Get creative and build with Lego! Students can work on

their own creations or build as a team. Lego is provided–

CrossFit Kids

Grades 6-9

Specifically designed for youth, this strength and condi-

tioning program helps participants develop a lifelong

love of fitness. Classes will focus on FUN while encom-

passing all ten general physical skills (strength, balance,

coordination, flexibility, stamina, speed, agility, power,

cardiovascular endurance and accuracy) .

Table Tennis

Grades 6-9

Join the table tennis club and hone your skills while play-

Chess Club

Grades K-6

Learn to play Chess or upgrade your skills by playing with

friends in a fun and supportive setting. All levels welcome.

Art Exploration Grades 4-6

Over 6 consecutive weeks students will explore interme-

diate and advanced art techniques using a variety of art

media including paint, collage, recycled materials and

found objects.

Art with Ms. McKay Grades 1-4

In this 6 week class, students will participate in a variety of

art activities using different artistic mediums. Some pro-

jects will be similar to Ms.McKay's classroom activities.

Forest Stories Theatre Grades 2-4

Explore myths, legends & stories about the forest, na-

ture and creatures who dwell there. Participants will

explore improv and theatre games, symbolism and story

development, performance (voice and movement) skills

and the development of a short play shared in 2 perfor-

mances on March 13. Students are expected to commit

to all classes and the final performance (unless ill).

Learn about the history of Cumberland through crafts,

CCSS Youth Centre

A safe space for youth to hang out

The Drop-in Centre is located in the Annex Building within the Cumberland Community School campus and is open

to youth in grades 6-9. Two qualified staff are on site during opening hours to provide facilitation and supervision.

Annual Memberships are $10 each and include unlimited drop-in visits and all activities and events. Movie nights,

art projects, karaoke and more! Youth wishing to attend the Youth Centre are required to complete the Youth Mem-

bership Application form (available on our website and at the Youth Centre). The form must also be signed by a

parent/guardian.

COMMUNITY BINGO

Every Wednesday at the Cumberland Legion, 2770 Dun-smuir Avenue. Doors open 6:15 PM, first game at 6:45 PM, second half at 8:15. Come anytime– stay for a little or the whole night! Net proceeds support CCSS lunch program, after-school

programming and youth centre.

WINTER 2019 COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

RED CROSS BABYSITTING COURSE Ages 11-15

Learn how to care for younger children in a variety of age groups, and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. Instructor: Baird’s First Aid Services When: Saturday January 12, 9 AM– 4:30 PM Where: Beaufort Multipurpose Room, CCS Cost: $60/participant

MAMACENTRIC A weekly meeting place for mothers with newborn to tod-dler aged children. Sessions include guest speakers, facili-tated discussion and a chance to visit with other moms. Tea & snacks provided. Facilitator: Serena Oliveira When: Tuesdays 3:30– 5 PM January 15– March 12 Where: StrongStart Room at Cumberland School Cost: A free, drop-in program. Fresh baking donated each week by Tarbell’s Deli.

PAINT NIGHTS Beginner friendly painting classes! Instructor will provide all the materials and guide participants through each step of the project. Instructor: Sam McKay Paint Night # 1: Thursday January 17, 6-9 PM. Choose between a rendition of either Vancouver Island or a Salmon with a West Coast background on wood. Paint Night # 2: Thursday February 21, 6-9 PM. Partici-pants will paint a deer with a West Coast background on wood. Where: Art Room at Cumberland Community School Cost: $40/1 night

BINGO helpers - Help with concession, cash and handing out BINGO cards. Wednesdays 6:30- 10 PM.

BINGO caller - Wednesdays 6:30- 10 PM. Volunteers don’t have to commit to every week.

After-School Programs - Facilitate or help with a variety of after-school programs. Monday- Thursday 2:45–

3:45 PM.

Mountain Bike Ride Leaders - Thursdays 2:45– 5 PM. April to June. Must have knowledge of local trail network.

First Aid Certification is an asset.

Kitchen Help - Volunteer in the kitchen with our Healthy Food Program. Monday- Thursday, various time

slots. January to June.

Thunderballs 2019– Our 6th Annual Thunderballs event is a major fundraiser for CCSS, featuring 4,000 golf balls rolling down Dunsmuir Avenue in an exciting race with lots of fantastic prizes to be won. The date is set for Monday May 20. We are looking for volunteers to help with the following tasks: Soliciting prizes– Work with Events Coordinator to help solicit donations from local businesses, Selling tickets (the month leading up to the event), Directing traffic the morning of the trial (date TBD) and the morning of the event (May 21), Help with assembling, transporting and setting up the Thunderballs ramp and track. Reel Youth Film Festival, Saturday March 2nd– This festival screens short films made by young people under 20, including local content. A fundraiser for the Youth Centre. Volunteers needed to help with set up, concession and clean up.
