bay was born. (Of course there’s a lot more to the story that just that, but let’s save the history lesson for another day.) I’m so glad you joined us tonight to help us celebrate 25 years of extraordinary memories. The ones that come from the late nights, countless cups of coffee, client pitches, having to make the logo bigger and just one more revision. At the end of the day, we’re here to honor each other’s triumphs and celebrate everything that makes what we do worth it. Because, let’s face it, we love each and every second of it, and the small obstacles only inspire us to become greater today than we ever thought could be possible yesterday. And that’s what the American Advertising Awards represent. Not the award itself, but its meaning… the acknowledgment of a moment of greatness where we can step back and feel complete. It’s what we strive for as advertising and creative professionals, and the reason we can’t wait to get back at it day after day. We look forward to making it worth it every second of every day for the next 25 years.

SILVERMEDALAWARD

For over 25 years Barry Wallace has been a recognizable face in the advertising community. As one of Tampa’s most sought after creatives, Barry has walked the halls of many of the area’s top advertising agencies. Barry began his creative career at a very young age by sparking the imagination of young children while working as a performer at Disneyland. He went on to work as a Creative Director for Tully-Menard Advertising, The Lipphardt Agency, The Dutcher Group, Walker Brands, his own Barry Wallace Brand Design and now serves our industry as the Marketing Manager for JL Marine Systems, Inc. Creatively, Barry has garnered countless awards for his work both regionally and nationally. Tonight adding the 2015 Silver Medal award to his list of accolades. Barry epitomizes the Silver Medal award not only for his successful career, but also for his devotion to our community. As a leader in the American Advertising Federation, Barry has held many positions including President of AAF Tampa Bay. He now serves on the National Committee for the American Advertising Awards and is the incoming Governor of AAF District 4. Barry is an active member in his church and has helped a number of Tampa Bay’s non-profit organizations, tapping his experiences as a creative professional, a mentor, a father and a leader to help wherever and whenever possible.

ART NOVAKAfter ten years as an advertising professor at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design), Art Novak has recently returned to freelance copywriting. Prior to teaching, Novak was an award-winning creative director and copywriter. His commercials have won a One Show pencil and an Emmy, and his ads have been published in Communication Arts. With experience encompassing virtually all advertising media, he has produced work for such clients as 3M, Target, WIC, Kohler, Scotchgard, and Cargill. Besides working for major ad agencies in Chicago and Minneapolis, Novak wrote numerous video scripts, speeches, songs, and live presentations as Creative Director for Martin/Bastian, a Minneapolis-based firm specializing in corporate communications. He then ran a successful copywriting business, The Art of Copy. At SCAD, he served as adviser to three American Advertising Federation (AAF) District-winning National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) teams, was named Educator of the Year in District 7, and received a fellowship for which he wrote and published a novel, Doglegs.

KRIS SOLBERGKris joined Ad 2 while he was a student at University of South Florida and immediately became involved in the education committee and mentorship program. He later took a leadership role as co-Public Service Director, managing the organization’s pro bono advertising campaign for a local non-profit, which ultimately won the 2011 National Ad 2 Public Service Competition. As president for the 2014-15 year, the chapter earned District and National Club of the Year, the National Ad 2 Public Service Competition, and he was recognized as Ad 2 President of the Year. He currently serves on the National Ad 2 board of directors as Treasurer and is a mentor to Ad 2 Orlando. Kris is Account Director at Social Forces in Tampa.
