Profession of Faith: Nicene Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begot-ten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with

the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation, he came down from

heaven, (all bow) and by the Holy Spirit was incar-nate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For

our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on

the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right

hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the proph-ets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic

Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.

Amen.

Prayers of the Faithful

RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. Today’s readings invite us into prayer, into relationship with God. Because relationships feel more natural when we know one another well, Sirach encourages us to know God better. In his wisdom, Sirach tells us what God is like: fair, open-minded, compassionate, and attentive. “The Lord will not delay,” he says. Knowing that God’s help comes

right on time, whenever we need it, calms our hearts and helps us trust the Lord. In his second Letter to Timothy, Saint Paul demonstrates his own trust in God. Despite the grueling struggles Saint Paul has faced because of his Christian faith, he praises the Lord for rescuing him time and again. Today’s Gospel draws us close to Jesus too, revealing his special love for the poor and humble. As Jesus tells his parable about the prayer habits of a Pharisee and a tax collector, our hearts long to become as gentle as Christ’s.

Next Sunday is World Priest Day, or Priesthood Sunday. According to the USA Council of Serra International, there are fewer priests today, particularly if we subtract out retired priests. And yet Mass is celebrated, parish life is

attended to, and many Catholics would hardly know that there are significantly fewer priests. Why? The answer has to do with priests themselves. They have responded generously to the call to serve the People of God, often at great personal cost, and with limited acknowledgement or appreciation by the people they serve, whether bishops or parishioners. They continue to work to lift up and serve the People of God through the power of the sacraments and the joy of helping people connect with the sacred in their ordinary, everyday live.

Please join us immediately after the 8 am & 10:30 am Masses for coffee & fellowship in honor of Father Dennis and thank him for his steadfast service to the Priesthood these past 25 years!

FIRST FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1, Masses for Solemnity of All Saints, a Holy Day of Obligation

On First Saturday, November 2nd, after the 12 noon Mass, the Parish will hold the Annual Visit to Our Lady of the Lake’s Cemetery in honor of All Souls Day. This is a special day the Church sets aside for the faithful to visit a cemetery and to

remember the Faithful Departed. Your deceased loved ones and friends need not be buried in the Parish Cemetery to come and remember them.

Throughout the month of November, the Parish will offer prayers and Masses for all the Faithful Departed. Envelopes can be found in your OSV Envelope

Sets or special envelopes marked “All Souls Day” can be found in the Vollkommer Bell Tower. Parishioners can use them to include the names of their deceased relatives and friends. Once completed, place in the Collection Basket. These envelopes will stay on the altar for the month of November.

50 Turkeys are needed for the Thanksgiving Day Dinner at the HUB, Chapin’s Interfaith Community Center. Please see Sign-up Sheets on the Podium in the Narthex. Thank you and God Bless! Any questions see or call Deacon Malcolm, 803.345.2250.

Lighthouse Catholic Ministry Break the Silence

Depression … self-hurting … suicide. Do we speak in hushed tones or deny family struggles in an attempt to protect our young people from troubling topics? It’s time to tackle the tough conversations. Suicide is the second-leading cause of death for youth and young adults. Yet despite

the many TV shows, movies, and articles on this topic, suicide, depression, self-harm, and loneliness remain difficult subjects for adults of any age to discuss. Speaking with honesty, humor, and personal experience, Noelle Garcia tackles these issues head-on, encouraging those who are struggling (or know someone who is) that God's mercy and love are waiting for them; that you, and your life, truly matter. Noelle Garcia is a musician and speaker who has been featured at the National Catholic Youth Conference and other Catholic conferences. In this CD, Noelle speaks to the younger generation. But if a culture shift is to happen, it will take all those who care for youth working together, talking together, listening together.

"Is anyone among you sick? They should summon the presbyters of the church, to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick

person and the Lord will raise them up. If they have committed any sins, they will be forgiven." (James 5:14)

In the sacrament we pray that the sick be healed in body, in mind and in spirit. The mission of the Church is to do what Jesus did. Healing was essential to the mission of the disciples. If you are experiencing the effects of illness, advanced age, preparing for surgery and seek the healing power of the sacrament you are encouraged to ask Father Dennis to celebrate the Anointing of the Sick with you. You or a family member can contact the parish office at 803.345.3962 or call Father’s cell phone at 843.834.5447.

The Adoration Chapel is available for adoration of the Blessed Sacrament 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with the use of a code to enter the Chapel. The code is available through the Parish Office. Please make sure you refer to the Adoration Chapel Etiquette posted in the Chapel, on the Parish’s Facebook Page and on the Parish’s

website. Become a partner in our parish goal of year round Perpetual Adoration of Our Lord. Visit our Parish website at www.ollchapin.org and click on “Adoration PRO” at the top of the page. Questions, contact Administrator, Mike Weinzapfel at [email protected].
