STANDARD CASING REPARATION EMERGENCY BACKOUT SUB™
In addition to the standard models, Dril-Quip also offers an Emergency Backout Sub for use in highly deviated wells where rotation of the casing is not possible. Deviated wells make the Rotation Free (or RF) Emergency Backout Sub an excellent choice because it can withstand the high tension and compression loads experienced in deviated holes. The field-proven RF Emergency Backout Sub and the RF Tie-back Tool are available in a variety of casing sizes. Contact your Dril-Quip representative for more information.

ROTATION-FREE CASING REPARATION EMERGENCY BACKOUT SUB
Dril-Quip’s Casing Reparation System is an equipment solution for production wells that have developed holes or leaks in the production casing string. If the casing can be disconnected below the damaged area and retrieved, an Emergency Backout Sub can be run and made up to the casing string. There are two types of Casing Reparation Systems; the standard and the “RF” type. The standard Casing Reparation System is a cost-effective choice for repairs occurring in vertical and shallow wells, while the RF type is a better choice

The Emergency Backout Sub is shear-pinned to the running tool and torqued up via torque slots. The running tool aligns the Emergency Backout Sub with the casing and wash ports before contacting the threads.

USING THE STANDARD AND RF
in deep or deviated wells. This is because the RF Tie-Back Tool does not require casing rotation to make up; an inner sleeve that rotates independently of the Tie-Back Tool makes up to the Emergency Backout Sub. When landed, simple weight set engages the RF Tie-Back Tool to the Backout Sub. Drill pipe is run and makes up to the Torque and Test Tool with right-hand rotation. Additional right-hand rotation torques the Tie-Back Tool to the Backout Sub and energizes a metal-to-metal seal.
The weight of the Tie-Back Tool engages its Adjustment Sleeve to the starting position in the Backout Sub.

CASING REPARATION SYSTEMS
Casing strings frequently get stuck when casing is run into deviated holes or in areas of problem formations (steps 1 and 2). The Emergency Backout Sub solves this problem easily. The casing above the Emergency Backout Sub can be disconnected and retrieved with right-hand rotation (STEP 3).

The Adjustment Sub solves costly stuck casing problems that occur in floating, bottom-supported or land drilling operations. Using the Adjustment Sub in conjunction with the Dril-Quip Emergency Backout System makes cutting and patching stuck casing a thing of the past.
The threaded section of the adjustment sleeve is designed to transmit the load in shear, rather than tension, resulting in high load-carrying capacity. Torque requirements are reduced because the adjustment sleeve thread is not subjected to tension loads during setting operations.

Prior to the introduction of the Dril-Quip Adjustment Sub, mandrel-type hangers could not be used with mud-line suspension systems.
