Please note that Requiem Masses may take the place of requested dates for Mass Intentions. (There are also a large number of Masses still to be said) Reflecting on the Gospel Unlike Mary, we don’t have a signal event such as the birth of a Saviour to set in motion our participation in and contemplation of God’s wonderful deeds of salvation. On this octave day of Christmas, then, we are perhaps being challenged to move beyond Bethlehem, a manger, and “glorifying and praising” shepherds to the quiet years of Mary’s life when she simply went about her duties as wife and mother, being faithful to God and contemplating the divine Presence in her heart. Most of Mary’s life was spent in quiet anonymity, as is probably true for most of us. When we wish each other “Happy New Year” as Christians, we are really wishing each other a grace‐filled year of responding to God’s revelation and a year of contemplating what we have seen and heard so that we can come to understand with more depth and insight. The challenge of this day, then, is that our “Happy New Year” be more than a passing greeting. It must also be a pledge to, like the shepherds and Mary, embrace in joy and peace God’s presence to us and in us. Actually our greeting each other this day might be “Happy Mother’s Day,” for Mary our Mother teaches us how to live the Gospel, how to be present to her divine Son, how to discern and obey God’s will for us. Happy Mother’s Day!
ow, and the results are very satisfying, and the work is very rewarding. We are open on esdays and Thursdays from 1000hrs to 1400hrs. We could do with a few more helpers to serve light refreshments and meals, so that not everyone has to attend every day. Also, of course, there are significant running costs to cover, so donations would be very welcome. One way to donate is to become a 'Friend of the Homeless', which involves a modest annual commitment. With the impending CTIC Winter Night Shelter Scheme, coming in to effect in a few weeks time, inflatable beds and sleeping bags will be needed, so any of those you may have, surplus to requirements, would be gratefully received. Many thanks to those who have helped us so far, and to those who are helping in various ways. For more information, contact Helena, in the Office, or Bernard or Judy on 258097"if you would like to make your donation by cheque, or if you wish to make a regular donation to the Fund by

Many thanks to you all. We have also received many unsolicited donations of cash, goods, and services, from many individuals, companies, and even other charities, which have been of enormous help. A huge thanks also to our dedicated team of volunteers, without whom we couldn’t operate. All very uplifting! There is however, a dark shadow on the horizon in respect of the lease tenure at 38, High Street, where we believe we will be asked to leave before not too long, due to redevelopment of the building. If anyone is aware of any other property suitable for us to transfer to, please let me know. For more information on LATH, please pick up a leaflet from the foyer.
