Why many people don’t bother to vote in the elections? Are the rulers of to-day working for the benefit of people? Is the population satisfied with government institutions? But also, living in a democratic country gives citizens a reason to forget about their rights and duties? In the last elections that have been conducted in across the world, but especially here in the Dominican Republic, it has been noticed that many people don’t bother to vote for any particular candidate  and prefer to stay at their h ome on the elections’ day. Below are presented some of the causes that make voters not to attend to the polls. The main one of them is just because the government doesn’t care about the citizens’ needs, so they feel disappointed. Also because of the corruption that exist in almost every governmental institution. Politicians take for themselves all the money that is supposed to be directed, in some way, to the citizens. Another likeable reason could be, because there are certain people that don’t sympathize or are not attached with any specific political party. In contrast, a big part of the population prefer to wait until someone related to the political campaign give them money for going to vote, particularly here in the DR. Although it’s a duty of every citizen, there are a lot of people out there that don’t like politics, so they don’t necessarily have to be identified with a political party. Maybe for them is the same which president, senator, or deputy result elected. If they are rich, they wouldn’t have problems with that because they can sustain by themselves, economically talking, and if they are poor, probably they are tired of the promises that all politicians do and not meet, so they don’t bother to go out and vote. Furthermore, many people think their vote is not going to make the difference and doesn’t count for much. Despite of all of this, we all know that voting is a right and duty of every human, so even though some people are not in the mood to vote, one thing they should do is, at least, leave the ballot of candidates in blank and expressed their disagreement by this way, instead of staying silent. According to the reactions of the people when they are interviewed in the days surrounding the elections, and at any time during the period of government, the main cause of why people don’t care to vote in the elections is because the government forgets of all the basic needs of communities. This results in disappointment and dissatisfaction, so they don’t feel motivated to vote for anyone. On the interviews, they expressed their unconformity because the government just cares about making great buildings, train stations, monuments , parks, and other things; but forgets to work for the poor and mos t needy which should be its principal goal. They also say that there’s a lot of corruption and all the people involved with the government become rich instantly because they rob the money of people and don’t do anything for them. The lack of voters will continue, until this situation disappears.

Why many people dont bother to vote in the elections?

Are the rulers of to-day working for the benefit of people? Is the population

satisfied with government institutions? But also, living in a democratic country gives

citizens a reason to forget about their rights and duties? In the last elections that have

been conducted in across the world, but especially here in the Dominican Republic, it has

been noticed that many people dont bother to vote for any particular candidate and

prefer to stay at their home on the elections day. Below are presented some of the

causes that make voters not to attend to the polls. The main one of them is just because

the government doesnt care about the citizens needs, so they feel disappointed. Also

because of the corruption that exist in almost every governmental institution. Politicians

take for themselves all the money that is supposed to be directed, in some way, to the

citizens. Another likeable reason could be, because there are certain people that dont

sympathize or are not attached with any specific political party. In contrast, a big part of

the population prefer to wait until someone related to the political campaign give them

money for going to vote, particularly here in the DR.

Although its a duty of every citizen, there are a lot of people out there that dont

like politics, so they dont necessarily have to be identified with a political party. Maybe

for them is the same which president, senator, or deputy result elected. If they are rich,

they wouldnt have problems with that because they can sustain by themselves,

economically talking, and if they are poor, probably they are tired of the promises that all

politicians do and not meet, so they dont bother to go out and vote. Furthermore, many

people think their vote is not going to make the difference and doesnt count for much.

Despite of all of this, we all know that voting is a right and duty of every human, so even

though some people are not in the mood to vote, one thing they should do is, at least,

leave the ballot of candidates in blank and expressed their disagreement by this way,

    instead of staying silent.

According to the reactions of the people when they are interviewed in the days

surrounding the elections, and at any time during the period of government, the main

cause of why people dont care to vote in the elections is because the government forgets

of all the basic needs of communities. This results in disappointment and dissatisfaction,

so they dont feel motivated to vote for anyone. On the interviews, they expressed their

unconformity because the government just cares about making great buildings, trainstations, monuments, parks, and other things; but forgets to work for the poor and most

needy which should be its principal goal. They also say that theres a lot of corruption and

all the people involved with the government become rich instantly because they rob the

money of people and dont do anything for them. The lack of voters will continue, until

    this situation disappears.

Up to this point, there have been presented some of the main reasons why people

dont go to vote, all of them having the government as the guilty in the situation.

However, in the other hand we have, the citizens. Not all the blame of the absence of

many people in the polls has to do with the government, at least explicitly, because it is

involved in some way. There are some citizens, if they could be call that way, that stay at

their home because the only way they are going to vote is if anyone related to any

political party give to them the popular $500.00 pesos (here in the DR) to go out and vote,

which is something thats not well seen, but is a consequence of the horrible economic

situation many people is passing by, and that has to do, again, with the governments job.

All political parties spend a lot of money in this type of activity of buying votes, but

obviously it will not reach to the entire population, so there will be many who left without

voting at the end of the day. Thats why it can be considered as a cause of the topic that

has been presented in this essay.

In conclusion, the reasons why there are so many people who dont vote in the

elections are very clear and different from each other. Citizens are not voting as a result of

the poor job governments are doing to resolve their problems and because theyre tired

of hearing promises never fulfilled. The corruption is another fact in this situation that

influences the people not to vote. Also, there are individuals that leave the elections day

without voting, waiting for someone coming to convince them buying their vote. This

should be a situation we should start giving the importance that it deserves. Voting is a

right and duty of every citizen, so we all are supposed to be present at the polls and

    exercise our right to vote.
