Catalyst #10 November 7, 2014 College Freshman Friday: Time Management/ Priorities

As a class, we will read the article “Eliminate these 7 things from your daily routine.”

1. Has someone ever done this to you before? What was your reaction/or how do think you would feel?

2. According to the author, why is it important to NOT multitask?

3. A: Who is one person that DOES make a difference in your life? How could you pay him or her more attention? B: Who is one person (that you focus on, but) who does NOT make a difference in your life? How can you focus less on him or her?

4. The actions described in number 4 would fit in to which quadrant in the four quadrants chart?

5. What is one past mistake (yours or someone else’s) that you could make in to an opportunity to learn something?

6. What point is the author making in #6?

7. What was one time where you talked to someone about someone else? Was the person you spoke to directly part of the problem or the solution?

8. Out of these 7 suggestions, what is one that you will commit to trying in the next week? Why are you selecting it?

Question of the week: What would be your perfect day?

Imagine that money and location do not matter. You do, however, have only 24 hours.

1. How would your day begin? What would you do first, where would you be and with whom?

2. What would the middle of your day include? What would you do, where would you be and with whom?

3. How would your day end? What would you do last, where would you be and with whom?

4. Look back at your responses. What do they say about you and what you value/care about?

5. Have you already been able to do some of the things you listed? Why or why not?

6. Would you rather have unlimited time, unlimited money or unlimited good health? Explain your answer.

Please also take a moment to complete my one-question survey!

2. If y=kx, which of the following is equal to ky?

A. y/x B. x/y C. kx2 D. ky2 E. k2x

3. SAT QUESTION OF THE DAY:

A geologist has 10 rocks of equal weight. If 6 rocks and a 10-ounce weight balances on a scale with 4 rocks and a 22-ounce weight, what is the weight, in ounces, of each rock?

A. 4 B. 5 C. 6 D. 7 E. 8

Hint: If you make x equal to the weight of one rock, then the weight of 6 rocks and a 10-ounce weight can be written as 6x + 10, and the weight of 4 rocks and a 22-ounce weight can be written as 4x + 22. Since the two sides of the scale balance, these equations are equal to one another.
