From the Principals Desk

Where has the time gone? As I am sure you are all fully aware that this week is the final week of school for Term 2. I would like to congratulate the students for their committed hard work and effort that they put into school every day. Thank you to the staff, both administration and teaching, of Castlereagh Public School who demonstrate passion for our school and are always looking for opportunities to enhance the learning of all students who attend. Finally I would like to acknowledge the fantastic support that we have from all parents, community members and school P&C. Thank you all for welcoming me into your school it has been a delightful change and I look forward to getting to know everyone more over the coming terms. I wish all members of our team at Castlereagh Public School a very enjoyable, safe and happy end of Semester 1 break. School resumes for students on Tuesday 23rd July 2019.

Congratulations Georgie! Well done to Georgie Simmons of Year 6 who was awarded the ANZAC Schools Initiative Medal for Excellence by the Director and Treasurer of the Penrith Gaels Cultural and Sporting Club. This is an outstanding achievement for Georgie who exhibits outstanding aptitude in all forms of writing. We are extremely proud of Georgie’s achievements and look forward to reading more of her amazing works in the future.

SRC Pyjama and Movie Day This Friday 5th July our school SRC will be conducting a Pyjama and Movie Day. For a gold coin donation students will have the chance to wear their favourite pyjamas and watch a movie. Please note that all students must wear closed in shoes and warm outfits for the day. Small Schools Athletics Carnival The Small Schools Athletics Carnival will be held in Week 3 of Term 3. Notes and information for children who have been selected to participate and represent the Castlereagh Public School team have already been sent home. I would like to wish our team all the very best in advanced for what I am certain will be a fantastic community of schools event.

Stage 3 Camp The time is quickly approaching for the Stage 3 students who will be attending the Canberra Excursion. The dates of the excursion are Wednesday 21st – Friday 23rd August 2019. If you still have money, permission notes or medical consent forms outstanding could you please make the arrangements and get it to the office as soon as possible. It is essential with the organisation side of things for the school to have all paperwork returned and ready prior to the excursion. Thank you! Education Week Education Week 2019 is based around the theme ‘Every Student, Every Voice. We will be conducting our Education Week assembly and Open Day on Wednesday 7th August 2019. There will be an assembly commencing at 9.30am, open classrooms and a picnic morning tea. All parents, friends and community members are welcome to attend and participate in celebrating Public Education. Further information will be forwarded home during Week 1 of Term 3. Sporting Schools Australia - Tennis Next term we have secured a funding grant from Sporting Schools Australia where each class will participate in coaching with an instructor from Tennis Australia. We also receive equipment including nets and racquets as part of this program. We look forward to participating in this activity and I’m sure the students will learn a great deal. I wish you all a very happy and safe fortnight ahead. Kind Regards Christine Wren Principal

tally of the fruit eaten is kept as it is one of the activities the children can complete to obtain their Healthy Lifestyle Challenge, Healthy Badge.

Waste Free Wednesdays Every Wednesday is a waste free day at CPS. This means whatever food and drink wrappings/scraps that the children have that day must be taken home with their lunches, a class tally is kept of the number of children having ‘nude foods’! These are foods that have no wrapping but come in a reusable container.

Thank you for your continued support for these two programs. Ice Blocks Ice blocks will be sold Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at lunch time. They range from 60c to $2 in price.
