EQAM functions migrated to CCAP in DS-only mode
Non-Routing Mode of OperationObjectives
CCAP supports routing mode, non-routing mode, or both.• Non-routing mode makes the
following protocols optional:• RIP V2 (RFC 2453)• IS-IS (RFC 5303 and
RFC 5120)• OSPFv2 (RFC 2328 and
RFC 5709)• BGPv4 (RFC 4724 and
RFC 4760)• PIM-SM (RFC 4601)
• The above routing protocols are handled by the HE router
• A CCAP operating in non-routing mode is L3 aware and IP manageable
• A CCAP operating in routing mode includes L3 forwarding functions
Benefits• Takes advantage of existing HE
router capabilities, which provides an extended set of routing features when compared to CCAP/CMTS
• Simplifies the development path for CCAP, bringing the CCAP to market quicker and encouraging new entrants
• Does not impact the CCAP headend architecture in cases where an HE router already exists
• Allows operators the choice to: a. use existing HE routers for IP forwarding functions, or b. to keep the CCAP in routing mode when the HE router does not have as robust a feature set.
