1 POS MOBILE SALE RETOOLING 1.1 Overview The client was going through a multi-year Point of Sale (POS) equipment retooling in stores across the country. 1.2 Purpose/Goal In addition to obvious POS equipment needed such as new registers, card scanners and printers, stores also needed iPhones and iPads to personalize the buying experience. 1.3 Methodology Used Customers and sales associates could use the mobile devices to browse, customize and even order exactly what they needed. They could also sign for purchases anywhere in the store. 1.4 Challenge The major equipment retooling followed a stand implementation project timeline and process. However, the mobile devices presented unique challenges, as they had to be setup enough before we sent them to stores, and even then often got corrupted, misconfigured, or broken. Yet, these mobile devices were a key selling tool and were required to be functioning even while most of the team was busy traveling and implementing the project. 1.5 Problem Solved I used my technical background to quickly understand requirements, master mobile device setup, troubleshoot, make enhancements and train customers. I coordinated with the staff at stores, even sending them replacements when we were not able to troubleshoot their devices remotely. 1.6 Resulting Benefit The project successfully met all requirements, even though I had to learn new technology, processes and simply jump in to figure things out when nobody else was around.
